Many companies and institutions are still doing to little to ensure their task lighting and general building lighting is individual, efcient and effective. Modern lighting solutions can help employees with their work, keep them motivated and improve their levels of concentration. The days in which ofces could only be illuminated with short-lived incandescent lamps or bulky uorescent lamps are long since gone.

Light versatile and functional. Today it is possible to save enormous amounts of electricity with energysaving lamps that look like ordinary light bulbs and t in the same holders. Modern uorescent lamps have become more compact but they are now also brighter, kinder to the environment and offer better colour rendering. And the new mains voltage halogen lamps can be operated on normal power supplies. Many of them with screw bases will t in normal luminaires designed for ordinary light bulbs. White and coloured, warm and cool light can be combined to achieve lighting moods suitable for specic tasks or times of day.

Light shows professionalism.

Lighting in modern ofce and administration buildings must above all perform two basic functions. It must create a pleasant environment for in which people can concentrate and work effectively, and it must create the right atmosphere so that customers and visitors can easily nd their way around and feel comfortable and welcome. The important thing here is for the lighting to be suitable for the particular sector of industry, the tasks to be carried out and the zones in which these tasks are performed.

Suitable sector-specic lighting. A multinational company in a modern steel-and-glass building will generally require different lighting from a traditional medium-size brick-built factory. Likewise, public institutions and ofces need different lighting from private companies. However there are general rules that apply to ergonomic workplaces, for example, or inviting reception areas. The ideal ECG for such applications is the QUICKTRONIC INTELLIGENT DALI with Touch DIM Sensor functionality. This enables the lighting system to be switched and dimmed with standard switches. No other components are needed. With an additional sensor it is possible to set up a cost-effective daylight-dependent control system with a presence function in conjunction with QUICKTRONIC INTELLIGENT DALI. Open-plan ofces are the most usual type of ofce. For workplaces close to windows daylightdependent lighting control can offer considerable energy savings. Ideally the ofce furniture will be arranged in harmony with the positions of the lighting systems. In these ofces the lighting requirements in terms of reducing glare are greater than those for individual ofces because of the larger oor area. Touch DIM Sensor, the light and motion sensor, is a simple way of providing daylight and presence control. Light provides special services.

Call centres should not give out an air of hectic activity but should of calm assurance and competence. If the people in call centres are to provide prompt and transparent answers to questions they need to concentrate properly, for which they need optimum lighting at their desks and especially around their screens. To prevent unnecessary noise from other workers and from customers the workplaces are usually enclosed in sound-absorbent half-height partitions. These elements are ideal for attaching indirect luminaires tted with high-wattage compact uorescent lamps. Motivating call centre lighting. Partition-mounted luminaires for OSRAM DULUX L 55/80W in combination with QUICKTRONIC INTELLIGENT ECG are a particularly attractive solution for call centres. They can be supplemented by OSRAM TABLE lights. Alternatively, indirect arch lighting can be provided by ECOPACK-FH DIM batten luminaires.

Customer service areas such as those in banks and public buildings have specic requirements in terms of lighting and the way in which the lighting can be provided at economical cost. Trafc zones need less light for example than counters and workplaces. Automatic teller machines need high levels of vertical and horizontal light. The light must be bright enough for customers to use the machines and read their balance printouts. Around the counters it is important to avoid direct and reected glare from the surfaces of furniture the light should therefore come from the sides.
