Tid Bits of Wisdom

From the Wonderful Word Publishers

DECEMBER 2013 VOL. 7 NO.12

1 Tim 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

This baby Jesus was born with a purpose, that purpose was to SAVE SINNERS! Paul said he was chief of sinners. If only we could see our sins as worse than everyone elses sins we could love sinners the way Paul did. He said he could wish himself accursed from God if it would mean all his people would be saved. There is just something about seeing yourself as the worst sinner that causes you not to judge others more harshly than you should. How can we celebrate the birth of Christ without celebrating the life of Christ. The world accepts baby Jesus, but it is the man Christ Jesus that they do not want to deal with. I dont know about you, but I want to celebrate the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. His coming brought us the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. No life has ever changed the world like the life of Jesus Christ. He is LIFE! What would it be like to live around a child who NEVER does wrong. Have you ever known people with misbehaved children? You hate to hear they are coming to your house. You put everything out of their reach and just pray their parents make them mind. Well, Jesus wasnt that way. Can you imagine just telling a child what to do and they do it without any resistance or teaching? Jesus made Mary and Joseph look like the perfect parents!

(Continued on page 2)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!

I have often wondered how God entrusted man with the precious Son of God! People who had never raised a child. That child would grow up and live a complete life without ever having sinned! That child would accomplish what the first Adam failed to do. This child was to be the second Adam and His life would be a perfect sacrifice for all of our sins.

(Continued from page 1)

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. KJV

Jesus lived a complete life by faith in the Heavenly Father. That life is freely given to all who will believe and receive it. Because of the life of Jesus we can all stand before a Holy God, perfect and acceptable. Jesus has brought us into a love relationship with the God of the universe. I am so thankful for the Godhead and for being birthed into the family of God. Daily I am reminded of how evil my fleshly life is when left to itself. My righteousness is as filthy rags! I would not have any hope of facing the Heavenly Father if Jesus had not given me His life. Daily I am reminded that the answers to life are not in my flesh. How many times do I take my last step and Jesus keeps giving me strength to take another? How many times do I find myself in a situation where there doesnt seem to be a door or a window and all of a sudden Jesus makes a way? Without Jesus we would never find the way to victory. Do you remember when you accepted Christ Jesus as your saviour and the burden of your sin was lifted from your heart? I have carried many burdens since then, but never have I had to worry about being acceptable to God since Jesus came into my heart. When I say happy birthday Jesus, I say it with a grateful heart. He did in His life what we could not do because of sin, and then willingly turned and gave His life to us, while we were yet sinners. He is an amazing savior. Why do we celebrate Jesus birthday? When our loved ones die we cease to celebrate their day of birth. We may remember their day of birth but we dont have celebrations after death. Why do we celebrate Jesus birth since He is not here? We celebrate because He still lives and is here in our hearts! What is the best gift we could give Jesus for His birthday celebration? The greatest gift we can give is our life. We can turn loose from the reigns of our lives and allow Jesus to work through us and touch the lives of other people that He loves and desires to reconcile to the Father, as He did for us. We use to sing a song that says, Let go and let God have His wonderful way. Let go and let God have His way. Your burdens will vanish, your night turn to day. Let go and let God have His way.

Can you image what would happen to this world if every Christian would turn loose and let the Lord Jesus Christ have His way in their lives. This dark world would become light again. Dont just say, Happy Birthday Jesus. Get up on your cross and die to self and turn that life over to the one who can be victorious. Quit trying to rescue yourself through your flesh. If you are born again, you have a savior. Let Him save your daily life!!! There is a song in the SoulStirring Songs & Hymns titled His Way With Thee. Read through it and think about your life. Have you let Him have His way with you? Thats the gift Jesus would love to receive for His birthday.
Would you live for Jesus, and be always pure and good? Would you walk with Him within the narrow road? Would you have Him bear your burden, carry all your load? Let Him have His way with thee. Would you have Him make you free, and follow at His call? Would you know the peace that comes by giving all? Would you have Him save you, so that you need never fail? Let Him have His way with thee. Would you in His kingdom find a place of constant rest? Would you prove Him true in providential test? Would you in His service labor always at your best? Let Him have His way with thee. His powr can make you what you ought to be; His blood can cleanse your heart and make you free; His love can fill your soul, and you will see Twas best for Him to have His way with thee. A-MEN.

Jesus ask the question, When I return will I find faith? Can we by faith let Jesus control our lives? Can we yield to Him our members for His righteousness? Do we allow the mind of Christ to work through our words and spirit? Do others see Jesus in us? We can say happy birthday all day, but to turn loose and let Jesus speak and work through our lives is the greatest way to say Thank you Jesus for the life you have given me! Too often we do lip service, but we do not practice what we say.

