Based on this conviction, Sebastian Kneipp (1821-1897), a naturopath and priest, created a life philosophy that sees man going about his daily habits and routines in his natural habitat as an inseparable entity. Sebastian Kneipps holistic approach is still of groundbreaking relevance.
At the age of 28, Sebastian Kneipp cured himself of a severe case of tuberculosis. At that time, the disease was usually fatal, but Kneipp came across an eighteenth-century book about hydrotherapy that inspired him to immerse himself several times a week in the icy Danube River. These brief exposures to cold water seemed to bolster his immune system. His tuberculosis went into remission and so he dedicated the rest of his long life to harnessing the healing power of water, specic plants and herbs. The years from 1855 to 1880 were a very signicant period in Kneipps life. His success in healing himself motivated him to combine and extend his tried and tested water treatments. This he did by observing and carrying out numerous tests on himself and his patients in order to create a successful preventative and curative concept, with constantly improved and rened methods. His treatments included cold rinses, water stepping, hot and cold half and full baths, contrast baths as well as hot and cold wet packs and compresses. Advanced in years, Sebastian Kneipp became friends and close partners with a Wrzburg pharmacist who shared his conviction using naturopathic medicine and healing remedies. Using natural plant essences and other pure ingredients as a base, they created the formulas that still, to this day, constitute the basis for many of our products. In 1891, Sebastian Kneipp entrusted his friend and fellow pharmacist with the legacy of his lifelong studies by granting him the exclusive right to develop, produce, and sell products under the name and with the image of Father Sebastian Kneipp. This contract formed the foundation stone for the Kneipp-Company of today. Sebastian Kneipp died in Bad Wrishofen on 17 June 1897 at the age of 76. At the time, together with Emperor Wilhelm II and Bismarck he was one of the three most famous people in the German Empire.
Kneipp-Werke is an independent division of the Hartmann Group, with 300 employees in Germany and more than 400 worldwide. Kneipp, a Wrzburg-based company, has two modern production sites. At the main site in OchsenfurtHohestadt near Wrzburg, dragees, lotions and bath oils, one of the mainstays of the Kneipp product line, are produced. The all important research and development laboratories, quality control and logistics departments are also located here. In the spa town of Bad Wrishofen, where Sebastian Kneipp based his activities, bath salts and sparkling bath tablets are produced, and a complex analysis of all raw materials is carried out. Kneipp-Werke has been operating successfully on an international level with its four subsidiaries in the Benelux countries since 1951, in Switzerland since 1996 and in France and Japan since 2008. It distributes its products through its distribution partners in more than 25 countries. Today, Kneipp-Werke is a modern, globally active company with considerable development potential that continues to heed the important legacy and holistic philosophy of its co-founder.
Pine
Essential pine oils are stimulating. They are known to strengthen bodys defenses and ease tension and muscle pain.
Melissa
Relaxing for a sound nights sleep. Also known as Sweet Balm and Lemon Balm, Melissa, one of the earliest known medicinal herbs, is used to calm anxiety and nervous tension, as well as to reduce insomnia and promote restful sleep.
Spruce
So fresh it will lift up your spirits. Essential oil of spruce helps to shake off fatigue and exhaustion. Its clean scent has long been considered as opening and elevating. It can also help improve circulation.
Eucalyptus
Fresh and clean, helps clear the senses. From an evergreen tree, eucalyptus has a long history of use against colds. Inhaling the vapor during a warm soak helps clear the sinuses and relieve the senses. It can also bring relief when you feel a cold coming on. A good choice in allergy season, it can also be cooling in summer.

Juniper
Soothes tired, sore muscles. This legendary herb formed the magic wreath which Romans used to ward off evil spirits. Juniper, an evergreen shrub, helps rid the body of toxins and stimulates circulation. It also helps to relieve tension and stress. These qualities make it the perfect choice for use after sports.
Rosemary
Invigorating, wakes up the system. One of the earliest plants used for food, medicine and magic. Sprigs of Rosemary were burned in shrines in ancient Greece to drive away evil spirits. Romans viewed the rosemary wreath as a symbol of energy. Its exhilarating scent is an ideal pick-me-up or great way to start the day.
Water Treading
Fill tub or large bucket knee-deep with cold water. Make sure your feet are warm! March like a stork until sensation of cold appears (after 1-2 minutes). See to warm up afterwards (no dot towel-off, put on socks, move around). Effect: Strengthens the immune system (inurement), helps refresh tired legs, helps with headaches, helps with high blood pressure, helps calm down, promotes a sound nights sleep. Use with caution when suffering bladder and kidney diseases and acute abdomen infections.
Face Affusion
Start at right temple using a weakened water jet. Repeatedly move over forehead towards left side; circle right and left side of face approx. 3-4 times using longitudinal strokes. Wipe water softly off your face with your hand. Always breathe out calmly. Effect: Tones and refreshes skin, promotes circulation, helps ease headaches, refreshes and awakens eyes after long reading or concentrated work. Use this treatment with caution when suffering infections of frontal sinus or paranasal sinus.

