MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Die-Cut Set: DDC01 (optional).
Thin Card: Antique Gold and
Hammer Cream.
Cream Paper and Plain Paper.
Gold Thread: MDM325.
Thin Gold Cord.
Small Gold Padded Heart.
Costume Jewellery Centrepiece.
Tracing Paper and Pencil.
Scissors or Craft Knife.
Computer & Printer.
Sticky Fixers.
UHU All Purpose Adhesive.
Card Mount: JA07G-GO-46 Crm/Gold.
TO MAKE THE CARD:
This cream and gold set of discs and bells are
available to buy (DDC01) or you can make your own
as follows.
Trace the cream thread circle from the diagram
including the cut-out shapes and centre hole. On
a new area of tracing paper, trace the antique gold
scalloped disc. Retrace these onto the relevant
coloured card and cut out. Cut away the centre circle
and teardrop shapes from the cream disc. Trace the
bells and retrace onto cream for the smaller bell and
gold for the larger, make two of each.
I did all the wording on the computer and printed it
out, the font I used is Murphy Script Viva. If you dont
have this font on your computer any script style font
you like will work just as well. You will need a pro-
gram that allows you to type in a circle, there are lots
of greetings card packages available, if you have one
of these you may find it gives you the option to do
this. If not you can use a word processing program
such as Microsoft Word and Ill give you an idea of
how to do it using this software.
The menus and palettes may be in different places
depending on the version of Word you are using. First
you need to open an extra palette and a toolbar. On
the top toolbar, click on View, then on the drop down
list click on Formatting Palette. Click on View again
then on the drop down list go to Toolbars then go to
the side to bring up the expanded list and click on
WordArt. Both of these will now be ready to use.
On the Formatting Palette, under Add Object,
click the tab that says Text Shapes when you hover
over it. Its not really important which of the WordArt
styles you choose as you are going to change it any-
way so double click on the first WordArt image on
the palette (below the box with abc inside it). The
wording Your Text Here will appear on your page.
Double click on any of the letters of the new word-
ing (on the page) and an Edit WordArt text box will
appear. Change the size to 12pt and choose a nice
script font from the list (you can change this again
later if you need to). The text is already selected,
delete it and type Golden then 3 spaces 12 times
(dont forget the 3 spaces at the end) and click okay.
Dont worry about how it looks on the page.
Make sure the text shape on the page is still se-
lected (i.e. it has little square points around it), then
on the WordArt Palette click on the icon that says
WordArt Shape when you hover over it and choose
the first circle shape (with the middle unfilled) from
the selection offered. The text will now look a bit of
a mess in a flattened circle shape. Click on the lower
middle square point and drag it down, you will see
an oval line appear as you drag, keep dragging until
it looks like a perfect circle.

The circle wont be the right size, so click on the
lower left corner square point, hold down the shift
key (to keep the circle in shape) and drag upwards to
make it smaller or drag down for larger. You can also
at any time click on the WordArt and drag, to move it
to anywhere on the page. Use the rulers at the edge
of the document to roughly check the size (the aper-
ture size is 125mm), until you think it is about right.
On the Formatting Palette under Colours,
Weights and Fills, change the colour of the fill to a
dark red/brown and do the same with the line. If the
colour (fill and/or line) is too dark change the trans-
parency to a higher number to lighten it. If, now you
have the circle of words, you want to try other font
styles, simply double click on the wording and the
Edit WordArt box will re-appear. Print it out onto
plain paper and see if it fits nicely into the aperture.
Resize as necessary, print and check again. When
you are happy with the fit, print out onto cream paper.
If you dont have a computer, or its all too difficult
you can just trace and transfer the words from the
diagram or use a translucent cream coloured paper
and trace directly onto it. You can, at the same time,
mark a little dot where each gem fits to make placing
them easier later.
Cut the paper to fit behind the aperture and stick in
place on the back panel. Use sticky fixers behind the
aperture to add depth and fold the card closed. Glue
the gold deckled card into the centre of the aperture.
Tape the thread at the back of the cream panel
and bring it to the front through any one of the dips,
this is marked as 1 on the diagram, take the thread
across the front of the disc, going down at 10, take it
across the back and into 2 then across the front into
11. Continue around until all the dips have been used
twice and tape the thread onto the back.
Stick the disc in place in the centre of the aperture
using sticky fixers around the edge and a dab of glue
in the centre.
Glue the gold bells to the corner of the card and
stick a small gold padded heart to the top. Add the
cream bells over the gold using sticky fixers. Stick
silver gems into the gaps between each golden
using UHU black top glue. Add a centrepiece in the
same colour scheme, beads or gems are great for
this or a piece of old costume jewellery.
I typed a message using the same font and colour
as the original wording and printed it out. The size
will depend on what you want to say and how large
you type it. I also added an elasticated bow along
the fold and a printed insert to finish.
