Prologue

''The virtue lies in the struggle, not in the prize." is what Devansh firmly believes in. A
simple BCA guy, who had to work as an Associate at a renowned retail house as he
didn't get placed in any company at campus placements though only a few were
there, spotted a need gap, pulled his socks up to provide a platform to the lacs of
other students like him who actually want free and quality content for their
competitive exams preparation. At present, Devansh is heading Content
Management at smartkeeda with his excellent out of the box thinking approach and
enjoying every bit of it.

Being the co founder at smartkeeda he views success as a by-product of meeting
people's needs or wants. Being his mentor and a friend, I always guided and helped
him with everything I learned during my MBA at Amity and then stints at ICICI Pru
and Kotak and of course with my experience that I have earned while working for my
own venture STEPPS.

Though as a team we are miles to go, but we would love to share with you guys
where the idea really came from and how it actually got shaped. We view it as a
dawn that's yet to bring light into many lives.

The SmartKeeda Story

Congrats! You have got a baby

As they say frustration is the mother of invention, we call smartkeeda.com an
invention and the mother of course is Devansh Bhadauriya, a young and vibrant soul
and of course Lhe co founder, who's acLually bore Lhe labour paln. 8elng an asplranL
for government jobs himself, he at times felt that there must be a platform that
should cater to the needs of lacs of students like him. While working as an Associate
at a renowned retail house, he kept trying hard to find time for himself to join a
proper coaching institute to study and prepare for getting a decent job through SSC
but he was never able to.

At times, I suggested him to go online and find a website or two to continue his
preparation online. He even found a few but maximum of them were poorly
designed or so unorganized LhaL one can'L even navlgaLe from a parLlcular llnk Lo Lhe
desired one without hitting two or three wrong ones. Even a few are there which
seem to have been made with the only aim to build revenue through ad earnings as
on Lhelr pages you don'L flnd ads amongst the questions but the other way round.

I remember it was the month of November and we were discussing the same over a
cup of Lea aL my offlce. ln Lhe mld of our Lalks, he suddenly yelled, Why can'L l geL
something where I can get fresh and free sLudy maLerlal for my preparaLlon." ln a
[lffy l sald, 8uL, you can." and we sLayed ln sllence for almosL 2 mlnuLes.

Ch boy! l can'L express how l felL Lhe very nexL momenL Lo see uevansh played an
Archimedes. He stood up from his chair and started shouting, Lureka, Lureka!"

l wlLh an awkward expresslon sald, WhaL???" Why don'L we make one for Lhe
sLudenLs llke me?", he asked ln reply.

l LhoughL for a whlle and sald, Co ahead!"

There was a strong reason that made me believe that Devansh would deliver what
he then said. Many a time, people do start their own ventures but fail within a year
or Lwo. Why? A very lnLense reason whaL l personally belleve ls LhaL lL's because
many of Lhem sLarL someLhlng noL Lo saLlsfy people's needs, wanLs or deslres buL Lo
'make money'. And Lhere lles Lhe dlfference. uld you mark whaL uevansh acLually
said Why don'L we make one for Lhe sLudenLs llke me?" Pe dldn'L menLlon
money. What he aspired was a will to fill a need gap.

As we finished our tea, I asked Devansh to come to my place for the night to actually
plan things in ink.

At around 9:30 pm Devansh reached my place and right after dinner we sat to
discuss everything. We coined a few names for our website and confirmed their
availability as well, checked out a number of designs and templates, thought of how
we are going to present the contents.

While we were exploring everything related, it at times felt as if we were making
love. ?es, lL dld. lL was llke we were havlng a roller coasLer rlde. We dldn'L even
realize when it dawned and the only thing we both agreed upon that night was the
name 'smarLkeeda.com'

In India, if a person is extremely fascinated towards something and specifically
Lowards hls or her sLudles, we call hlm or her 'keeda' and as we long Lo help the
Keeda satiate their hunger of desired contents we actually assist them to become
'marL'. We lnLenLlonally llnked Lhe words and colned 'smarLkeeda.com'.

nexL mornlng, as soon as my broLher, who proudly owns Lhe clLy's largesL 'WebslLe
and Software oluLlons' company, woke up l asked hlm Lo geL Lhe domaln
http://www.smartkeeda.com booked.

WlLhln a few mlnuLes, he conflrmed Lhe booklng. l lmmedlaLely dlaled uevansh's
number and sald, CongraLs! ?ou have goL a baby!"
