Vision
Key Objectives
A. Development of Roadway: Objective is to create an efficient road transport system that would form the
lifeline of the economy.
Establishing complete network of roads covering the entire district including all the villages, inter state
connectivity and highways; This would entail augmentation, Rehabilitation and development of :
State Highway networks
Four laning of State Highway having high traffic density through PPP
Development of Major District Roads (MDR) networks
Construction of Ring road around Aurangabad city
Eight laning of State Highway connecting to Delhi-Mumbai Industrial corridor
To connect Taluka Headquarters with District Headquarter with at least Two lane roads
To improve Road Safety measures
Strengthening of existing roads
Connecting all villages with Tar roads

Implementation of Double Track between Manmad-Aurangabad section
Electrification of Railway track

C. Development of Airways : In view of the increased Air traffic , both domestic and international, as well as to
position Aurangabad as a premier Industrial / Tourist Destination in the State, following Objectives have been set
as below:
To develop Aurangabad Airport with international facilities
To construct Helipads / Heliports at Taluka level
Introduce the Flights connecting Aurangabad with major destinations in the country
To augment and upgrade transport network with a view to ensure fastest connectivity with safety.
A. Roadways
Status of road network in the district and proposed coverage are presented here under:
Aurangabad District having area of 10107 Sq km has a road length of 0.798 Km per Sq km and 1292 villages are
connected by roads out of total 1300 villages within the district.
Indicators for Development Objectives
The total road length in the Marathwada region i.e. in Aurangabad, Jalna, Nanded, Parbhani, Hingoli, Beed,
Osmanabad and Latur district category wise are given in table below.
Comparative Analysis: Road Lengths in KM Surrounding Districts
It may be observed Aurangabad districts road coverage of 0.798 km per Sq km is less than coverage of other
districts in the region.

It is observed that the village road length comprise 45% of the total road length. The objective is to gradually
upgrade the village roads to the status of ODRs and similarly the status of the present ODRs to the MDRs.
It may be observed from the intra district connectivity map that there is no MDR connecting Paithan and
Gangapur, similarly the existing link between Soygaon and Kannad is very weak. The alignment of ringroad to
the south of Aurangabad city is incomplete between Aurangabad- Nagar Road and Aurangabad- Paithan Road.
Similarly ring road alignment exists only to the south and north east of the Aurangabad city. The remaining
important incoming roads are not connected by the ring road viz Aurangabad- Nagar road, Auranagabad-
Mumbai Road and Aurangabad- Jalgaon Road. In absence of the full fledged ringroad intercepting all the
incoming roads, redundant flow of heavy traffic passes through the entire city putting extra burden on city road
network.

As part of its strategy to develop good quality road network across the State including capacity augmentation,
repairs and rehabilitation etc. GoM have been drawing upon various schemes such as MREGS, PMGSY, BOT works
through RIDF project, CRF, NABARD loan to finance its development programme. Some of the on going

17 projects under Centre Road Fund (CRF) entailing an investment of Rs.3409 lacs are in the advanced
stages of implementation, Roads and Bridges under Projects under Marathwada Vikas Programme and 59
rural road network development though financing from NABARD having an outlay of Rs.2571lacs

In Aurangabad region all villages having more than 1500 population are to connected by B.T. road under
PMGSY . In Aurangabad district out of total 1300 villages 967 are connected by B.T. road and rest are in
development stage.

