by
Tom Lehrer
‘The subversive songs of Tom Lehrer, the mathematics teacher and
sage who gave us ‘Be Prepared’, ‘Poisoning Pigeons in the Park’
and other family favourites, have corrupted millions of people and
been totally ignored by millions more.
The global dissemination of his dubious threnodies over the past
few decades may be blamed on his record albums and live
performances and, more recently, on the stage revue, Tomfoolery,
which was spawned in London in 1980 and has since spread to
many other Lehrer-speaking countries.
This unnecessarily comprehensive collection of his songs includes
the words and music (including piano accompaniments and guitar
chords) of most of the songs from his three record albums, Songs by
Tom Lehrer, An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer, and That Was the
Year That Was, as well as three additional songs.
