There hasn’t been a peep about this in the major news outlets, but it’s done. With
the US no longer producing lead, all supplies will now have to come from China,
Australia or Peru, with the overwhelming emphasis on China.

China is the largest miner of lead and the largest importer of scrap lead in the
world. The highly progressive state of California recently passed a law that lead
ammo is banned for sporting use. There is an alternative, copper ammo, but it is
hugely expensive to make, and pure copper bullets are frequently labeled ‘cop
killers’ so they can’t be sold.

distracted with Obamacare and Iran nuclear negotiations, our Second Amendment

This has been going for years in the making CA made lead illegal as a primer for bullet

So Allen West copied and article about the last lead smelter in the US going out of
business. No one is questioning stated fact that the business did in fact close for what
ever reason. Bullet manufacturers use recycled lead and not primary lead. In order for
the lead to be recycled is has to come from somewhere, be used in production of a
lead product then be recycled. So where does this primary lead come from to go to
batteries and such. China? South America? These companies must buy it from
outside the USA at probably a higher cost which will ultimately cost bullet
manufacturers more in the long run.

Also, the notion that the US, if somehow involved in a large-scale
conflagration requiring billions of bullets and somehow cutoff from all its
suppliers, wouldn't be able to fire up a plant and process the raw lead
needed is laughable to say the least.

More likely, long before that would happen, the US will be involved in a
war that will have American soldiers killing foreigners with bullets made
of recycled lead bought from the enemy's own country!

If the price of ammo goes up, it's probably because Allen West didn't check his facts
before posting this (plagiarized) article, causing a panic among gun owners. Not only is
ammo manufactured from recycled batteries (smelted lead is too soft), but the EPA
4 of 5 has been trying to shut this particular plant down since 2003. So I guess this is all 12/2/13 1:52 AM
