Contractor shall include damper manufacturer's Installation Instructions as part of the fire damper submittal. These instructions shall describe the applicable requirements for damper sleeve thickness, retaining angles, methods of attachment, ductto-sleeve connections, preparation of wall or floor openings, and all other requirements to provide an installation equivalent to that tested by the damper manufacturer during the UL Standard 555 qualification procedures. Contractor shall detail any proposed installations that deviate from these manufacturer's instructions and explain the needed deviations. All fire damper installations shall comply with the manufacturer's installation instructions or any submitted deviations and must be acceptable to Saudi Aramco.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 Fire Dampers (Shall be UL Listed) A.

Damper Frame: Frame shall be fabricated of galvanized steel and shall be installed in accordance to NFPA 90A. Frame shall be an approved product, roll-formed for structural rigidity and equipped with slots or holes for mounting to wall sleeve. Fire damper shall be securely mounted in fire rated wall, such that ducts can break away without lessening fire separation rating.

B. Damper Blades: Blades shall be an approved product and fabricated of galvanized shall designed for positive closure upon actuation. Dampers blades are to be constructed in accordance to SMACNA details. Wall Sleeves: Sleeves shall be fabricated in accordance to SMACNA fire damper guide-schedule 2, however, as a minimum sleeves shall be USS galvanized steel and equipped with a minimum 38x38x3mm angle iron frame to secure the sleeve in the wall, Angle iron frames shall be provided on both sides of the wall and shall be welded or bolted to the wall sleeve along with the entire perimeter of the sleeve. Actuation Mechanism: Devices shall be equipped with U.L Listed fusible links that are rated and marked for 73.9C (165F) unless noted otherwise on the Drawings. Free Area: Unless otherwise noted, fire dampers for use in ducted applications shall be constructed so that in the open position, the damper has a clear opening equal dimensionally to the duct size. The blade must be recessed into a pocket in the damper frame so that it is completely out of the air stream when the damper is open. Fire Rating: All dampers shall be U.L. labeled. Fire dampers shall be constructed and approved for use in walls or floors and rated at standard 1.5 hours or otherwise shown on the Architectural Drawings wall ratings. Fire dampers shall be dynamic rated so as to close against the maximum design airflow at its installed location with 10% safety factor and against. maximum pressure across the damper. Where fire dampers are used, they shall be factory-fabricated and installed to provide the following general performance characteristics: 1. Fire dampers shall be arranged to close automatically in the event the temperature exceeds 74C (165F). Fire dampers shall remain in the closed position under fire conditions. Fire dampers shall be constructed from correction resistant material. Damper Bearing shall be self-oiling bronze type.

Manual Volume Dampers A. Configuration: Manually operated dampers shall be of the opposed blade type. Where required, duct-mounted dampers shall be fabricated with blades parallel to the longest side of the ductwork in which they are installed. Dampers shall be fabricated as per SMACNA standards.

Frames: frame shall be fabricated as per SMACNA standards. Blades: Blades shall be fabricated in accordance with SMACNA recommendation. Blade Shafts and Bearings: Blade shafts shall be 1027cm round, hex, or square, cadmium plated steel and shall operate in nylon or oil impregnated bronze bearing mounted in the damper frame. Linkage: Linkage shall be a cadmium plated steel assembly of interconnecting crank-arms attached to the shaft of each damper blade. This linkage is to be mounted external to the air-stream. Seals: Dampers shall be provided with flexible metal or elastomeric jamb seals. Additionally, an extruded vinyl or elastomeric edge is required along the length of each blade. Accessories: Each damper shall be furnished with an extra shaft extension, hat channel bracket, manual lever and locking quadrant.

Automatic Back draft Dampers A. Frames: Frames shall be constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel with pre-punched mounting holes for case of installation. Blades: Blades shall be fabricated from aluminum with vinyl on the closing edge. Each blade shall pivot on nylon bushing to assure installation. Damper: the damper shall be spring to initial opening. The models to be used are WD-320 manufactured by Greenheck or approved equal.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Installation A. Dampers are to be provided where shown on the Drawings and required by IBC and applicable Codes and Standards. Installation to be neat, workmanlike and in accordance with the instructions of the damper manufacturer. Contractor shall provide suitable access at each fire damper to allow inspection, cycling or testing of the fire damper and replacement of the fusible link. This includes furnishing and installing duct access doors and wall or ceiling access panels as may be required. Contractor installing fire dampers shall be responsible for these access doors and panels unless they are specifically shown to be supplied by other trades.
