Venues and Games Readiness Head of Venues / Cluster Venue Managers

Job Purpose:

A key responsibility for the position of the Venue Manager will be to lead a venue team in the preparation, readiness testing and operational delivery of an event within games venues on behalf of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee. For you to be successful in this role, you will be an excellent facilitator, who works well with a variety of team members to get results. You will establish productive and positive working relationships with Functional Area Managers, existing venue operators and your venue team. You will be able to identify games critical issues and bring the right parties together to resolve them. You will be known for your high energy levels and commitment to working whatever hours to get the job done. You will have the ability to inspire and motivate your team, to achieve excellent results.

Key responsibilities

Reporting Relationship:

Key Objectives: Lead venue planning, including venue planning phases for your venue. Facilitate the development of policies and procedures, project plans, emergency evacuation plans, venue structure implementation, contingency plans and daily run sheets on behalf of your venue. Manage the expectations of different stakeholder groups. Capture and facilitate resolution of issues related to operations and venue development. Demonstrate strong facilitation skills aimed at getting results. Problem-solve or escalate major issues that require central resolution. Demonstrate effective leadership through various phases of venue development and delivery. Ability to build, train and retain a strong venue team. Understand and adhere to contract obligations relating to your venue, in particular the venue use agreement. Understand the physical features and layout of a venue and the special services or needs required by all client groups within the location. Develop a strong relationship with the existing venue owner and contribute positively to the establishment and management of the Venue Use Agreement. Actively monitor the venue budget, work within the budget and report upwards any potential variations. Responsibility for the development of detailed Venue Operating Plans & Event

Delivery at Games Time for your venue. Manage the expectations of different stakeholder groups. Responsible for delivering a well scoped, designed, managed and well prepared activity-ready venue which have effective and efficient operating procedures. Responsible for ensuring integration of the various functional areas within each venue and providing leadership both locally and centrally at venues throughout the Games.

Responsibilities of this role will evolve during the lifespan of the Organizing Committee and it is likely that the role profile will evolve with the changing needs of the Games.

Knowledge: Experience at delivering international sport Games or Championships Experience in the end-to-end delivery of large-scale projects Experience in the program management of multiple complex projects Good knowledge of, and proven practical ability for budgeting and resource allocation procedures and the ability to make difficult choices as to the deployment of resources is a prerequisite for this role

Specialist Skills: Extensive operational experience in Olympic / Commonwealth Games event management, venue management and/or project management roles. Experience in the establishment of integrated services functions for an organisation with a finite lifespan. Highly developed facilitation, communication and negotiation skills are essential. The ability to remain flexible when faced with ambiguity or constant change. The ability to get results.
