1. Skype 2.1 Beta Brings New Features To Linux

For anyone that extensively uses Skype on Linux, you will probably want to head on over to the 
Linux Skype Developer page to fetch the latest beta. Skype has just rolled out the first 2.1 beta 
(2.1.0.47 Beta) of the Linux Skype client, which adds several new 
features and also brings a number of fixes and other improvements. 

The new Skype Linux features are high quality video codec support, 
Skype's SILK audio codec support, PulseAudio compatibility, SMS 
sending support, chat messaging editing/removing capabilities, 
contact groups support, typing notification in chat, chat picture 
support, mood messages, video/mobile icons are now visible in the 
contact list along with bookmarked chats, and also added are contact 
labels/tags.

4. Slackware 13.0 is released

Yes it's that time again!  After many months of development and careful
testing, we are proud to announce the release of Slackware version 13.0!

We are sure you'll agree that the improvements made in this release more
than warrant the major version bump up from the 12.x series.  We've done our
best to bring the latest technology to Slackware while still maintaining the
stability and security that you have come to expect.  Slackware is well known
for it's simplicity and the fact that we try to bring software to you in the

8. Women in Linux

Women in Linux (or technology in general) has always been a 
rare breed. I have been very unsuccessful trying to make my 
female friends or family members getting interested in linux. So 
in my quest in getting more women interested in linux I have 
made this list of women who have actively contributed in linux 
community. This list doesn’t include women in just open source 
community (like Mitchell Baker of Mozilla Foundation) but 
more specifically women with notable contribution in linux 
community. This list is in no particular order.

9. 60 Thousand Russian Teachers Will Learn Linux by the End of 2009

Various initiatives emerge in Russia that are all intended to promote open­source software that is 
considered to be more friendly to the national interests of the country. One of such initiatives is 
transition of Russian schools from Microsoft products (that are often pirated and could thus easily 
become a reason for huge problems for teachers) to open­source products, including Linux and 
Open Office.

10. Rails­like Quickly tools brings rapid development to Ubuntu

Canonical has created a new framework for Ubuntu called Quickly that aims to 
accelerate application development. It provides a set of command line tools for 
generating new programming projects, building packages, and releasing 
software.

11. SELF Coursebook: Introduction to Free Software

A first book has been published by the SELF Project. Introduction to Free Software has been 
produced together with the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) with a number of recognised 
authors on the subjects of Free Software. The book provides an introduction to the inspiring world 
of Free Software, covering its main concepts, some of the most successful free software projects, the 
specifics of their development and the legal basis that free software licenses provide for the 
protection of users' freedoms. It also contains a large directory of glossary, bibliography and links to 
help the reader explore deeper into this field.
