India is a big tropical country and is famous for its diverse climatic features. With 1.2 billion people and the worlds fourth-largest economy, Indias recent growth and development has been one of the most significant achievements of our times. Over the six and half decades since independence, the country has brought about a landmark agricultural revolution that has transformed the nation from chronic dependence on grain imports into a global agricultural powerhouse that is now a net exporter of food. Life expectancy has more than doubled, literacy rates have quadrupled, health conditions have improved, and a sizeable middle class has emerged. India is now home to globally recognized companies in pharmaceuticals and steel and information and space technologies, and a growing voice on the international stage that is more in keeping with its enormous size and potential. 3.) It is governed under the 1949 constitution (effective since Jan., 1950). The president of India, who is head of state, is elected for a five-year term by the elected members of the federal and state parliaments; there are no term limits. India is divided into 28 states and seven union territories. State governors are appointed by the president for five-year terms. States have either unicameral or bicameral parliaments and have jurisdiction over police and public order, agriculture, education, public health, and local government. The federal government has jurisdiction over any matter not specifically reserved for the states. In addition the president may intervene in state affairs during emergencies and may even suspend a state's government.

This article describes the main imports and exports for India. Indias main exports are petroleum products, gems and jewelry, and readymade garments. In the international commerce of the pre-industrial era, spices and textiles were the principal commodities. India in particular was known for the quality of its textiles, and for centuries was involved in a brisk trade with Far and Southeast Asia. European countries worked their way into this commercial nexus in the early sixteenth century. Also, the production that are talked about throughout this website talks about fabrics, dyes, printing, resist dyeing, and printing, kalamksti, which stands for pen worked, weaving, embroidery, and carpet weaving.

India's wholesale inflation accelerated more than anticipated in August as food and fuel prices rose, firming expectations that the central bank may again hold off cutting interest rates at its monetary policy review on Friday. Unfortunately it is also one of the poorest countries in the world. The main reason for this is the very large population that the country has. There has been strong growth in recent years as the government has made a concerted effort to improve the economic strength of the nation. There is however still a long way to go. There have certainly been areas of improvement but it has been very uneven. The result is a country in which there is a large high tech sector while at the same time a large percentage of the population is still engaged in traditional small scale farming. 13.) With a population of more than 1,027 million as accounted by the March 1, 2001 population census, India is a colorful canvas portraying a unique assimilation of ethnic groups displaying varied cultures and religions. In fact, this uniqueness in the ethnicity of the country is the factor that makes it different from other nations. Moreover, the vastness of India's nationalism, accounting to a plethora of cultural extravaganza, religions, etc. is the reason that the country is seen more as a seat for a major world civilization than a mere nation-state.
