The Millennium - A Thousand-Year Reign
Just as certainly as Jesus ascended
into heaven, He will come again (John
14:3; Acts 1:11). What
will take place after He
returns? Will there be
a millennium reign, a
thousand-year reign of
Jesus? Does the thou-
sand years include a
literal thousand-year
reign of Jesus, or is it symbolic of a peri-
od of time? Will He return as a conquering
monarch to set up a kingdom and rule
over the earth for a thousand years on
David’s throne in Jerusalem? Did Jesus
substitute the church for the kingdom of
God because the Jews rejected Him?
The passage which generates the most
discussion concerning the millennial, or
thousand-year, reign is
Revelation 20:1–10:
And I saw an angel coming down from heaven,
having the key of the abyss and a great chain
in his hand. And he laid hold of the dragon, the
serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and
bound him for a thousand years, and threw
him into the abyss, . . . so that he should not-
deceive the nations any longer, until the thou-
sand years were completed; after these things
he must be released for a short time.

The Apostles
of Christ
When Jesus established His church 2000
years ago, He could have built and organized
it all by Himself, but He chose men to be the
basic pillars for the church. Evidently, there are
only twelve names on the foundation stones of
the Church,

men of God to estab-
lished the organiza-
tional aspect of the
Church. These men
are called “Apostles of
Christ”. The roster
includes these men that Jesus, Himself, chose
from among His disciples. For any of them to
be qualified as an Apostle of Christ, he must

tion of Matthias in the upper room on
Pentecost failed to take into consideration the
fact that an apostle had to be someone hand-
picked by the Lord Himself. Matthias had been
with the Lord during His public ministry and
was an eyewitness of the resurrected Christ,
but was not directly selected by Jesus,
Act.1:15-26. Paul (Saul) was personally and
physically handpicked by Christ on the road to
Damascus in Syria. Evidently, Saul seen
Jesus in person before His death. On the road
to Damascus he eyed witness Christ after His
death. Paul then received individual training in
Arabia for two years for his mission as an
Apostle of Christ, Gal.1:17. An Apostle of
Christ must be an eye-witness of the ministry
of Christ. The most important factor of an
Apostle of Christ is that he must have seen
Christ before He died and after He rose from
the dead, Act 1: 21-22. Only Christ could have
given these twelve men this title. The most sig-
nificant seal of the Apostleship of Christ is the
eye-witness of the risen Christ. That is why no
one was given the key office of an Apostle of
Christ unless he physically interacted with
Christ after the death, burial and resurrection.
There are other qualifications listed as to the
Apostleship of Christ. Some claimed that
these were just ordinary men who were insane
with an ideology of a risen Christ. Some are
saying that we must listen to God and ignore
the words of the Apostles. Some are saying,
give me Jesus and what ever the Apostles said
should be counted worthless. I would like to
inform you that these inspired men of God
whom Jesus personally hand-picked were

