Project

Title: Computerization of the Inward-Outward Section of an Institution

Type of software: Application programming software

Brief details: The Inward-Outward section of an organization manages the flow of and the
information about the letters coming into and going out of the organization. The letters are received
in the Inward section and, from there, are redirected to the person or department concerned.
Similarly, the letters to be sent outside the organization are first sent to the Outward section from
where they are sent to the respective addresses. Thus, this section acts as an interface between the
various departments of the organization and the outside world.
Presently, the Inward-Outward sections of many organizations are not computerized. The
operations there take place manually. There are two entry registers—one for the letters received and
the other for the letters to be sent. The main drawback of this manual system is its inability to rapidly
retrieve complex information, e.g. the number of letters a college received from the university during
a specific period. Retrieving such information is a tedious task if done manually. But, if this section is
computerized, we can retrieve the same information within seconds.
Mainly, in government offices, where hundreds of letters are sent and received every week,
an appropriate software to replicate the functioning of this section will definitely go a long way in
saving efforts, time, and, of course, paper. This project is one such software.
