LIGHT FROM THE EAST WM John Haas

Brethren, by the time you receive this trestle board the new officers of the lodge will have been elected and the excitement of the installation come and gone. The newly installed officers now face the challenge of running the lodge. Now, some may think, how hard can that be? You just have to conduct a lodge meeting twice a month. If only it were that simple. The lodge meetings are a small part of what it takes to run a lodge. You would be surprised to see what it takes to keep the lodge running smoothly. I make mention of this because the line officers will need your support, guidance, and words of confidence, while trying their best to oversee the activities of the lodge. Looking forward, we have a busy year ahead of us. Besides the normal business meetings, we have several fund raisers planned. We are also planning to work with our youth groups in their fund raising endeavors. And of course there will also be the issue of maintaining the building. The things we hope to accomplish will need the help of others. I'm relying on each of you to play a part in accomplishing the goals for the year. Please Help. Get Involved. When you see things getting accomplished, it's very rewarding.

WM John Haas

Chaplins Corner Happy New Year My Brothers! I hope this finds you all safe and well beginning this glorious New Year! Our past year was sorrowful to say the least. We tragically lost 12 of our Brothers to that great Heaven above. Their names will be remembered as they will be at the closing of the Memorial Lodge on January 4th. Our hearts are heavy with the loss, but our spirits are raised because we know that they are with their loved ones and The Great Architect has blessed them and will keep them in his arms. They will be a part of his great Lodge above and I am sure their work will meet with his approval. Luke 23:43 And he said to him, Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise. May the Great Architect Bless you all and keep you safe in the coming year. Peace Brothers.

From the West

Bro. Ron Glover
Thank you Brothers for the confidence you have shown in me by voting me Senior Warden for this new year. I am grateful and humbled to be in this position to help our lodge. I am looking forward to our labors and the challenges that will arise by being in the Senior Warden chair. As W John Haas moves to the east I am aware that I have some large shoes to fill. Due to the age of our lodge building both he and W M Jim Angelos had some tough decisions to make this past year and I will endeavor to tackle any situations that arise with the same amount of decorum as they showed. Since the start of my Masonic journey I have enjoyed every chair I have had the privilege of sitting in and have greatly appreciated all the advice and encouragement given to me over the past few years while moving through them. With experience comes wisdom and I enjoy any advice or constructive criticism given to me by every Brother while fulfilling the obligations required of the chair. It shows you care about our lodge. For those Brothers that are not aware, this past year, every Tuesday when there is not a meeting the officers have been meeting at the Lodge to practice the Openings and Closings, upcoming Degree works, Alternate Openings and Closings, and floor work. These practices are open to anybody and they have been a great source of enjoyment and fellowship over the past year and I look forward to attending the practices again this year. I encourage any brother who wants to participate or just sit and watch so they can see the line officers or offer advice to come and have a good time. Thank you again my Brothers for this opportunity. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and may the Great Architect bless you and your loved ones in this new year. Bro. Ron (Joey) Glover

From the Secretarys Desk Happy New Year Brothers! I want to wish each of you a prosperous and joyous time in the coming year. First I would like to thank the Brothers for having their faith in me and electing me once again to serve as your Secretary. It is an honor and privilege that I am most happy to accept. I hope that I can live up to your high expectations. I would also like to congratulate the new incoming Officers of the Lodge. They have a tough job ahead of them and I feel that they are more than able to meet the tasks given them. I hope that all the Brothers will offer their support to them and help them this coming year to make our Lodge the premier Lodge in the 18th District! If you werent aware, I will tell you that the Brothers who were delinquent in their dues and voted on by the Craft, were suspended on the morning of December 28, 2013. This was done reluctantly and with sadness but it was done according to Masonic Law and the Florida Digest. I hope that they will come forward and pay their dues and be reinstated. There are a few things coming up this year that will hopefully, please the Brothers of the Lodge. We have a Craft and Art show on March 1st and that will coincide with our Saturday morning Breakfast. We will also be serving lunch so hopefully the Lodge will benefit from this and raise some much needed funds. I have placed two pages in the Trestle Board that I hope all the Brothers will use. The first is for Masonic Education report form and is used to report any activity that we go to and receive Masonic Education. The second is an Announcement form to be used to submit any announcements you may have to the Worshipful Master to give at the end of the meeting and also that I may send out via e-mail every week. In both cases, please fill them out and drop them in the slot in the Secretarys door and I will make sure they are handled correctly. If you have any questions on this please come by and see me. I will be continuing to be in the Lodge on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM and more often if needed. I also forward all the Lodge calls to my cell phone when Im not there so your calls will be answered Brothers! Thank you again for this honor. WHank DeBerry

From the South

Brethren, Welcome from the South. As the position of one who calls the craft from Labor to Refreshment and Refreshment to Labor it is the responsibility of the Junior Warden to oversee the function of the kitchen and refreshments for the craft. One part of this responsibility is a line item in our Lodge operating budget for generating income from our events such as the First Saturday Breakfasts, Second Sunday Dinners, contributions for refreshments at our stated and called meetings and other official functions where refreshments are provided to support the Lodge. The Lodge makes a small profit over our expenses from these functions which fulfills the budget expectations. It is expensive to maintain our Lodge property between insurance, utility bills, regular maintenance issues, electric and our charitable obligations. Your support of our fundraising projects is therefore greatly appreciated. We do look forward to support as we start a newyear in 2014. As always your comments and suggestions for additions or improvements to our menu offering is always greatly appreciated.

Roles and How We Play Them W. Wally Zink

Jeffs Comedy Corner

Whenever Im downhearted and disappointed with my role in life, I stop and think about little Jamie Scott. Jamie was trying out for a part in the fourth grade school play. His mother told me that he had his heart set on being in it, though she suspected that he would not be chosen. On the day the parts were assigned, Jamie rushed home, ran into the house and with the excitement of a ten year old shouted Guess what Mom, and then in words that have hung in my mind these many years and have been a lesson to me, Jamie declared with pride, Ive been chosen to clap and cheer. It is recorded that Abraham Lincoln often visited hospitals to talk with the wounded soldiers during the Civil War. On one such visit, doctors pointed out a young soldier who was near death. Lincoln walked over to his bedside. Is there anything I can do for you? asked the President. Obviously the soldier did not recognize Lincoln, and with exerted effort he was able to whisper, Would you please write a letter to my mother? A pen and paper were given to the President and Lincoln carefully began to write down what the young man was able to say: My dearest mother, I was badly hurt while doing my duty. I am afraid I am not going to recover. Dont grieve too much for me, please. Kiss Mary and John for me. May God bless you and father. The soldier was too weak to continue, so Lincoln signed the letter for him and added, Written for your son by Abraham Lincoln. The young lad asked to see the note and was astonished when he discovered who had written it. Are you really the President? he whispered. Yes I am. Lincoln replied quietly. Then Lincoln asked if there was anything else that he could do? Would you please hold my hand? the soldier asked. It will help me see it through to the end. In the hushed room, the tall gaunt President took the boys hand and silently held it until death came. If there is a lesson in these two incidents, it is simply this; it is not the roles we play in life but how well do we play the role we have?
