The Binomial distribution (J. Bernoulli, 1713), denoted by B(n,p) , can be defined as the number of successes produced in a succession of n independent Bernoulli trials, p being the probability for a success in each trial. When n=1, B(1,p) is called 'Bernoulli distribution', briefly b(p) . The probability mass function equals Pr[X=x]= COMBINAT(n,x)p x (1-p) n-x for 0<=x<=n . The two first moments are E[X]=np and Var(X)=np(1-p) . If m=(n+1)p is an integer the binomial distribution has two modes, located at (m-1) and at m . When m is not an integer, there is only one mode at [m], the integer part of m . For n>20 , the binomial distribution function tends to the normal distribution, with the above expected value and variance. The skewness and the (excess of) kurtosis -0.5 -1 coefficients are g 1 =(q-p)(npq) and g 2 =(1-6pq)(npq) respectively.
