Nuclear Power Plant Plastic Pipe Report, Includes Polyethylene Pipe Used for Cooling Water Applications

Nuclear Power Plants. In January 2013, the Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC) Polymer Pipe Task Group completed a review of all related polymer pipe codes and standards for nuclear power plants in the USA. This project included a review of polyethylene pipe used for cooling water transport. Dr. Whelton was one of several contributors and this project was directed by the US National Institute for Standards and Technology. This final report is available through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Specifically, this report outlines the current status of standards, existing gaps in knowledge, and recommendations for future development. This report includes current needs for polyethylene pipe used for cooling water service.
