I'm sure that most who buy less expensive brands--like new customers at the Shop for instance, know little about the value of the "innards" of the watch they are buying--they buy because they like a particular style. In my life, I have owned some expensive--at least for me--watches in the 4 figure category--and they were great watches. Today, they are in the sub-$500 range almost exclusively. I respect the expensive brands but have a lot more knowledge about what you can get for much less money.

The same type of guys that have a nice car, but can't tell you anything about the motor. __________________ It's time for a new watch!

Not everyone geeks out and micro-dissects this stuff like we do here (and the other watch forums). A large percentage of fans I think appreciate the view at 30,000 feet, so to speak. I think a lot of times thats the best

way to enjoy a hobby, zoom out a little and enjoy it for what it is. Lets look at it this way... How many of you know what country the Nickel molecules were mined from in your favorite 316L watch? Who do you prefer as a dial paint supplier DuPont or Sherwin Williams? Yes I have thought about these things... but my brain can only take so much, its just not worth it to care really (for me). __________________ WTB: Sottomarino MANTA GIGANTE, please PM me sale offers... thanks!! The car analogy was bound to come up in this thread. I have 3 friends who autocross. One drives a rotary-turbo RX7, another a highly modified Audi S4, and the last one an Acura NSX, which he totaled at Laguna Seca so he upgraded to an older gen Dinan M5. Anyways, one of the biggest problems being tuner-geeks in that hobby... is pre-conceptions about what your engine and tires are "supposed" to be doing in terms of HP/torque/RPM/boost, and grip. Sometimes its best to ignore what you "think" the car is supposed to be like... and just roll with it and how its responding on that day. So again... best to zoom out and just wing it. __________________ WTB: Sottomarino MANTA GIGANTE, please PM me sale offers... thanks!! The WatchBox Review Series

When I was younger I purchased expensive watches to impress my peers, not knowing anything about watches but the price tag. Youth IS wasted on the young. I now find that collecting affordable watches because the only person I need to impress is myself, is far more rewarding and has made me a better man. JMO

Could be he was in a different time zone than where he lives and was too lazy to set/reset his watch. His cell was his second time zone watch. I aggree though that with money comes the need to advertise that you have it. Of those of us here who would walk around with a $10,000 or $20,000 piece on your wrist without a concealed carry piece in your pocket? Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2 __________________

I don't want to comment about wealthy people who wear expensive watches they know very little about. I'm still trying to be one of them myself!

I have a pretty good idea how a computer works but I, like most people, know very little about the details of the pieces that are inside it. I bet most of us on here know the basics of how a watch works but could not identify many of the parts inside it if the movement was taken apart and shown to us piece by piece. __________________

Super Geek

When you have money to burn you make purchases to show your station in life. Your not looking for bargains or concerned with the actual industry. A $5 watch does the same thing a $500k watch does.
