1. (a) With necessary diagrams, briefly discuss about the camera optics.
(b) Draw the construction diagram of a Vidicon camera tube and explain its
working principle. [6+10]
2. (a) Sketch the composite video signal for at least 3 successive lines and indicate
i. Extreme white level
ii. Blanking level
iii. Pedestal height
iv. Sync pulse level.
(b) With a neat sketch, explain the necessity of pre and post equalization pulses.

3. (a) Draw camera outputs for VR , VG , VB for primary and complementary colors.
Why and how are the outputs normalized.
(b) Explain the significance of color difference signals. Write expressions for R-Y,
B-Y and G-Y in terms of R,G,B. [8+8]
5. (a) Draw block diagram of RF tuner and explain how incoming signals from dif-
ferent stations are translated to common PIF and SIF.
(b) What are the factors that influence the choice of IF in TV receivers. Explain
in brief. [8+8]
7. (a) Explain how Ident pulses are obtained and used to control phase and sequence
of color sub carrier in 1800 PAL-switch before feeding it to demodulator.
(b) Write short notes on color signal matrixing. [10+6]
8. (a) Draw the basic circuit of a sync separator employing transistor and explain
with suitable waveforms, how self biasing enables slicing - off of sync pulses.

1. (a) Justify the selection of 4:3 as the aspect ratio for TV system.
(b) Explain how the illusion of continuity is created in TV picture.
(c) What is interlaced scanning? Explain how it reduces both bandwidth and
flicker. [5+5+6]
2. (a) Explain why ion traps are used in picture tubes. With neat diagrams, discuss
about bent gun and diagonal cut tilted lens ion traps.
(b) Explain how the electron beam is focused using electrostatic focusing in a
pictures tube. [10+6]
3. (a) Sketch the diagram of additive color mixing and state Grassman’s law.
(b) With necessary diagrams, explain the encoding of color difference signals.

6. (a) Give schematic diagram of remote control infrared receiver and explain its
operation.
(b) Draw the block diagram of microcomputer controlled electronic channel selec-
