Newsletter of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States Auxiliary VOLUME 42, ISSUE 4 DECEMBER 2013 Auxiliary Presidents Message
December is such a special time of year! This year, the Army National Guard turns 377! We are always proud to be a part of the Guard, especially as a Family Member. We stand Side by Side with Pride Always!
I would like to express my deepest sympathy to one of our Auxiliary Past Presidents Brooks Marr as her husband, Bill, is now with his Lord and Savior. Brooks e-mail is !"#$%$&''()*+,-.&+. In addition, Bob Spencer, the 1st EANGUS National President has passed away. He will be missed and remembered for all he did for EANGUS.
As we all celebrate the Holidays, please remember all of our Soldiers and Airmen separated from their Families and their respective Families. My prayers are with each and everyone of the them as having a loved one deployed during the Holidays is near and dear to my heart.
This is the rst Christmas in many years that my husband and children are not deployed, It will surely be a blessing to have them all together. Our three Grandchildren have surely brought back the magic of Christmas. Count your blessings and pray for a wonderful New Year.
Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
God Bless You and Your Families,
Jenny L. Lainhart ` EANGUS Auxiliary President

SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION from The Dogwood Blossom
One of the federal benefits EANGUS has helped secure in the past is recognition of out-of-pocket expenses for Guardsmen who travel significant distances to serve for their drill weekends. Current tax law allows currently serving Guardsmen and reservists who travel 100 miles away from home (one way) or more to:
-Deduct mileage expense of 56.5 cents per mile. -Deduct the cost of your lodging if your unit does not provide lodging. You must utilize receipts for these claims. -Deduct ! the cost of your meals while traveling to/from drill and meals during the drill weekend. You must utilize receipts for these claims.
You would report these expenses on Form 1040, line 24, and do not have to itemize them on Schedule A. However, we recommend you keep your detailed receipts and records of how you arrived at the deduction amount on hand, in the event you ever need to prove the deductions.
ALSO: If you have to travel to shooting ranges for training at your own expense, you may deduct those unreimbursed expenses. The same goes for anyone serving in Civil Air Patrol. For both of these, there is no minimum distance.
ATTENTION EANGUS MEMBERS: Please share this information with non-EANGUS members in your unit to show them how we are always working on their behalf!
