SECTION 5 SURVEY, PROFILE AND GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATIONS

5.1

Preliminary Survey

The Engineer has done the route survey for the line during the planning stage of the project. Owner/Engineer has already taken steps to obtain initial route approval from various Ministries/Depatiments/Local bodies . The route maps are attached with this document under Volume 3. Obtaining final approval for the line route shall be the complete responsibility of the Contractor.

5.2

Detailed Survey

The overhead line works associated with this project essentially consist in installing double circuit towers along the corridor earmarked from SFZ substation to the proposed Awqad substation. There will also be two 132 kV under ground cable sections for the approach to the substations. Owner/Engineer has carried out initial surveys and obtained preliminary approvals for the OHL corridor for the above work. The Contractor shall carry out detailed survey, confirm feasibility of the route, develop the drawings and shall obtain the final approval from all the Government departments and other agencies before taking up the execution work. The Contractor shall carry out profile survey for the entire route of the OHL and cable feeders. The profile survey and profile plotting shall be as specified in Clause 6.5 of OES 32. For the profile survey along the cable route, refer Section 7 of Volume 2. The data collected through the profile survey shall be used for preparing the profile drawing for the overhead line and the cable feeder. This drawing shall be the basis for ensuring that there will be adequate ground clearance for the OHL proposed to be constructed and also for the selection of towers for supporting the conductors. Profile drawing for the cable feeders shall identify all buried obstacles and shall include proposals for crossing over the obstacles.

5.3

Tree Clearance Survey

The Contractor shall carryout survey and mark trees that are to be trimmed or removed to facilitate construction of line and submit the results of findings to the Owner/Engineer. Removal of trees should be avoided as far as possible, and shall be undertaken only with the permission of the Government departments and/or landowners concerned. Cost of survey and trimming/removing trees shall be deemed to be included in the Contract Price, including reinstatement of trees, if any required.

5.4.1

Geotechnical Investigations
General

Geotechnical investigation shall be undertaken in accordance with the technical requirements detailed in the following clauses. Level 2 investigations shall be done at all new tower locations. In addition, soil resistivity measurements shall be made at all new tower locations. All investigations shall be carried out by an approved independent agency and shall be in accordance with the requirements ofBS 5930. The Contractor shall give the Owner/Engineer the requisite period of notice prior to commencing the geotechnical investigation. This is a Notification Point
