Mission
The NX-class refit cruiser has the same mission as the original NXclass, save that it packs more firepower and defensive capability into the same frame.

Background
United Earth very quickly learned that the Vulcans were correct, humanity was not entirely prepared for the dangers of interstellar travel. In the first two years operation of the NX-class, Starfleet gathered valuable reconnaissance on the threats to Earth and its assets. An analysis of the original design specifications of the NX-class proved its vulnerability to many enemy capital ships, and even fighters. The shock of the Xindi attack on Earth prompted Starfleet to step up its plans for refitting the NX-class, and the Enterprise herself was the first recipient of the new upgrades, with the Columbia being the first NX-class starship designed with the upgrades from the get-go.

Features
The NX-class refit introduced a host of new and updated systems to the NX-class frame, including an enhanced hull polarization grid, photonic torpedoes, a universal translator update, and a new command center.

Name Enterprise Registry NX-01 Notes Launched under the command of Captain Jonathan Archer (2151), refit in one of Earths orbital drydock facilities for an extended mission in the Expanse(2153). Launched under the command of Captain Erika Hernandez (2154), the starship disappeared in 2156 while escorting a mining convoy from the Orias sector, only to be rediscovered crash-landed on a planet in the Gamma Quadrant (2373), before finally being recovered by the USS Da Vinci (2381). Launched under the command of Captain Roy Dunsel (2155), the Starship activated its self-destruct and rammed the Romulan warship Drivael in a successful effort to prevent it from attacking Andoria and taking control of Challenger (2156). Launched under the command of Captain Curtis (2155), the starship was destroyed in a trap set by a Romulan attack force using nuclear mines, though most of its crew survived in escape pods (2155). Launched in 2156 under the command of Captain Weiss, it was destroyed by a Romulan invasion force over Tau Ceti, though the crew managed to get into the escape pods (2156). Launched under the command of Captain Winchester (2156).
