Material Required 1000 gram Aran yarn 5.5mm crochet hook 6.5mm crochet hook I used Colourmatic Aran from Kismet Yarns in colour 31293 Credits and Disclaimer The stitch used is commonly used in crochet as an edging and not my own design. The design of the ruana is my own work but it is possible that it might look similar to another pattern already published. Should this be the case, it is coincidental and unintentional.

Project Impressions A Ruana (pronounced roo-WAN-a) is a traditional Columbian outer garment or wrap, usually made with heavy yarn. Its a rectangle with a slit down the centre front while the back remains solid. Simple to make, divine to wear. You start at the bottom of the back, working it up to the shoulders and then split the front into two pieces. The size of the garment might seem overwhelming its the size of a single bed blanket! Dont be put off though, its the most cosy wrap imaginable! You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this. If you use a thinner yarn, you will just have to add stitches in multiples of 3 to the 130 prescribed, to get the garment size you desire. If you want to use a thicker yarn, reduce the 130 stitches with multiples of 3 to get to the desired size. The yarn I used has the colours of the ocean and the beach. The stitch made me think of waves rolling up to the beach. Which is why I called it Rolling Ocean Ruana. To wrap this around you, is sheer luxury. May yours be as special as mine! Enjoy!
