In Ancient Egypt the military was very important in the Ancient Egyptians
daily life while war was going on and when it was not.
• They had an army full of standing full-time soldiers. The soldiers were stationed
throughout all of Ancient Egypt.
• The Ancient Egyptian's military was made up of:
• Divisions=companies
• Divisions- made up of about 5000 men-lead by generals or lieutenant- general
• Companies- made up of 200 men- lead by captains
• Captains had a staff with the symbol or sign of their company had.
• Parts of the Egyptian military were made up of mercenaries- people paid to fight for Egypt
• The Egyptian army was made up of an infantry, archery, and a chariotry. Young men were
sorted to these areas in the army based on their skills.

The Ancient Egyptian army used several different types of weapons when they
were battling other people.
• Soldiers on foot used weapons such as:
• Javelins- long spears used for throwing across distances
• Daggers
• Short curved swords
• Protection:
• Their shields were made of rawhide
• Helmets were padded caps
• Chariots:
• Chariots were used by soldiers to fight- 2 soldiers per a chariot
• Chariot- wooden horse drawn carriages
• Used as easy to move fat surfaces that archers could stand on to attack the enemy
• Soldiers in chariots wore- leather body armor and a bronze helmet

During the time of peace different jobs outside of the military were worked on by
soldiers.
• Digging irrigational canals
• Carrying stones from the dessert to build pharaoh's tombs
• Paid with food and clothes, Different jobs were occupied when there was no war or soldiers
could be patrolling trade routes
Weapons- different weapons were used for different reasons
• The eye ax was made of bronze it had a wooden handle and its head was a half
moon shape with two holes.
