Laserlite Plus Installation

Carefully read all installation instructions before you start. Caution. Always exercise extreme care when working on a roof. Use walking boards along purlins. Never walk directly on the sheeting. Always wear safety glasses or goggles when operating cutting tools or drills.

1. Ensure that your roof pitch is at least 5, i.e. 88mm rise per lineal metre. This will ensure adequate water run off. Below 5 may result in the roof leaking.

2. Allow for ventilation particularly at the highest point to minimise heat build-up and provide air circulation. Good ventilation will also minimise condensation in cold weather.

3. For roofing, purlin spacings should be no more than those shown in the table below. Profile Roma End Span 750mm Mid Span 750mm

*Refer to Purlin Spacing Recommendation (above) For curved structures, the maximum purlin spacing should be 750mm and the minimum radius 3000mm. For walls, nogging spacings should be no more than 900mm. Use Laserlite Noise Stop Tape on all battens, purlins or noggings to minimise the noises associated with expansion and contraction.

4. Paint all framing, corrugated metal and metal flashing directly under the sheet white to reduce heat buildup.

5. Ensure that the label side of the sheet faces to the sun. If the label has been removed, correct orientation of the ink jet marking on the side of the sheet will indicate the sun side. When installed as a wall or fence, the life of the sheet may be shortened and some discolouration may occur due to the unprotected side being exposed to UV radiation. Facing the protected side in the direction of most sun can slow this process.

6. The sheet can be cut with a fine-toothed hand saw or circular saw with a cut off-blade suitable for plastic. Extra care should be taken in cold conditions. Do not clamp the sheet.

7. In normal conditions, use the fixing spacings shown in the table below. Profile Roma End Purlins Every 2nd crest Mid Purlins Every 3rd crest

As a guide, you will need approximately 7 fixings per lineal metre. Of course this depends on your purlin spacings and wind conditions. In high wind areas fix on every second crest on each purlin. Its also a good idea to use barge capping. Fix the sheet through the crests for roofing and through the valleys for walls.

8. For roof laying start with lower sheets first, keeping side laps away from prevailing winds. Allow an overhang of not more than 100mm (50mm in high wind areas.) Temperature changes will cause expansion and contraction, so make allowances for thermal movement. Resistance to movement can cause buckling.

9. Pre-drill fixing holes to allow for expansion and contraction. Use a 10mm drill for sheets up to 4.2m long. Use a 12mm drill for sheets longer than 4.2m. Adequate expansion holes will help prevent buckling.

10. Fix the sheet through the centre of the pre-drilled holes, perpendicular to the purlins. Only tighten the fixings enough to prevent rattling. Over-tightening may cause distortion or undue stress with possible failure resulting. Use only Laserlite brand fixings and weatherseals as these are designed to be compatible with Laserlite Plus. Any failure of the sheet due to fixings other than Laserlite brand will not be covered by your warranty.

11. Side laps should be installed as shown:

12. End overlaps should be 150mm for steep pitch or 200mm for shallow pitch. Important. These instructions are designed to prevent leaking and alleviate the requirement for sealants. Sealants, especially silicone, are incompatible with polycarbonate. They will damage the sheet, restrict expansion and contraction, and void your warranty. Use the appropriate Laserlite flashings and infill strips to complete your project and help protect your outdoor entertaining areas from the weather without the need for sealants. Do not install shade cloth products beneath Laserlite Plus as this may result in excessive heat build-up causing the sheet to buckle.