----Jerry Brewster

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE WORD OF GOD?

This is the month that we ask you to consider reading through your Bible in one year. Our church has a great percentage of members who read through their Bible each year. I believe that is why our people have such a warm loving spirit with each other and with our visitors. There is nothing that prepares you for the day like spending time in the Word of God. Many times I become frustrated that I cant keep my schedule as planned. Sometimes I read ahead (which is what I like to do), but sometimes emergencies take me away and I get behind what I think I should do. I could not tell you how many times I have read my chapters and they were exactly the verses I needed for that day. I think Im behind or ahead, but God has me right where He wants me. Once my Bible and a borrowed book were stolen out of our car. The book was signed by H. G. Spaffords daughter, the man who wrote It is Well With My Soul. I prayed and reminded the Lord how he redeemed the axe that was borrowed by the prophet in the Old Testament. I asked if He would redeem my book, because there was no way to replace it. Two weeks later a woman called me and she had found my Bible and the book. When I sat down to read where I had left off, it was the story about the borrowed axe! Once I was reading Pauls writings about money and how to give. That morning I had four counseling calls about money. It would be very interesting to record how often the verses we read each day apply to what we face that day. Its a good way to see that God is ruling the days and not us!!! Never come to the place that you feel you know the Bible. After forty years of reading through the Bible, one to three times a year, I still learn something new every time I read. This year, reading the New Testament, I have seen the personality of Paul come to light. Ive never just looked at the Scriptures thinking about Pauls character. If you notice, he named the people who opposed him and the whole world knows who there are and what they did. How often do things get hid under the carpet for fear someone would know what happened. Paul wasnt afraid to just lay it out in the open. Have you ever read a book in the Bible and just noticed everything you can about the writer. Jeremiah was in and out of prison. There is a lot to learn about Jeremiah. There is no end to learning from the Scriptures. If you will get to know your Bible, you will know and understand your God a whole lot better. Some of you have attempted to read through in one year and ended up taking a few months longer. Let us know who you are and how long it took to finish. We asked for a year so we can have a goal to reach, but if it takes you longer, go for it. I am always amazed at who reads through and who never attempts to read through. Those you would expect to be in the Bible, so often are not. Those you would never expect to read through, often will read through. Last year I was looking through the Bibles at the book store and found the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible. It is up dated in spelling and written in paragraphs but is the KJV. I wasnt sure what I thought of it but decided to purchase it and read through it this year. I knew there couldnt be textual changes and it still be called the KJV. I am very leery of any changes to my Bible.

After reading through the paragraphical Bible I am convinced that it is so much better to read in paragraphs than verses. Your thoughts are not broken up and when there is poetry it is written in poetry style. I have so enjoyed and received insights that I had never caught before. The only change I noticed in the whole Bible was in I & II Timothy where the word flee is used, it uses the word fly. Check it out. I think you will enjoy reading it.

If you have read through your Bible this year, send us your name and we will publish it in the next paper.

Quotes by Adrian Rogers

You cant just tip your hat to Jesus; you must bow your knee. If Jesus Christ is still in that grave nothing really matters, but if He came out of that grave, nothing but that really matters. If you read the bible and you dont find Jesus, go back and reread it. It is a Him-book. Jesus didnt practice what He preached. He preached what He practiced. Let the presence of Jesus guide you. Let the promises of Jesus gladden you. Let the power of Jesus guard you.

By Gloria Brewster

In every trial there was profit when I walked through it Gods way. God has always be there in the end to redeem me from the enemies hands. Many days of our lives are troubled days, but those moments of victory are worth it all. It is the time of the year that we celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ and for myself I say, Happy Birthday Jesus and thank you for this Wonderful Life. It will be worth it all when we get home. This life is a battle ground and we are in a war against evil. We should keep our Swords (Word of God) drawn at all times. We are to live a work of faith, a labour of love and patience of hope IN our Lord Jesus Christ and in the sight of our God and Father (I Thess. 1:3). Living a Christian life is a life of labour! The reward for this life is Out of this World.
Only one life to offer Jesus, my Lord and King; Only one tongue to praise Thee And of Thy mercy sing. Only one hearts devotion Savior, O may it be Consecrated alone to thy matchless glory, Yielded fully to thee. Only this hour is mine, Lord May it be used for Thee; May every passing moment Count for eternity.. Souls all about are dying, Dying in sin and shame; Help me bring them the message of Calvarys redemption In Thy glorious name. Only one life to offer Take it, dear Lord, I pray; Nothing from Thee with holding, Thy will I now obey. Thou who has freely given Thine all in all for me, Claim this life for Thine own, to be used, my Savior, Every moment for Thee. ----Merrill Dunlop 1905

ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE!

