Stationery
Description: A business card and a piece of letterhead representing the fake meat packaging company Texan Steaks. Process: I exclusively designed the business card in Adobe Illustrator. I created the logo by creating a triangle and resting a thick line on top of it. I created multiple anchor points in the thick line and used the selection tool to tweak them to create a horn look. The Mesquite Std Medium font fit my fake company perfectly. I found a good brown color to fit my logo to give a brown cow feeling to it. The curves within the business card and letterhead remind the audience of the curved brown spots on a cow. The letterhead has points in three of the four corners of the paper allowing the white space to be the main focus. The business card is aligned in a way that the T is seen first, points to the company name, and then the eye follows the curve to the contact information. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign Objectives: Use The basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Design consistent layouts for a letterhead. Apply typography rules keeping small copy. COMM130-02 Instructor: Julie Peterson

imaging
Description: This is an image taken of a plant which has been desaturated with the plant being colorized blue. Process: I desaturated the entire photo. I then used the magnetic lasso tool to select the plant and then applied a color filter to it. The image was a zoom in shot on a flower. I used a resolution to showcase the webbing around the flower. The blue is enhanced by the black and white background. Programs/Tools Used: Photoshop, Digital Camera Objectives Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. 6x6 resolution 150 Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Document needs to be 8.511 150 resolution. Margins: top 2, sides 1.25 and bottom 3 COMM130-02 Instructor: Julie Peterson

montage
Description: A montage of a dove cascading over the former New York cityscape heralding a message of peace. Process: I desaturated the buildings to make them less of a focus. I reduced the opacity of the dove by 50% to create a translucent effect to give the impression of the Holy Ghost. I placed the images in Photoshop and modified their resolution. I used the open sky of the first image to give my second image room. The cityscape in the background did not provide a good enough transparency so I used the blue sky as the main canvas. Programs/Tools Used: Photoshop, Google Images Objectives Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Apply appropriate typography. Choosing good quality images. Apply typography principles Unifying a piece with a consistent theme COMM130-02 Instructor: Julie Peterson

logos
Description: A selection of possible logos for an event planning company. Process: The top logo is simply a circle with a portion cut out and a line implemented to make it appear as a G. The heart inside was a little harder to create. I started with drawing it by hand with the brush tool. It took me a while to get right. I aligned the heart to be in the exact middle of the G. The middle logo is made to look like a heart made of letters and a shape. I modified the font of the G to look more slanted by using the direct selection tool so I could complete the heart shape. I made no changes to the P from the Calibri font. The G and P are reflecting the half-heart shape. The bottom logo uses the same heart as before with the name of the company in the heart of it. I changed the first two letters to a different color to emphasize the amor inside because amor means love in English. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator Objectives Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use only the tools of Illustrator. COMM130-02 Instructor: Julie Peterson

event ad
Description: An event ad to promote a charity event supporting the Senior Center. Process: I found my image of a crab in a book about Alabama. I decided to focus the theme of the ad to reflect the ocean. I used soft colors with whites, blues, and grays. The orange I used at the top of the page provided a nice contrast with the blue collected on the bottom of the page. I chose soft colors for the fonts so they would stand out on the colored background. Program(s) / Tools used: 1. Microsoft Word 2. Epson Scanner 3. PDF to JPG online converter Objectives Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word. web page
Description: This an image of a webpage used to show off a logo for a Texan Steak company. Process: To create the logo, I predominately used the shape tool in Adobe Illustrator. The Direct Select Tool in Adobe Illustrator allowed me to stretch and pull existing shapes. The curves of the logo were created by hand and through a process of trial-and-error. Once one horn was curved properly I then copied and reflected it and connected it to the original horn. I first made a triangle and then a rectangle. By adding anchor points to the rectangle I was able to curve the edges of the rectangle to create horns. Programs/Tools Used: TextWrangler, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator Objectives Size (300 500 pixels ) and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. flier
Description: This flier employs a professional looking font style to appeal to college students, especially those seeking employment. The image depicts professional looking adults who are young and eager to get down to business. The flier gives the impression of a business card. Process: I attempted to create an S formation for the entire flier. I wanted it to grab the attention of passers-by. This creates a flow for the eyes of the reader. I used bold lines to guide the readers eyes and to provide clarity for them as to what they need to read next. It all starts at the corner of the flier and is funneled into the corner of the bottom page. Program(s) / Tools used: InDesign, Gradient Swatch Tool Objectives Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. brochure
Description: This is s a brochure for my fake company, Texan Steaks. Process: I clipped the images in Photoshop and placed them in InDesign. I text wrapped the image of Texas and it the central focus of the inside of the brochure. All of the body copy revolves around it. I copy and pasted the design on the front of the brochure to the back. I separated the company logo into two parts which connect when the brochure is closed. The folding lines are provided in the image to the right for a reference Program(s) / Tools used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign Objectives Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs.
