PROCEDURE AND EXPERIMENTAL SETUP

3.1. SAFETY STEPS FOLLOWED DURING PRODUCTION

Ensuring that our biodiesel production is safe is vital to our health, our familys safety and even the finished product of our efforts. Below, we will find several sections out lining the production process the items we need to purchase and more. By producing our biodiesel in safe, effective manner, we will not only lower the risk associated with the fuel production but also be able to enjoy the benefits of our own fuels, lowered cost and independence. While the processor and other included equipment (hoses, pumps, heaters, etc) are also part of our safety equipment and need some specific items on hand to help protect our self from the corrosive, dangerous agents used to produce biodiesel. We should have:

3.1.1. Choose Location

The location that chosen for production is vital. Numerous videos on You Tube and around the internet show people making biodiesel right in there kitchen. While this is certainly possible, it is not advisable. The location should be: Out of the way. In a low traffic area. In a well ventilated area. Out of reach of childrens. Out of reach of pets. In a location that maintains a constant temperature. In most cases, a garage is the best place for production. Keep the door locked at all times to ensure that children cannot gain inadvertent access to our biodiesel. Remember, we are producing fuel; it is toxic if consumed by pets or children and can be lethal. If a garage is not

available, or ours is currently field with the accumulated debris of passing years, a storage building is a good option. This can be found white affordably and

Fossil fuels are one of the major sources of energy in the world today. Their popularity can be accounted to easy usability, availability and cost effectiveness. But the limited reserves of fossil fuels are a great concern owing to fast depletion of the reserves due to increase in worldwide demand. Fossil fuels are the major source of atmospheric pollution in todays world. So efforts are on to find alternative sources for this depleting energy source. Even though new technologies have come up which have made solar, wind or tidal energy sources easily usable but still they are not so popular due to problems in integration with existing technology and processes. So, efforts are being directed towards finding energy sources which are similar to the present day fuels so that they can be used as direct substitutes. Diesel fuel serves as a major source of energy, mainly in the transport sector. Fossil fuels are one of the major sources of energy in the world today. Diesel fuel serves as a major source of energy, mainly in the transport sector. Bio-diesel is replacement fuel that is manufactured from vegetable oils, recycled cooking oils and animal fats. Because plants produced oils from sunlight and air, and we can do so year after year on crop land, these oils are renewable. Animal fats are produced when the animal consumes plant oils and other fats and they are renewable.

As per ASTM, bio-diesel is chemical composed of mono alkyl ester as long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils and recycled cooking oils and animal fats. The bio-diesel thus obtained is designated at B100. Linseed oil, jathropa, sunflower oil, neem-oil are commonly used oil for production of bio-diesel.