given heavenly authoritative power to set
the rules for the Church. Jesus told them in
Mt. 28:18 All power is given to me in heav-
en and earth. In Mt 16:19, He told them
(the Apostles) And I will give unto thee the
keys of the kingdom of heaven (the
church): and whatsoever thou shalt bind on
earth shall be bound in heaven: and what-
soever thou shalt loose on earth shall be
loose in heaven. This was tremendous
power He gave to these men. Also, what
came with this gift is the responsibility to
control this power. They could have com-
plied with Simon Magus’ request in Act
8:18 and became millionaires.
An apostle of Christ had to have the spir-
itual gift imparted to him by Christ Himself.
These gifts were provided by Jesus Christ
before and after His ascension into
Heaven, Eph. 4:8-11. The final gift was
imparted by the Holy Spirit on the Day of
Pentecost, 1 Cor. 12:11; Acts 2. After the
ascension of Christ, the apostles were the
only ones capable to transmit this power to
fellow workers who they assigned the role
of apostles. These fellow apostles were not
capable of imparting this power to other
believers, Act 8:18. Some of these fellow
apostles, especially those whom the
Apostles of Christ laid their hands on at the
congregation in Corinth, were abusing this
power. Some believers were even making
apostolic claims in the congregation at
Ephesus. Some whom the Apostles of
Christ never laid hands on, were claiming
to have the same powers as the Apostle
Paul, 2Cor 11:11. The apostles received
his gift and office by the sovereign decision
of Christ and God the Father, 1 Cor. 1:1;
12:18; Eph. 1:1; Col. 1:1. The fellow apos-
tles received their gifts and powers from
one of the twelve Apostles of Christ. Once
they received this gift, they were not capa-
ble to impart this gift to fellow Christians.
Why were the twelve apostles given spe-
cial powers from Christ. Read Mt. 10, Mk.
16:20, And they went forth, and preached
every where, the Lord working with them,
and confirming the word with signs follow-
ing. They were commanded to confirm
their preaching with signs. The only author-
ity we have today to confirm our preaching
is the written word of God.
The Apostles of Christ
Remember, the term apostle is used in two
ways in the NT.
1. It is used in the strict sense of the twelve
men who had the actual gift of apostleship.
These men had the same powers as of
Jesus. These were hand-picked by Jesus
Himself. These received their powers
directly from Jesus. These witnessed the
risen Christ. They established the first con-
gregation in Jerusalem and had jurisdiction
over all then new congregations, 2Cor
11:28. These men were given absolute
authority over the Church.
2. It is used of men who were directly asso-
ciated with an apostle in their ministry but
were not one of the twelve, Act.14:14,
Gal.1:19. These were fellow apostles. The
first selection of such apostles were in Act
6:1-8. These were appointed only by the
Apostles of Christ. They were given limited
miraculous powers by the laying of hands

their mission. They could not impart this
miraculous gift to any other believers.
Who Are They?
Some of them were called by two different
names. Sometimes, even three names.
Peter—He was also known as Simon. His
name was changed to Cephas, meaning
“rock.” He conducted his evangelistic work
among the Jews and wrote the Books of 1
and 2 Peter. He may also have assisted in
the writing of the Gospel of Mark.
Andrew—He was Peter’s brother and
introduced Peter to Jesus (John 1:40–42).
These brothers were fishermen from
Bethsaida.
James—He was John’s brother. Both were
sons of Zebedee and Salome and worked
with their father in Bethsaida. Sometimes
called “the Greater,” James preached in
Jerusalem and Judea. He was beheaded
by Herod in A.D. 44, becoming the first
apostolic martyr.
John—He was James’ brother. Both were
fishermen, along with their father (Mark
1:19, 20). Jesus called the two brothers
“Sons of Thunder” (Mark 3:17). John
labored among the churches of Asia Minor,
especially Ephesus. In A.D. 95, he was
exiled to Patmos, where he recorded the
Revelation. His writings also include the
Gospel of John and the Epistle of 1, 2, and
3 John.
Philip—He was from Bethsaida. He told
Nathanael about Jesus (John 1:44–46).
Bartholomew—He was probably the
Nathanael of John’s Gospel Account (John
1:44–46). He was from Cana of Galilee.
Thomas—He was also called Didymus
(“the twin”) (John 11:16; 20:24; 21:2). His
home was Galilee. He is claimed by
Christians in Syria as the founder of the
church in that country; he may also have
established churches in Persia and India.
Matthew—He was also known as Levi,
son of Alphaeus (Matthew 9:9; Mark 2:14).
He was from Capernaum and served as a
tax collector for the Roman government.
James—Sometimes called “the Less,” this
James was a son of Alphaeus and Mary
(Matthew 10:3; 27:56). (Could James and
Matthew have been brothers? We do not
know.) He was from Galilee and was the
writer of the Book of James.
Thaddaeus—A son of James, this man
was also called Judas or Jude (Matthew
10:3; Luke 6:16). He was a Galilean.

