TOSHIBA's TOSHIBA's technologies technologies support support wide wide range range of of social social infrastructure infrastructure and and systems systems including including broadcasting broadcasting transmitter transmitter systems. systems.
Since starting the production of television transmitters in 1952, Toshiba Corporation have been consistent in the design and production philosophy of easy installation, operation and maintenance for the benefit of our customers worldwide. Toshiba have been supplying a great number of TV transmitters to customers worldwide who highly appreciate the high reliability, stability and performances. Toshiba developed an all solid-state 10kW UHF TV transmitter in 1984, and an all solid-state 50kW VHF TV transmitter in 1985; both were the first in the world of their category at the time. Since then Toshiba have been supplying numerous analog TV transmitters around the world. Toshiba started the delivery of the UHF digital terrestrial TV transmitters on the ISDB-T standard to Japanese domestic broadcasters in 2000. Following the 7000-series UHF digital transmitters shipped more than 100 sets to the broadcasters outside Japan, Toshiba is now unveiling the brand-new 8000-series UHF digital / analog TV transmitters.
Located in the western suburb of Tokyo metropolis, Toshiba Fuchu Complex is the largest factory of Toshiba Corporation, boasting of its gigantic area scale of 740,000 square meters, with a wide variety of products for social infrastructures worldwide. The products of Toshiba Fuchu Complex include electric power plants, transportation systems, large scale computer servers, telecommunications systems and elevating machines. Toshiba Fuchu Complex is a large plant of state-of-the-art technologies with thousands of engineers and partners. Toshiba's transmitters for professional broadcasting have been supplied from this Toshiba Fuchu Complex to the customers worldwide.
Features
Key technology
The 8000-series transmitters have been developed with high technologies and reliability. Applicable to a variety of standards: DVB-T/H, ATSC, ISDB-T/ISDB-TB *1, Chinese standard, NTSC, PAL and SECAM models are available. The latest LD-MOS FET chips are employed. All-band transmitter. The exciter and the power amplifiers can cover all the UHF band from 470 to 862 MHz. The 8000-series are digital-ready; and the analog models can be easily modified to digital. The exciter incorporates distortion compensators to allow adaptive compensation of non-linear distortions. *1: Brazilian digital TV standard
Reliability
We always put our highest priority on the Reliability in the design.
Preventive design
Transmitter protection: When the controller of the transmitter detects any abnormality in the RF output, reflection, liquid status (temperature, flow shortage, pressure and/or quantity), it automatically shuts down the system to protect the system. The power amplifier protection: When the power amplifier detects abnormal RF output, reflection and/or temperature, it shuts down the unit automatically to protect themselves.
Operability
Emergency-start switch With the emergency-start switch equipped at the MCCB panel of the transmitter cabinet, it is possible to re-start manually even when the transmitter controller is damaged.

As shown in the Figure-1 and -2, the coolant from the pump rack is fed into the transmitter cubicle from above. Then the coolant is divided into several flows and sent to the shelves of the power amplifiers. The coolant makes heat exchange while flowing through a power amplifier cold plate, and then is sent back through the pipe and to discharge heat from the outlet in the ceiling. The system is designed in a way that an appropriate amount of coolant can always be supplied at an optimum rate across the shelf plates where the power amplifiers are mounted.

Feature
The exciter consists of a signal modulator, a frequency converter and a signal compensator. The non-linear distortion compensation improves the equivalent C/N value, since it serves to suppress intermodulation in the power amplifier. The distortion compensation characteristic is kept stable since the compensator extracts it from the signal arriving from the transmitter for compensating purposes.
Expanded bandwidth
The exciter can set to any output frequency in all the UHF TV channel (from 470MHz to 862MHz) by means of the synthesizer system.
Non-Iinear distortions
The exciter incorporates distortion compensators to allow adaptive compensation of non-linear distortions. EXCITER
Pre-distortion system
The feedback type pre-distortion system automatically compensates for a non-linear distortion caused by the power amplifier. Since this feature keeps watching the variations in characteristics of the power amplifier, the operation remains stable irrespective of fluctuations in input and output levels and environmental factors including the ambient temperature.

Feature
This is a liquid-cooled power amplifier for a digital/analog UHF TV transmitter, making amplification of the low-level signal output from the exciter.
Maintainability
The units are easily mounted and dismounted because a power amplifier and a power supply are combined into one, and also because the power input connector, high-frequency output connector, and control connector are all plug-in type.
