Section A [45 marks]
Answer all questions in this section.

1. Mr. Lim plans to accumulate RM100 000 in 40 years. He deposits RM x at the end of
each year from the first year to the 10
th
year, makes no deposits from the 11
th
year to the
20
th
year and deposits RM300 from the 21
st
year to the 40
th
year. Given the interest rate
is 8% compounded annually.
(a) Calculate the balance, in terms of x,
(i) after 10 years, [1 mark]
(ii) after 20 years, [1 mark]
(iii) after 40 years. [2 marks]
(b) Hence, determine the value of x. [2 marks]

2. The demand equation for a product is

=
p
q ,
and the supply equation is 1 = p q , where q is number of units and p is price, RM per unit.
(a) Find the equilibrium price and the equilibrium quantity. [5 marks]
(b) Sketch the demand curve and the supply curve on the same diagram, showing
clearly the equilibrium point. [3 marks]

(a) Draw an AOA network for the project. [3 marks]
(b) List all possible paths of the project and their corresponding total durations.
Hence, determine the critical path and the minimum time required to complete the project.
[4 marks]

5. The demand for a product is 600 units per week. The setup cost for placing an order to
replenish inventory is RM25. The unit cost of each item is RM3, and the inventory holding
cost is RM0.05 per item per week. Assuming shortages are not allowed.
(a) Determine the economic order quantity. [2 marks]
(b) Determine the number of orders to be placed per year. [2 marks]
(c) Calculate the total weekly cost. [4 marks]
