FRB-5A Relay Unit

The FRB-5A Relay Unit allows interconnection and operation of the FTV-1000 with the FT-1000MP (original version) or MARK-V FT-1000MP Field Transceivers. Besides this unit, you must also purchase the FP-29 AC Power Supply, available from your Yaesu dealer.

Operation
Operation is basically the same as when the FTV-1000 is operated with the MARK-V FT-1000MP. Please read the FTV-1000 oprerating manual for details regarding operation. The FP-29 AC power supply must be kept on while operating. When you turn the FP-29 AC power supply off, the PA Unit of the transceiver will be disabled automatically. Note: Some versions of the FT-1000MP (original version) have a TRV switch on the ALC Unit. Make sure that the TRV switch is set to the NORM position.

Installation & Connections

Referring to Figure 1 for the FT-1000MP (original version) or Figure 2 for the MARK-V FT-1000MP Field, remove the top cover from the transceiver. Referring to Figure 3 for the FT-1000MP (original version) or Figure 4 for the MARK-V FT-1000MP Field, disconnect the 6-pin connector from J6808 on the ALC Unit, then connect this 6-pin connector to J1001 on the Connection Unit. Connect the 6-pin connector from the Connection Unit to J6808 on the ALC Unit. In the FT-1000MP (original version), route the supplied (short) Connection Cable A through the heatsink slit from the rear panel side, then connect it to J1003 on the Connection Unit. Place this (short) connection cable onto the supplied sponge sheet, and then place this sponge sheet (w/Connection Cable A) into the slot of the heatsink to fix the cable in place (Figure 3). In the MARK-V FT-1000MP Field, remove the plastic plate from the rear panel, then insert the connector of the supplied (short) Connection Cable A, from the inside, into the exposed rear-panel cut-out. Connect the other end of Connection Cable A to J1003 on the Connection Unit (Figure 4). Mount the Connection Unit onto the chassis, using the supplied double-sided adhesive tape, then bundle the cables using the supplied Cable Ties. Replace the top cover and its nine screws. Referring to Figure 5 for the FT-1000MP (original version) or Figure 6 for the MARK-V FT-1000MP Field, Connect the supplied (long) Connection Cable B between the 2-pin connector of the (short) connection cable A and the DC POWER OUTPUT Jack on the FTV-1000. Connect other connection cables according to the illustration.
