Unit 1: The Rules of Algebra This unit reviews combining like terms and solving equations !t is also the introduction to "ormal #ro#erties in Algebra $tudents start to look at "ormal #roo"s Unit 2:The Number Line and Signed Numbers The idea o" this unit is "or students to be able to classi"% numbers as real, rational, irrational, integer, whole, and natural $tudents will then be able to look at s#ecial relationshi# between these numbers, as well as #er"orm mathematical o#erations with them Unit 3: riting and Sol!ing "#uations The goal o" this unit is "or students to be able to solve advanced equations, including those with variables on both sides, multi-ste# equations, and equations which involve "ractions and decimals $tudents will also be able to translate word #roblems into mathematical equations and solve them &xam#les o" the t%#e o" #roblems that will be looked at are rate #roblems Unit $: or%ing &ith 'ne#ualities !n this unit students will describe, write, solve and gra#h inequalities $tudents will look at com#ound inequalities and "ind the intersection and union o" sets The% will also look at absolute value inequalities Unit (: Linear Gra)hing $tudents will look at the relationshi# between tables, gra#hs and equations The% will look at equations o" a line in slo#e-interce#t "orm, #oint-slo#e "orm, and standard "orm $tudents will be given one "orm o" an equation and be able to convert it to another "orm The% will also be able to come u# with an equation o" a line given an% two #oints on the line Unit *: Non+Linear Gra)hing This unit "ocuses on nonlinear relationshi#s and gra#hing including quadratic equations, inverse variations, cubic equations and absolute value equations $tudents will be able to "ind the gra#h or the equation when the% are given one o" the two Unit ,: S)ecial -ormulas $tudents will be able to use "ormulas such as the quadratic "ormula, '%thagorean Theorem, distance "ormula, and mid#oint "ormula The% will also be able to mani#ulate literal equations and solve "or an% given variable