What Is The Purpose Of Our Worship To God?

The worship God has prescribed is the only way we can be pleasing to Him. Worship is a time
when we pay deep, sincere, awesome respect, love, and fear to the one who created us. Acts
17:24-25 says, "God who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and
earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands, as though He needed anything, since He
gives life, breath, and all things." God is the one who holds our eternal destiny in His hands.
Philippians 2:12 tells us to, "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Our salva-
tion is a very serious matter and will not happen by accident. We must work it out "with fear
and trembling". Our salvation depends on whether our worship is pleasing to God or not. On
the Day of Judgment it will be too late to make any corrections. God does not have to have
our worship, but we must worship Him to please Him. Our singing, praying, studying His word,
giving, and communion are designed by God to bring us closer to Him and to cause us to think
more like He thinks, thus becoming more like Him. James 4:8 tells us to, "Draw near to God
and He will draw near to you." Our worship not only honors and magnifies God, but it is also
for our own edification and strength. Worship helps us develop a God-like and Christ-like char-
acter. Philippians 2:5 says, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ." How do we take
on the mind of Christ? In Romans 12:2 we read, "And do not be conformed to this world, but
be transformed by the renewing of your mind." We renew our mind as we study and meditate
on God’s word and worship Him. Colossians 3:2 to, "Set your mind on things above, and not

New Radio Program
THE BIRTH OF A NEW MEDIA
INITIATIVE
Scriptural Search Broadcast
Following the liberalization of the electronic
media in St. Vincent and the Grenadines like
many other countries; a number of FM Radio
stations emerged on the scene and with them
a proliferation of talk-radio programmes. In
spite of this development it was difficult to dis-
cuss matters of a scriptural nature on these
programmes and even where attempt were
made on a religious station they were not
entertained because the truth went against the
grain of denominational beliefs. That did not
deter me but I felt increased effort was need-
ed to get God's word to the public and yet it
needed to be somewhat innovative. So a pro-
posal was drawn up and circulated to many of
the preachers in the state asking for sugges-
tions. After approaching various FM sta-
tions and receiving a hint of assistance for
sponsorship, it was decided to go forward with
99.9 WEFM. Brother Edley Dunbar a minister
I greatly admired for his dedication and com-
mitment was asked to co-host the programme
in the event that one of us became unavail-
able for a session, the programme should not
be curtailed. I quickly found out that Edley
himself had thoughts of doing a broadcast for
a long time. We met, worked out the gener-
al format to be followed. The mission and
some vital guidelines we be adopted. At 6.00
pm on Tuesday 22nd June 2004 Scriptural
Search was born. A weekly, half-hour, Bible
discussion programme designed to: Promote
the unity of the faith of Jesus Christ;
Encourage listeners to talk about religious
beliefs and practices; and Highlight the value
of Godly living in nation building. It is not our
intention to compromise the truth; at the same
time we intend to be sensitive while being bold
for the Lord. Already we see the need to have
the time lengthened but this is still a bit of a
challenge. We have had supportive calls from
known brethren at home and abroad, genuine
calls asking questions for clarification and
hostile calls trying to oppose the forward
march of the gospel. From general feedback
on the street and in the press, we know that
Scriptural Search is beginning to have an
impact. One local televangelist has referred to
me as mad in the presence of others. In this I
rejoice, we are in good company (Acts 26:
24,25) and sincerely believe that God's word
will make a difference. We pray that God will
enable us to continue and bring him glory.

WHAT ARE YOU
COMMUNICATING?