Beauty Care:
For experts: Finish your full-bath with an alternating warm and cold shower according to Sebastian Kneipp. If executed regularly, alternating affusions help tone skin, increase circulation and strengthen bodys immune system. For everybody: After bathing, pamper your skin. Massage light layer, which is the result of the re-fattening oils, into still damp skin.
Rest:
In order for body and mind to benefit from a relaxing bath, rest for approx. 30 minutes afterwards. Make yourself comfortable on the couch with your favorite blanket; indulge in something you enjoy and which relaxes you.
Water Temperature:
Do not bathe in water which is too hot; the higher the waters temperature, the more moisture skin loses. Water, which is too hot, additionally strains heart and circulation. The ideal water temperature is at 36 38C (97 100F).
Duration:
The perfect duration for a bath is between ten and twenty minutes. The body needs some time to absorb the warmth of the water and the bath additives effects. If the duration of a bath is too long, skin and circulation are stressed.
Decoration of Bathroom:
Try to forget about the hassles of the day. Just by adding small details, e.g. a lit candle, sea shells and soft music, you can transform your bathroom into an oasis of well-being.
Relaxation:
Take time for yourself. Make sure that all distractions, such as telephones, are shut off. This bathing-time is you-time! Lean back and get comfortable.
Moment:
Take a relaxing bath in the evening; it helps calm down and therefore promote a sound nights sleep. Additionally, in the evenings our sense of smell is more distinct than in the morning. The essential oils scents can be absorbed best.
Bath Additives:
Increase the positive effects of warm baths by adding bath additives based on highvaluable natural oils. Re-fattening oils, e.g. Almond blossom and Macadamia, recondition skin. Essential oils, on the other side, have multifarious effects from relaxing to invigorating.
Light:
Pay attention to mellow, bright and soft light. For example, create a sensual atmosphere by lighting a candle.

KNEIPP SKINCARE-TIP
Body oil is by far more fatty than body lotion. Usage therefore depends on the skin type. Dry skin and dry skin are not always the same. One can differentiate between low-fat/dry and low-moisture/dry. Body oil is very suitable for low-fat-dry/skin, whereas low-moisture/dry skin requires body lotion. We, however, recommend the following: Apply body oil directly after a shower or bath to still damp skin. Body lotion is very suitable for your daily skincare regimen.

Skin is the bodys largest organ. It therefore requires a lot of attention and special care. At the age of 25, skin begins to start losing moisture. Additionally, frequent showers, stress and environmental inuences damage the skins natural protective layer and increase moisture loss. However, Mother Nature can help: Valuable fatty plant oils are essential in daily bodycare. Oils, such as almond oil and grape seed oil, contain high amounts of essential fatty acids and vitamin E. As natural oils structure of fatty acids is very similar to that of the human skin, they are being absorbed especially well by the skin. Plant-based oils balance the skins moisture loss naturally, leaving skin feeling soft and smooth. Mineral oils (e. g. parafn oil, silicone oil) are by-products of kerosene processing. They barely penetrate the skin, but rather build a barrier, hindering the skins natural balance. Kneipp Herbal Body Wash Citrus Fruit & Melissa
The body wash contains melissa extract and valuable essential oil of the citrus fruit. This unique composition helps calm body and mind and, at the same time, energizes and refreshes. It provides gentle cleansing, leaving your skin soft and supple, moisturized and lightly scented.
Kneipp products do not contain mineral oils. They are manufactured with plant-based oils only!

Traditionally, essential oils are used in scentdiffusers, bath additives, massage oils, or herbal pillows. However, they also have a meaningful use in bodycare products which are used on a daily basis. Just like the two new Kneipp Natural Skincare-series Jasmine & Argan Oil and Lemongrass & Olive. The high-valuable essential oils of different products within the series unfold their effects during application. SensitiveDerm Basic Care for Highly Sensitive and Allergic Skin Types
Highly sensitive and allergic skin types often react extremely delicately on environmental stress and external inuences. This can often be referred to the fact that skins natural and protective barrier is damaged; thus, it can no longer protect reliably against external inuences. That is why this skin type requires especially mild and skin-compatible care which protects skin reliably while it strengthens its barrier naturally. The active principle of this Kneipp SensitiveDerm Skincare nurtures, protects and strengthens highly sensitive, allergy-prone skin. By deliberately leaving out ingredients potentially causing allergies, e.g. perfume oils, color, preservatives, skin is protected from undesired reactions.

Whats the difference between essential and fatty oils?
Essential oils, quite the contrary to fatty oils, are volatile scents which are predominantly isolated from plants or plant-parts, such as blossom, leaf, bark, husk, resin, stem or root, through steam distillation. They are not re-fattening, although we usually assume this because of the word oil. Essential oils offer numerous different areas of application: They are used in perfume, or mixed with fatty basic oils to serve as massage oil, bath oil and ointments. They, however, can also be used as an aromatherapy-oil, to be used in a stove. Essential oils can inuence body, mind and soul in different ways: They calm, invigorate, relax, they promote concentration and inspire the senses. Fatty plant-oils are usually won through pressing of fruit and seeds. They have become irreplaceable in the utilization of every-day bodycare products, such as body wash, body lotion, body oil and bath additives. Thus, plant-based oils, like grape seed oil or almond oil, contain high amounts of essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Since the fatty acid-structure of natural oils is very similar to the human bodyskin, they are exceptionally well tolerated and absorbed. Plant-based oils balance moisture loss of skin naturally; the skin becomes soft and smooth.
