Celebrating Child Rights

photography exhibition
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Convention
on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The Convention acknowledges
that every child has certain basic rights, including the right to life, to be
raised in a safe environment within a family or cultural grouping, and
to be protected from abuse or exploitation. The near-universal ratification
of the Convention reflects a global commitment to the principles of children’s rights.

Join us in celebrating this event by submitting a photo for display in our ‘Celebrating Child Rights’ Photography
Exhibition. The exhibition will follow four main themes, which represent positive outcomes achieved through the
promotion of child rights:

Survival – Children with access to basic needs such as food, shelter, water and health care.
Development – Children able to learn and grow to their full potential
Participation – Children given a voice and included in decision making
Protection – Children provided with a safe and secure environment
Despite the recognition of rights, children continue to suffer from poverty, homelessness, abuse, neglect, preventable
diseases, unequal access to education and justice systems that do not recognize their special needs. These are
problems that occur in both industrialized and developing countries.

We hope that this exhibition will encourage participants to reflect on the positive impact that can be achieved
by promoting the rights of children. In addition, the exhibition will raise funds to continue the work
of supporting child rights in poor communities overseas.
