CLEAN-OUT SOLUTIONS

Oil and gas wells often contain unwanted components along with the hydrocarbons; sand, scale, mud, etc. To keep production optimized, periodic intervention should be performed to remove this debris. Welltecs clean-out solutions ensure access in new wells and bring producing wells back on-line fast and efciently. Running on e-line, these modular tools have proven to be robust and effective in maintaining and restoring production across a diverse environments including horizontal wells. 2

The Well Cleaner with Rotating Heads is designed specically to remove deposits left on the walls or completion components in the well. Over time, these often lead to decreased production or malfunctioning hardware. The Well Cleaner's different rotating heads remove these deposits to restore full functionality and production. The Well Cleaner Wishbone Honer (WBH) is designed to clean deposits from tubular walls over intervals where the internal diameter changes, such as mandrels and proles.

The Well Cleaner Safety Valve Brush (SVB) is built to remove scale and debris build-up on subsurface safety valves, restoring the ability to maintain pressure integrity. The Well Cleaner Dry Environment (DE) is designed specically for cleaning in dry environments. The auger at the tip loosens the debris and transports it into the bailer sections of the tool. The Well Cleaner Reverse Circulating Bit tool incorporates both a rotary system and a suction system that are combined for maximum efciency. This design breaks down hard debris and recovers the cuttings to the surface in the same run. The Well Cleaner Reverse Circulating Bit (RCB) effectively crushes mineral deposits like scale and cement, which are then captured in the integrated bailer system. It is the ideal solution for

removal of temporary cement plugs or hard-packed bridges of deposits. The Nozzle Brush can be used on the tool in place of the RCB to remove hard deposits from the walls of the tubulars and retrieve them simultaneously. The Well Cleaner RCB tool is run in combination with the Well Tractor to apply weight-on-bit as necessary and to counter reactive torque.

HEAVY INTERVENTIONS
WITH A LIGHT TOUCH

CLEAN-OUT SOLUTIONS
KEYHOLE SURGERY
A main feature of Welltecs solutions is the ability to deliver heavy duty results with high precision. This enables operators to apply surface monitored and controlled applications to a specic and predetermined part of the well, reducing the risk of damaging the wellbore, providing safer operations and enabling more interventions. As a result, reservoir drainage is optimized and the economic lifespan of wells and elds is prolonged.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
One of Welltecs key values is to provide solutions that minimize negative impacts on the environment. This is achieved by building small equipment for performing interventions, resulting in less emissions, and a reduced carbon footprint. Welltecs solutions can even be transported by helicopter minimizing both impact on the environment and mobilization time.

INHERENTLY SAFER OPERATIONS

As a company, Welltec continuously strives to increase safety. During operations, this translates into using fewer people, requiring a reduced number of lifts, and eliminating the need for explosives. On locations with limited space, such as small offshore platforms, between decks and Light Intervention Vessels, Welltec's e-line solutions offer improved logistics and reduced safety risks.

Over a period of eight years, an offshore Vietnam well had been producing sand along with approximately 1,000 bbl of liquids per day. Production decline led to an intervention where it was determined that the well was plugged with sand. The Well Cleaner PST removed 2,600 lbs of sand, clearing approximately 4,777 ft of sand bridges deposited across a number of different depths. The well was then returned to an optimized production rate.

A hydrate plug of unknown length was conrmed below the subsea tree in a water injection well offshore UK. The Well Cleaner RCB, tted with a 3.8 milling bit, was selected. In less than 20 hours, 173 ft of hydrates were removed to a depth that allowed the operator to re-establish functionality to the downhole safety valve. The operation was performed as RLWI and it was the worlds rst milling of hydrate on e-line.

Removing Cement Stringers on E-line

An operator in Alberta, Canada experienced recurring problems with cement stringers, causing a portion of their wellbores to be abandoned due to the timing of CT vs. frac dates. By using the Well Cleaner RCB, cement stringers was removed in a quarter of the time compared to CT while also eliminating pumping requirements, enabling the operator to reach TD and shoot the well without delaying fracturing. Due to successful testing this procedure is now standard on all 4 cemented liners.

Retrieving asphaltenes, RLWI water depth record

Capitalizing on RLWI efciency, an operator successfully intervened in a subsea well in 3,991 ft of water. They wanted to set a lock-open sleeve across a failed subsurface safety valve. Unfortunately, a slickline gauge run indicated obstructions after only ~1,000 ft. To investigate further, the Well Tractor and Well Cleaner RCB were selected. After milling, the tools were retrieved with bailers full of asphaltenes. The operator concluded that these unexpected deposits would likely be present throughout the well.