Have you noticed that life is not easy? Do you have your hands full with life right now? Take courage! Good days are coming.

oR IS IT?

Many people sit and watch the movie Its a Wonderful Life during the Christmas season. Why do so many people relate to that movie? Why do they enjoy seeing it? That movie shows a man who had great troubles. So much so, that he tried to commit suicide. Although the movie is not doctrinally correct, there are many things that we can relate to. The man had dreams that never came true. He thought happiness would come from travel, but in the end he realized that happiness was right there with his family and friends. Most of us have dreams and we may never experience those dreams as we dreamed them, but if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He has promised to give us the desires of our heart (Ps. 37:4). Our desires are whatever we hoped to gain from our plans and dreams. God seldom does it our way, because His ways are higher than our ways (Isa. 55:8-9)! God was giving that man life in a way he never thought about doing. His job was not what he would have chosen. He didnt find his job exciting until he realized how he could help the people in his town. When he saw what his bank could do in making houses possible, and making it possible for them not to have to deal with a banker who had no thoughts for their good, he took real joy in what he was doing. He had money problems. There was never enough money to get ahead. His house was a fallen down house that he tried to repair, but it seemed he never got it completely repaired. Remember the knob on the stair case that always came off in his hand? But as much trouble as he was in, when it came down to the end, he was redeemed!!! God put it in the hearts of his family and friends to share with him and pull him through to victory. Yes! It is a Wonderful Life! Why? Because in all of our troubles that life takes us through, we have a great redeemer. I would not like to go backwards and go through my troubles again, but I am grateful for every hard place in my life. I learned something in every tough place I sat. I learned things about myself that I did not know. I learned some things about my family and friends that I did not know. But most of all I learned many things about my God that I did not know.

How to Give with a Cheerful Heart

There are many faith based ministries that run by gifts and donations. Many of them are worthy works. There are three divisions within our work and we all three exist by the gifts and donations of others. The question is, To whom do we give? There is no way you can give to everyone. A few weeks ago, one of our readers and supporters called and as we were talking, she mentioned that her church was asking for donations to remodel their auditorium. She and her husband are on a small fixed income and they are in their eighties. They have always been generous givers and are the first to help where there is a need. At this time in their lives all they have is what God has provided for their last days. She was troubled that they did not have money to give and was considering taking from their savings, but she didnt really think that was the wise thing to do. She felt trapped, desiring to give and wanting to use wisdom. We began talking about how to give. I believe setting principles about giving is one of the most important things you will do in your life. To keep back when God says give, or to give when it is not right to give, is the way we damage ourselves and hurt others. Have you seen parents (or you might be one) who give to their children in a way that destroys them instead of blessing them? How many times have we damaged lives because we do not give according to wisdom and the leading of the Holy Spirit? I said to this lady, Why did God give you your savings? She said, To take care of us these last days. I said, Was the request for money a life or death request? She said, No! I said, Unless God directly tells you to give from your savings, dont go into it except for life or death situations. It was given for sustaining life. The church will not live or die if they cannot up-date the auditorium. Then I said, Look at the monies you have for daily spending and see if there is something you can sacrifice from it and give what you have. We are never to give money that belongs to our bill collectors. If we owe a debt, the money is not ours to give! Then I said to her, You have one more option. If you really want to give a nice gift, beyond what you possess, ask God to give you the money to give. Then we both began to pray and asked the Lord to give them money to give if it was His will to redo the auditorium. The next morning she called so excited that she could hardly speak. Her husbands sister had died about six months before and he was the soul surviver. They sent a check for six hundred and some odd dollars from the settling of her estate, plus a check for five hundred and some odd dollars from a brothers estate who had died a couple of years before. They did not expect either estate to have money left in it. It was totally a surprise to them. God had given them the desire of their hearts and they were on cloud nine. The Bible says, We have not, because we ask not! Christmas is the season of giving. Giving is the greatest way to receive blessings. Its the giver that is blessed, not so much the one given too. God loves a cheerful giver and how can we give cheerfully unless we give wisely. Most of us give because of intimidation. We are intimidated when confronted with someones needs because we havent set principles of giving for our lives. You cannot be a cheerful giver and give because of intimidation! People who stand on the corners and beg do not necessarily need our donation. They likely are taking advantage of intimidation. Peter said to the lame man at the temple, Silver and gold have I none, but what I have give I thee. We do have something they need and we should never close our hearts to those needs. We are not told to support other peoples lives when they should be working, but we are to be merciful to life sustaining needs of others. Feed them if they are hungry; clothe them if they are naked; treat their wounds if they need healing! Our three works, the track ministry, the printing ministry and the Tid Bits ministry, exist from the generous giving of others. We never want others to be intimidated when it comes to our needs. Apply these principles of giving and IF you have a desire to give, and IF God wants you to give, He can and will make a way for you to give. We will go forward as God provides and both the giver and the receiver can know that they are walking in the way of the Lord. Both of us will be cheerful! Jesus taught us how to give by giving His WHOLE life to provide Eternal Life for you and me. God bless you and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Here comes the end of another year. What did we accomplish this last year and how have we made a difference in our lives and the lives of others? Did we take advantage of this year or did we waste it through procrastination and idleness? Ouch! I wonder if my greatest regret, will not be from what I did wrong, but what I failed to accomplish, even though I could have done it. Gloria and I are at the age most people retire and the reason they do is because of a loss of strength. There is a desire to sit down and let the younger do it. Yet, there is never a reason to stop as long as there is breath. We may make changes and retire from the responsibilities that we once carried, but we must continue to move forward as long as the Lord gives us breath. We can be a great help and encouragement to those who are taking our places. We certainly can be prayer warriors for the young. This month we heard from many who do not write regularly. It has been sweet to read their letters. Hearing that readers were touched or encouraged from the paper exhorts us to keep it up. Thank you for the kind words. One of our gifts this month was from a group of men who meet weekly for Bible Study. They decided to put their change together each week and support a ministry. They sent a little less than $30 and that was one of the sweetest gifts we received. Never think that your small gift could not make a difference. They gave pennies each time they met. Bro. Roloff had many widow ladies who sent a dollar a month for his radio program. He called them his darling dollar givers. They kept him on the radio! If God touches your heart to share, whatever the amount, it will make the difference.

