fantastic. I have a wonderful, beautiful

that my family gets to live in a great

house that the church provides. We
Scott Cayton have lived in several parsonages (that's
church talk for "preacher's house") over
Jason Johnson the years and this one is at the top of
the list. Since the house was built in
Jeremiah Judkin 1975, there are beautiful, mature trees

sprinkler system to keep the grass
Dannielle Pope Needler green and a lawn service to keep it
short. The interior has been renovated
within the past few years and it is truly a
joy to live here.
Things have changed since 1975. In
those days there weren't too many
houses with more than one telephone,
much less more than one line. There
were only a few choices for television
channels (maybe five in this area). The
internet wasn't even a dream. Like I
said, things have changed.
When we moved in we arranged to
have the local cable provider hook up
service to the house. We wanted to
have a choice of channels and I wanted
to have a speedy internet connection.
The guy came out to the house and told
me that the house wasn't wired properly.
If we were going to keep up and move
ahead, he was going to have to run
some new lines. This involved a bit of
work and he spent several hours getting
the new lines run in place. This change

About a month ago I found out that

same) and provide a few more channels
and an internet connection that was six
times faster. I had to have that. I called
and scheduled them to come out.
Last Friday the gentleman from AT&T
showed up at the house. After just a few
minutes he said there was a problem.
The old phone lines weren't set up for
the new service. The house needed new
phone lines. I was disappointed and
nearly told him to just forget it. Afterall, I
had been doing just fine with the old
system. I probably didn't really need the
new speed anyway. But in the end I told
him to schedule the guy as soon as
possible so I could reap the benefits of
the new system.
The lineman showed up the next day
and today I am sitting in my house
writing this column waiting for the tech
to come and complete the installation. In
a little while I will be able to put the
frustration of the process behind me and
enjoy the benefits the new system
brings.
For the first 30 years this house stood,
there wasn't much change and that was
fine. But there was a shift in how things
worked and changed needed to be
made to adjust with the times. The
house is still the same wonderful house
it always has been. Only now new
things can happen here. I think our
church is going through the same kind
of things right now. For many years we
have been able to do just fine without
many changes, but right now we are
changing some things so that we can
reap the rewards that come with being
current with the people around us. We
are still the same church, friendly, warm,
hospitable, and faithful to God's word.
But with the changes (name tags,
communication cards, feedback
surveys, etc.) we are seeing what is
possible in God's house.
