There is little to no penetration of the solar rays into the room unit at 6am as sho#n in (igure 1.1.'.1. The solar rays are instead seen +ouncing off the roof overloo0ing the porch from the east to the #est. This is most li0ely due to the uni ue positioning of the house and the lac0 of openings on the east side as it is a terrace house.

*s the day approaches closer to sunset- at around %pm the solar rays can +e seen +etter illuminating the room unit in #arm light. This is helped #ith the t#o #indo#s and the slight recession +y the +edside that allo# light to penetrate and reflect into the room. )espite +eing later in the day- in can +e inferred that from the positioning of the house #hich is at the corner end of the ro# of terrace houses #ith less o+struction of the terrace units on the #est- it is more exposed to the solar rays from that direction instead of the east 1as sho#n in (igure 1.1.1.12.

1.1." Solar Radiation "olar radiation- #hich is the energy released +y the sun in all directions- on a +uilding is highly influenced +y the position of the +uilding and the sun at a given time. The intensity can thus +e reduced +y o+structions that prevent said radiation to stri0e on selected surfaces of a +uilding. The montly average of solar radiation in 9uala :umpur- Malaysia a recorded in "eptem+er is 7'3% ;h<m' #ith the solar hours at 11.&. This lends to the tropical climate that Malaysia en.oys year long #ith consistently damp and humid environments at medium to high temperatures.