Communication simply defined is
the process of sending and receiv-
ing information and messages.
Communication can be verbal and
non-verbal and this process can be
simple or complex. As Christian
women, what sort of communication
are we sending to our children,
brethren, the lost, workmates,
friends and our community about
our spiritual walk with Christ? We
communicate so many different
messages in so many different
ways; let's take the time to look at
two areas.
What do you communicate in
your speech? Psalms 19:14 - Let
the words of my mouth, and the
meditation of my heart, be accept-
able in thy sight, O Lord my
strength, and my redeemer. Do we
live by this rule? Are we ensuring
that everything that comes forth
from our lips is acceptable to our
Heavenly Father, or are we His chil-
dren that need to be ashamed,
because of our incessant gossiping,
complaining, false accusing, whin-
ing and nagging? If we find our-
selves submitting to the latter then
we need to follow the example of the
Proverbs 31 woman who in verse 26
'openeth her mouth with wisdom;
and in her tongue is the law of kind-
ness'. Mt. 12:34 and Luke 6:45
explains the mouth speaks out of
the abundance of what is in the
heart, be it good or evil, so let us
study to show ourselves approved
unto God, and hide His words in our
heart so as not to sin against our
Heavenly Father as we endeavor to
be an example to others in word and
in conversation. We're also encour-
aged to 'Let no corrupt communica-
tion proceed out of your mouth, but
that which is good to the use of edi-
fying, that it may minister grace to
unto hearers'(Ephesians 4:29). Let
your speech be always with grace,
seasoned with salt, that ye may

know how ye ought to answer every
man (Col. 4:6). Lie not one to anoth-
er, seeing that ye have put off the
old man with his deeds (Col. 3:9).
What do you communicate in
your manner of dressing?
I've observed with great concern
that now there is no difference in the
manner which Christians and non-
christians dress. It's like a carbon
copy of immodest attire in every
direction. As Christians we ought to
know that the same scripture, we've
heard over and over still stands. It's
the same yesterday, today and for-
ever. 1Timothy 2:9 states 'In like
manner also, that women adorn
themselves in modest apparel, with
shamefacedness and sobriety; not
with broided hair, or gold, or pearls,
or costly array'. (Read also1 Pet.
3:3-4). It's not about the grand hair-
dos or all the 'BLING BLING' and
skimpy articles of clothing that the
world has to offer. We should feel
ashamed if our clothing is short,
tight, gaudy and revealing. Romans
12:2 tells us 'And be ye not con-
formed to this world: but be ye trans-
formed by the renewing of your
mind, that ye may prove what is that
good, and acceptable and perfect
will of God'. This applies to every
aspect of our lives. We should not
let the world push us into its mold.
We are the salt of the earth, the light
of this world. The modest manner in
which we deport ourselves should
help to reflect who we are in Christ,
'women professing godliness with
good works'. (1 Timothy 2:10)
With these thoughts in mind, let
us remember Titus 2:11-12 'For the
grace of God that bringeth salvation
had appeared to all men, teaching
us that, denying ungodliness and
worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and Godly in this pre-
sent world.

heaven; therefore, He can reign only on
a throne in heaven. Heaven is the place
to which He ascended and where He
now reigns (1 Peter 3:22). Paul wrote
that the kingdom of God is not like
earthly kingdoms with eating and drink-
ing, but is a kingdom of righteousness,
peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans
14:17), a peaceable kingdom portrayed in
figurative prophecy by adversary animals
interpreted symbolically, not literally. How

can a literal key and chain bind Satan, a
spirit being? Can souls sit on literal thrones?
The whole of Revelation is steeped in sym-
bolic language. Why should this chapter be
considered an exception?
The meaning of this passage may have
begun to unfold earlier in Revelation
(6:9–11). The souls under the altar are the
same group described as being on thrones
in 20:4. They raise the question of how long
it will be until their blood will be avenged
(6:10). In response, they are told that they
must rest a little while before this will hap-
pen (6:11). Their blood is said to be avenged
(19:1, 2) with the fall of Babylon (18:2), the great
city (17:18) which was drunk with the blood of the
saints (17:5, 6, 18) and which ruled over the
