Concentrates on the duties of the manufacturers. Describes the Essential Healthy and Safety Requirements (EHSRs) for the products with regard to design, manufacturing process, testing, documentation and maintainability.

When does it come into force?

Compulsory from 1 July 2006. From 1 July 2006 any Ex or DIP equipment to be installed in hazardaous areas must be ATEX certified. From 1 July 2006 any existing Ex or DIP equipment must fulfil the minimum requirements.

The product (also Ex/DIP-motors driven by VSD) shall comply with following Harmonized Standards:

Solutions for motors with converter supply in practice

There are several options open to the end user. These include but are not limited to the following examples:

select ATEX certified motor & converter packages

the motor vendor will issue a Declaration of Conformity according to ATEX 95

buy a complete machine which is itself certified as work equipment

the machine vendor will issue a Declaration of Conformity according to its own ATEX 95 requirements (EN13463-1)
