Why Education system in Canada is better than China Education system is a system that transmits the knowledge and

values operating within a given society. China and Canada have the different education systems. In fact, Canadian education system has many advantages over Chinese education system. Canadian education system has three advantages, schooling system, teaching style, and the curriculum.

First of all, the schooling system in Canada is better than Chinese schooling system. In China, schooling system is divided into three categories: basic education, higher education, and adult education. Basic education includes pre-school education, primary education and regular secondary education (Education system in China, 2004). Pre-school is suitable for little kids whose age are under 6. According to the Compulsory Education Law in China, each child has nine years of formal education; this is the primary education in China (Education system in China, 2004). It means that each child has to go to the elementary school and middle school. At the end of the primary education, there is an exam. If you pass the exam, you will have the access to accept the higher education. Regular secondary education is schools for skilled workers (Education system in China, 2004), such as vocational school and technical school. These schools are designed to training the workers. The second category is higher education. It includes colleges and university. The last category is adult education. It includes adult primary education, adult secondary education and adult higher education. Just as we see, Chinese schooling system is very complex. Sometime even a Chinese cannot figure out what kind of school it is. However, the Canadian schooling system is much better. In fact, each Canadian province has their own school system. However most of them are similar. Canadian schooling system has 4 stages: pre-school, elementary, secondary and postsecondary (The school system in Canada, n.d). These stages have their age limit, and each stage has two types: public funded schools and private schools. As we see, Canadian education system is clearer than Chinese school system. Actually, not only the school system,

but also the teaching style in Canada is better than China.

The Chinese teaching style is not as good as Canadian teaching style. One famous thing is that the school time in China is much longer than Canada. I am a Chinese. When I was a primary school student, I had to get up at 6:30, because the school in China starts at 7:30. Each day we have to study more than 8 hours. When we go back home, we didnt have time to play with friends, because we have much homework to do. However, things are different in Canada. Canadian students are much more easier than Chinese students (Canadian and Chinese classroom are different, Sep 1,2006). In Canada, teachers like to use different ways to teach, fore instance, role-playing, group work and so on (Canadian and Chinese classroom are different, Sep 1,2006). However, we never have such methods in our class. Most time in Chinese class, teachers like to read books and do a lot of exercise. In China, most teachers believe that practice makes perfect. In Canadian class, teachers like to give students handouts, but in Chinese class, teachers like to ask students to make a lot of notes. If you can write down all the teachers words, you will be considered as a good student, because it can prove that you concentrate on classes. There is another phenomenon in China that teachers like to give difficult questions in class. That is why many international Chinese students in Canada seem do better in math class than Canadian students, actually, Chinese only do better on difficult questions. In Canada, teachers prefer to give suitable questions to students. So students in Canada have less pressure than Chinese students (Canadian and Chinese classroom are different, Sep 1,2006). As the result, Canadian teaching style is better than Chinese teaching style. In fact, the curriculum in Canada is also better than China.

Chinese curriculum is not as good as Canadian curriculum. In China, we have to learn much the Communist Partys knowledge; even you are not a party member. In all the Chinese universities and collages, there is a cause called Essentials of Mao Zedong Thought. If you cannot pass this cause, you will not graduate from university

or collage. Things are different in Canada. When I come to Canada as an international student found that the curriculum here is different from China. In Canada, you can choose your major as you like, and according to your major you can choose your classes. You dont have to choose classes that force you accept some beliefs, even there are many christen here. As the result, the curriculum in Canada is fairer than China.

Above all, the education system in Canada is more advanced than China, especially in schooling system, teaching style and curriculum. However, China is still developing. These years China has take actions to make the education system in China better. I believe that Chinese education system can be as good as Canadian education one day.
