Its no secret that Nashik has slowly become Indias very own Napa valley. As many as 36 wineries dot the Nashik belt where the cabernet sauvignon and shiraz varieties of grapes are grown. Vineyards such as Sula & Grover-Zampa have put India on the sommelier map and have played a huge role in increasing awareness & acceptance about wines in India. Detailed itinerary: Day 1: Depart from Mumbai at 5:00 AM (specific pickup points will be notified), and proceed towards Nashik in a private bus. By 9:30 AM we reach our accommodation, Adiem - a compact yet spacious cottage. The beautifully designed house, which has won several accolades offers modern-day comforts and yet retains the personal touch of a boutique hotel. Breakfast buffet is served in the home-stay at 10:00 AM and we are off to the Grover-Zampa vineyards, for the Zampa stomp. The Zampa Stomp: Gorgeous winter sunshine, a spread of wines and a sweeping view of the lake below are the perfect setting for the colorful event announcing start of the harvesting season at Grover-Zampa vineyards. Some of GroverZampas award winning wines include Chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, and sparkling rose and brut. Under the beautiful shamiana and tents dotting the Sahyadri hillside, you will be part of an informative & delightful tour of the vineyards followed by wine tasting at the barrel room. Along with live music and an art exhibition, there will be a demonstration of cooking with wine, an elaborate lunch buffet by Taj, leisurely stretching in the afternoon sun with an easy flow of wines and grape stomping. The event is expected to go on till 5:00 PM. After the event is over, we retire back to our cozy home-stay where Madhu, our generous host has arranged for a campfire and a barbeque dinner. Note: This event is exclusively an invite only event but we have convinced the management of Grover Zampa to allow our group of 12-15 people to attend the same. Info about grape stomping: It was originally carried out by women during the earlier days as a traditional method of winemaking wherein grapes were crushed by foot in vats to release their juices and begin fermentation. This was practiced in order to avoid crushing of seeds from within the grape since womens feet are considered soft and mild. Day 2: Wake up next morning, freshen up and have a light breakfast at the home-stay. By 11:00 AM checkout from the home-stay and bid adieu to Madhu and her fabulous team at Adiem. Sula Vineyards: No tour of Nashik is complete without visiting the mecca of wines in India Sula. Spread over 30 acres and another 1800 acres in Dindori where the bulk of grapes are grown, Sula has come to dominate the Indian wine market with a commanding 60% market share. Some of the popular Sula wines are chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, and zinfandel. The wine tasting tours & a tour of the winery starts at 11:00 AM. We have lunch at Sula and post which we leave for Mumbai and reach the city by 8:00 PM. ` 6000 per person