Proposed Interventions for Roads and Ancillary Infrastructure
District Road Development plan 2001-2021 for Aurangabad district has been proposed by GoM and this forms
the basis for the proposed interventions in this sector. Details of the interventions are under approval. This is the
base for Vision-2020 document.
Road Development strategy: Recommendation & guidelines of Indian Road Congress (IRC) are taken into
consideration for augmenting/upgrading the road network with following objectives:

Extension of State Highway to District Head Quarter, Industrial Centers, Tourist Centers
MDR to connect villages with population 1000-1500
To connect remote villages by all weather roads

B. RAILWAY:
Aurangabad is located on the Nanded - Manmad broad gage line section of South Central Railway zone of the
Indian Railways. Aurangabad has rail connectivity with Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Amritsar, Patna,
Madurai. It is also connected to many other important destinations in the country. Railway line network in every
100 sq.km. is very less in Aurangabad District and Marathwada region. Manmad Kachiguda Broad gage Railway
line is single. Aurangabad Railway section is being developed as model railway station.
Proposed Interventions:
1) Doubling of the lines and electrification to cater the more passenger and freight traffic on Kachiguda
Manmad Railway Route.
2) Construction of new railway lines between:
a. Osmanabad Kunthalgiri Beed Paithan Aurangabad Elora Ajantha Jalgaon
b. Rotegaon Puntamba
3) Construction of Railway over Bridges at existing level crossings

B. RAILWAY:
Aurangabad is located on the Nanded - Manmad broad gage line section of South Central Railway zone of the
Indian Railways. Aurangabad has rail connectivity with Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Amritsar, Patna,
Madurai. It is also connected to many other important destinations in the country. Railway line network in every
100 sq.km. is very less in Aurangabad District and Marathwada region. Manmad Kachiguda Broad gage Railway
line is single. Aurangabad Railway section is being developed as model railway station.
Proposed Interventions:
1) Doubling of the lines and electrification to cater the more passenger and freight traffic on Kachiguda
Manmad Railway Route.
2) Construction of new railway lines between:
a. Osmanabad Kunthalgiri Beed Paithan Aurangabad Elora Ajantha Jalgaon
b. Rotegaon Puntamba
3) Construction of Railway over Bridges at existing level crossings

Convenience, Drinking Water, Waiting Halls, Reservations / Booking Centres, Parking and Landscaping etc. at
Railway Stations at Aurangabad, Mukundwadi, Chikhalthana, Karmad, Daulatabad, Potul, Lasur and Parsoda.
5) Introduction / starting of new railway trains to connect the Aurangabad with other destinations and cater the
more tourist / passenger traffic including:
a. Aurangabad Tirupati Rameshwar Express
b. Daily train connectivity with Pune / Kolhapur
c. Extension of Purna Patna Express services upto Aurangabad
d. Super express between Nanded and Mumbai via Aurangabad
e. Addition of some bogies / coaches from Aurangabad to Nanded Banglore Express at Parbhani
6) Inclusion of Nanded Railway division into Central Railway as per the recommendation of Railway
Organisation Committee
Railway Board will carry out the detailed assessment and financial requirement to address the above
interventions in effective way. Wherever necessary funding will be mobilized through State Government and
Private Sector Participation.
C. AIRWAY:
Aurangabad Airport is located at Chikhalthana part of the Aurangabad City, which is approximately 6 km away
from the Central part of the city.
To facilitate the tourist and passenger traffic, government had undertaken the overall development of
Aurangabad Airport and completed in 2008. Aurangabad Airport has connecting flights to Delhi, Mumbai,
Udaipur, Jaipur as well as Hyderabad. Now Aurangabad has an international Airport. Every year there are flights
making available to all the people travelling to Hajj pilgrimage.
Proposed Interventions:
Considering the growing tourist and passenger traffic it is essential to connect the Marathwadas capital with
other important cities in the Country. After modernization of Airport, all requisite facilities are developed at
Aurangabad. Aurangabad Airport is the central airport for Aurangabad and surrounding districts. Following
cities can be connected with Aurangabad for the providing better air connectivity to the traveler:
a) Hyderabad Latur Aurangabad Mumbai
b) Delhi Jaipur Udaipur Aurangabad Mumbai
c) Delhi Khajuraho Nagpur - Aurangabad Mumbai
d) Mumbai Goa Aurangabad Delhi
e) Connecting Airways services between Aurangabad, Osmanabad, Latur and Nanded
Support infrastructure for business tourism in terms of food, hospitality infrastructure and recreational facilities
