The CUPOLAdecon 5 is a multi-personnel Rapid Decontamination Shelter comprising a heavy-duty inatable frame and removable, disposable inner lining, which incorporates an integral sump tted with drain outlets in each corner. The inner lining has ve separate walkthrough sections, each of which can accommodate three-stage decontamination. The rst cubicle (Stage 1) is used for de-robing and, if required, initial showering involving induced additive or detergent, the centre cubicle (Stage 2) is where the main showering takes place, and the nal cubicle (Stage 3) is for re-robing. The rst stage cubicles can be tted with hand-held shower units which can be fed from separate Chemical Inducers to dose the water with detergent/additive at different concentrations and with different additives. The second stage cubicles can either be tted with high ow rate hand-held shower units or xed multinozzle showers for thorough rinse down ensuring the safe removal of all contaminants and decontamination agents. When the CUPOLAdecon 5 is not in use it is stored in a valise-type storage bag along with a hand pump, repair kit, guy lines, mallet and pegs. The unit is exceptionally stable even in strong blustery winds. The arch shape of the heavy-duty inatable frame is designed to deect wind and increase stability and therefore minimize the effect on the structure. In addition, the shelter can be anchored using the tted guy lines pegged to the ground or to xed structures. The frame is made from a tough, neoprene coated polyester material, and is tted with pressure relief valves to prevent over-pressurisation. The inner lining is removable for easy and safe disposal, and is made from a bright yellow uorescent coated polyester to ensure maximum internal light during the day and night (all lighting external). The CUPOLAdecon 5 can be accessed from both sides but is intended for the movement of casualties in one direction only. The entrance and exit sides are clearly marked for instant recognition and casualties are guided through each stage of the process with pictograms indicating the action to be taken and the direction of movement. Interchangeable pictogram signs are tted above each entrance which allows the operators to section off the decontamination units dependent on gender or for clearly marking which cubicles are being used for stretchered casualties. The shelter is tted with removable internal partitioning which separates the unit into ve sections, with three cubicles in each section. The rst and second cubicles can be tted with trigger operated hand-held showers incorporating multi-function spray heads which are suspended on 1.5 metres long exible hoses. These are connected by self-sealing auto shut-off valves to the external main water feed pipes which consist of 19mm() lay-at hose fed from 19mm() Geka quick couplings. Detergent can be added to the shower warm water supply for more effective decontamination using external Chemical Inducers tted in the supply line. The double chamber inducers have provision for the introduction of one or two water additives depending on the type contamination. They can be individually adjusted to deliver a concentration between 0.2% and 10% depending on the type of unit used and the selected inducer setting. The two inducer chambers can operate in parallel or series to offer a choice of congurations to suit the particular circumstances. Detergent may be introduced to the supply for the rst cubicle only or for both the rst and second cubicles in each section depending on circumstances. Alternatively, water feeding the shower in the second cubicle could have a different additive, such as saline solution.

Some or all of the internal partitions can be removed to reduce the number, but increase the size of cubicle, offering an exceptionally flexible arrangement to suit a wide range of likely scenarios. Two of the five sections, for example, could be designated for stretchered casualties and the internal partitions removed to create one large cubicle while the other three sections continue to offer 3 stage decontamination using separate cubicles. Stretchers can be supported and manoeuvred on an an optional free-standing fold-out Roller Bed that stretches the full length of the designated section. When not in use the hinged Roller Bed sections fold up for compact storage and easy handling. Alternatively, all internal partitions can be removed and the shelter, with entrance and exit openings closed, can provide communal protection against the weather. The integral nylon/butyl/nylon sumps are incorporated within the lining, one below the main showering areas (Stage 1 + Stage 2), and the other below the Stage 3 re-robing area. This is to ensure that no contaminated water is present in the clean drying and re-robing area. All used water is contained in the sump of Stage 1 + 2 and can be pumped out for safe testing and disposal from the 19mm() outlets fitted to each of the four corners. Plastic Floor Panels are laid over both the sumps to ensure users are not standing in the contaminated wash-off. For transportation and storage the Floor Panels can be stacked. In addition, Floor Matting can be laid over the panels for comfort and safety. This matting can be colour coded to avoid confusion during set-up. A 30cm(12) diameter ventilation tube, suspended from the roof lining, can be connected to a portable external Warm Air Heater/ Ventilation Fan. This heater/fan can be switched to fan only to increase air circulation in the summer months. Four weatherproof air vents are also fitted in the roof section for improved ventilation.
