Ever since humans have populated the Earth, the extinction rates within the past one hundred years have increased about 1,000 times than before. There are biodiversity elsewhere, but biologists and conservationists usually are biased toward a certain group of animals such as the mammals, birds, or fish. People are trying hard to find high-priority hotspots. Saving evolution is more important than saving endangered species and threatened hotspots, to some scientists. Death rates are slower than what was predicted in the past and many species that people thought were extinct came back from the grave 27,000 species were to be extinct in every decade, reported in a recent estimate. By looking at the natural extinction rate and comparing it to the current extinction rate, people can only figure out whether it have increased or not Only less than 4% of all species that once roam the Earth are fossilized (some researchers believe) Calculation of the lifespan of a species requires the median not the average. The current mammalian extinction rate is 17-377 times the background extinction rate which is a 36-78 fold increase. There is a list of species that were thought to be extinct in the IUCN o Only 60 out of the 87 mammal species were confirmed extinct o Only 33 out of the 92 freshwater fish were confirmed extinct It have been estimated that there are around 5-15 million species (excluding microorganisms) on Earth. About 1.8 million species have been discovered and named, but there is only little information about them. Evidence on animals extinction is difficult to find. Less area means less species because habitats, species, and populations are all proportional. About 1% of tropical forest are going through extinction yearly o 25,000 out of 10 million species will go through premature extinction Due to forty years of logging, 1 out of 200 species of birds are extinct in the United States, and 7 out of 60 species of birds are extinct in Puerto Rico. If the species are endemic to the area, then there is a possibility that it will become extinct more likely than one that have multiple habitats around the world. Deforestation = at a rate of less than 1% a year Mass extinction may be not present, but collapse is certain, believed by some biologists. Artificial selection have the potential of preserving and destroying species, when evolution does not work. People are still deciding whether they should select naturally or artificially. The death of some species are unavoidable.

Due to many human activities, extinction rates have increased by about 1,000 times before our existence. In the past, scientists estimated that many species would be extinct by the year of 2000, but they were proven to be wrong. Death rates for some of those species are slower than what was predicted and many that was said to be extinct have came back from the dead. And only less than 4% of all of the species that once roamed the Earth were fossilized according to some researchers beliefs. People have e stimated there are around 5-15 million species, excluding microorganisms on Earth, but only about 1.8 million species have been discovered and named. Unfortunately, there are not many information about some of those species, and about 1% of tropical forests ecosystems goes through extinction yearly. Endemic species are more prone to extinction than others. The extinction of some species are unavoidable, but that does not mean that humans can just cease conserving them. I believe that there is hope and if we put in effort in trying to protect something, most of the time we are going to end up with positive results. Before reading this article, I did not know that the extinction rates are going slower than what scientists in the past predicted it to be. I also did not know that evidence to support a species extinction is difficult to find. I did know that there are still many parts of this Earth that have not been touched by humans and there are many species that have not been discovered yet, but I was unaware that only less than 4% of the sum of species that was once alive on Earth were fossilized. That shows that humans are still lacking a lot of knowledge about this world, and there are still things waiting to be discovered.
