Follow-up:

This Spelling & Phonics lesson pack contains four exercises on adding the
vowel suffix -ed. This pack of worksheets includes several exercises
designed to challenge students on their understanding of a skill.
Help students illustrate the concept of past tense by converting sentences
from present to past tense. Call on student volunteers to complete a task
such as jumping, walking, skipping, kicking, etc. Have the class help
create a sentence that describes the action in the present tense. After
several present tense sentences have been created, change one of them
to the past tense by adding the word 'yesterday' and the suffix 'ed.' Ask
students to describe the difference between the two sentences. Have
volunteers come up to the board and convert the other sentences to past
tense. (Kinesthetic, Visual, Auditory)

To extend this activity, divide students up into small groups and have each
group write an original short story in present tense. When the stories are
completed, each small group can trade with another group and convert
the story into past tense. Stories can be shared with the class.
