Foundations for tower body and leg extensions shall be the same design and where appropriate utilise the same type of foundation fonners as a foundation for the corresponding standard height tower.

6.2
6.2.1

Design
General

Foundations shall be designed for the ultimate applied loadings imposed by the appropriate maximum simultaneous system loading condition on the tower increased by the strength factor defined in Appendix 6A2. Where appropriate, serviceability limit states shall be also be considered. The geotechnical design of the foundation shall be based on accepted codes of practice, the relevant literature or methods which have been used with satisfactory practical experience by the Contractor, and agreed by the Owner/Engineer. All foundations shall be designed to withstand uplift, settlement and overturning (as appropriate) when subjected to the applied system loading. Allowances shall be made in the foundation design for hydrostatic pressure where this may occur and the effects of seasonal rains, drying out, cyclic loading, wind induced vibration of support tnembers and scour. The Contractor shall use excavated material for backfilling, if the geotechnical investigations indicate that excavated material is suitable for backfilling. 6.2.2 Geotechnical Parameters

The assumed geotechnical parameters for the design of the foundations are specified in Appendix 6A3. 6.2.3 Foundation Structural Design Parameters

Foundation structural design parameters for concrete shall be based upon the recommendations of BS 8110, except where as otherwise defined in this Specification. 6.2.4 Stubs

Stubs for support body and leg extensions shall be of the same design as that for a standard height support. Only one design of stub shall be permitted for each type of support, and shall not be bent or cranked. The size of the stub legs shall not be less than the corresponding support leg member.
In addition to stubs of nOlmal length, short stubs may be used, provided that provision is made for the attachment of bolted cleats.

Cleats shall be capable of transferring 100 percent of the design uplift load and 50 percent of the design compression load. 6.2.5 Concrete Chimneys

Reinforced concrete chimneys shall be designed to withstand the maximum resultant horizontal residual sheer component, with due allowance given where appropriate to resultant lateral (passive) earth pressure of the backfill (assumed to increase linearly with depth). No allowance shall be made for the nominal strength of concrete in tension and the stub shall not be considered as providing any part of the tensile area of reinforcing steelwork.