MOTTO TO LIVE BY! Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, WOO HOO, what a ride! 6

(Seeing this is the season for giving we felt you would enjoy this excerpt)
One or the other of my readers may be ready to exclaim, six hundred and ninety-seven pounds eleven shillings five pence! What a large sum! Not one out of a hundred ministers has such a large salary, nor one out of twenty clergymen such a good living! Should you, esteemed reader, say so, my reply is; Indeed, mine is a happy way for the obtaining of my temporal supplies; but if any one desires to go this way, he must, -1. Not merely say that he trusts in God, but must really do so. Often individuals profess to trust in God, but they embrace every opportunity where they may directly or indirectly be able to expose their need, and thus seek to induce persons to help them. I do not say it is wrong to make known our wants; but I do say it ill agrees with trust in God to expose our wants for the sake of inducing persons to help us. God will take us at our word. If we say we trust in him, he will try whether we really do so, or only profess to do so; and if indeed we trust in him, we are satisfied to stand with him alone. 2. The individual who desires to go this way must be willing to be rich or poor, as the Lord pleases. He must be willing to know what it is to have an abundance or scarcely anything. He must be willing to leave this world without any possessions. 3. He must be willing to take the money in Gods way, not merely in large sums, but in small. Again and again have I had a single shilling given or sent to me. To have refused such tokens of Christian love would have been ungracious. 4. He must be willing to live as the Lords steward. If any one were to begin this way of living, and did not communicate out of that which the Lord gives to him, but hoard it up, or if he would live up to his income, as it is called, then the Lord, who influences the hearts of his children to help him with means, would soon cause those channels to be dried up. How it came that my already good income still more increased so as to come to what it is, I have stated in the early part of this volume; it was when I determined that, by Gods help, His poor and His work should more than ever partake of my means. From that time the Lord was pleased more and more to intrust me with means for my own purse. Various reasons might have kept me from publishing these accounts; but I have for my object in writing the glory of God, and therefore I delight in thus showing what a loving Master I serve, and how bountifully he supplies my necessities; and I write for the comfort and encouragement of my fellow-believers, that they may be led to trust in God more and more, and therefore I feel it due to them to state how, even with regard to this life, I am amply provided for, though that is not what I seek after. ----George Muller In reading this excerpt you will begin to understand why the writings of George Muller so affected our lives. WE encourage you to share with us the workings of the Lord in your lives. It might be the very thing that encourages someone else to go forward in their step of faith. If you do not feel like the Lord works special works in your life, check your work of faith. Remember, we have not because we ask not!!!!!
