LOG YOUR HOURS for pro bono advocacy and community service! Congratulations to the hundreds of students who made the choice to begin the year with service through HOPE DAY. Over 800 hours of community service were logged by participants for their work across Miami-Dade County on August 16th. Take the HOPE pledge of performing 75 hours or more of pro bono advocacy and community service in law school. Like the UM HOPE Facebook Page! The Society of Bar & Gavel Now Accepting Nominations and Applications
The Society of Bar & Gavel is an honor society that recognizes an individual student's outstanding service and dedication to goodwill. If you know of an outstanding student leader who demonstrates B&G's four tenets of service, character, leadership, and a positive attitude, please submit a nomination form by Monday, September 9th at 5PM. Individuals may also apply for membership by submitting the application form, due Sunday, September 15th at 5PM. All forms should be e-mailed to BarAndGavel@gmail.com.
Florida Association of Women Lawyers We Can Dream Gala Friday, September 27th
Join the Miami chapter of FAWL for a gala benefitting Legal Services of Greater Miami with keynote speaker Judge Rosemary Barkett of the Eleventh
political and economic system. We seek to unite the lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers to function as an effective force in the service of the people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests. Join us for our first meeting of the semester.

The Womens Fund MiamiDade Screening of Playground O Cinema Miami Shores Wednesday, October 23rd
The Womens Fund presents a powerful film about the sexual trafficking of underage girls called Playground: the child sex trade in AMERICA . The screening will be followed by a brief panel discussion with community leaders working to eradicate the commercial sexual exploitation of children. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased at womensfundmiami.org or at the door. The film will be shown at 6:30 pm at O Cinema Miami Shores located at 9806 NE 2nd Ave, Miami Shores, FL 33138.

What is universal design in technology? Learn about the implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the requirements of law firms and the court system to provide accommodations to persons with disabilities, and the future of accessible information technology to the legal industry. a collaboration between the UM School of Business, School of Education and Human Development, and Catalyst Miami, presents a series of workshops on building strong nonprofit organizations. The first in the series is entitled New Partners, New Markets featuring speakers from the Knight Foundation. Workshops are from 8:30am-11:30am at the Newman Alumni Center, 6200 San Amaro Drive.
