OVERVIEW

about INCEIF
INCEIF is a university dedicated to Islamic finance. It was set up by Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia) in December 2005. It is the only university in the world that is wholly dedicated to postgraduate study in Islamic finance. The university was established as part of the Malaysian Governments initiatives to further strengthen the countrys position as an international Islamic finance centre. The flagship programme is the Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) which is a professional qualification aimed for practitioners in the Islamic financial services industry. The CIFP is fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and is an equivalent to a Masters degree. With full-time study, the programme can be completed in 18 months. In addition to the CIFP, INCEIF also offers Masters in Islamic Finance and PhD in Islamic Finance. The objective of all three programmes is to produce high calibre professionals for the global Islamic financial services industry.

academic PROGRAMMES
CIFP
The Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) programme is the most globally recognised entry qualification for the Islamic finance industry. To date the programme has attracted students from different backgrounds, different faiths and from over 70 different countries. The programme is aimed at producing high calibre professionals with the necessary technical skills and knowledge in Islamic finance, specifically in the areas of Islamic banking and Takaful. The programme delivers a holistic and comprehensive syllabus specifically driven by the industry. It combines both practical and theoretical aspects of Islamic finance, resulting in a holistic learning experience of exceptional quality. The CIFP programme is fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and is recognised as a Masters degree.

programme structure
There are three intakes per year for the CIFP programme; January, June and September. Part I, Building Knowledge Part I Papers: Shariah Aspects of Business & Finance Shariah Rules in Financial Transactions Islamic Economics Islamic Capital Market Wealth Planning and Management Reporting of Islamic Financial Transactions Deposit & Financing Operations of Islamic Banks Islamic Financial Institutions and Markets Part III, Articleship - Building Competency & Experience The final part is a 6-month articleship that provides students Islamic financial services industry. INCEIF provides assistance for students undertaking an articleship in Malaysia. Students with 5 years relevant experience can apply for exemption from the articleship. Those exempted from articleship must still complete a 5-7,000 word, Professional Practice Paper.

programme study
Study can be completed on campus or through online distance learning. On campus study allows networking and shared experiences through regular classes, tutorials, industry talks and study visits. The CIFP is also made available through online distance learning. Students are provided hardcopy manuals and softcopy materials at the start of each semester. Self-study is supported by the faculty through e-learning forums in the INCEIF Learning Management System.

programme fees
The on campus full-time programme cost is RM20,000. The online distance learning programme cost is as low as RM8,050 and rises to RM19,250. Fee variance is dependent upon optional tutorials and optional pre-exam seminars.

entry requirements
Applicants are required to have one of the following: Bachelors degree Diploma with 5 years relevant working experience A levels (or the equivalent qualifications) with 3 years relevant working experience and be over 35 years old Applicants are also required to be competent in English. Exceptions can be given to those whose medium of study at entry level is English. Otherwise they require one of the following: Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 550 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 6

learning management system (LMS)


Both on campus and online distance learning students have access to the LMS. The LMS provides a means for communication with faculty members. It is also a portal for assignment submission and it houses all course materials and articles.

MIF
MIF
The MIF in Islamic Finance programme offers in-depth knowledge in the key areas of Islamic economics, finance and Shariah in both theoretical and applied aspects. It provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the economic, financial and legal environment in which providers of Islamic financial services operate. The programme is designed for academics and practitioners who want to extend their knowledge as well as fast-track their career in Islamic finance. The MIF programme provides a strong foundation in the principles and practice of Islamic finance through the development of new concepts, perspective, skills and analytical tool. The MIF can only be studied on campus. The number of students accepted each semester is limited. Classes are held after office hours across Monday to Friday and/or on Saturday.

programme structure
There are two intakes per year for the MIF programme; January and September. The programme requires completion of all eleven core courses, a minimum of two elective courses, plus a project paper. The project paper can substituted with two additional elective cources. All courses must be completed on campus. Research Methodology in Economics and Finance is equivalent to 4 credit hours. All other courses are equivalent to 3 credit hours. The project paper is equivalent to 6 credit hours. The INCEIF campus is close to the city centre of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; one of the most vibrant Islamic financial markets in the world. The industry is supported by various government initiatives to further strengthen the countrys position as an international Islamic financial centre. On campus study allows students to network and share experiences with fellows INCEIF students. In addition to attending regular classes, students also interact with industry experts during regular industry talks. At these talks, established industry figures share their practical experiences and knowledge.

PhD IN ISLAMIC FINANCE

HIGHLIGHTS
PhD in Islamic Finance programme modules have been built with a flexibility that allows two forms of study. The PhD by Coursework and Dissertation is designed for candidates who will benefit from coursework before pursuing research in Islamic finance. The PhD by Research is designed for candidates with extensive industry experience.

There are two intakes per year for the PhD programme; January and September. PhD by Coursework and Dissertation requires completion of all nine core courses and four elective courses. PhD by Research requires completion of the seven core courses only. All courses must be completed on campus. Research Methodology in Economics & Finance is equivalent to 4 credit hours. on campus study
The PhD programme must taken on campus. The campus is close to the city centre allowing PhD students to benefit from a wide range of local courses and seminars. On campus students may also benefit from the strong relationship INCEIF has also has with Bank Negara Malaysia and many Islamic financial institutions. PhD students are encouraged, at an early stage in their programme, to participate in local and international workshops and conferences. Students are also offered the opportunity to gain teaching experience that is complementary to their research.
