Aum, and thus everything came into existence.

Music, the sonoric event between noise and silence is considered to be divine by many ancient cultures and its said to be a 'way of knowing'. It sooths the body, soul and mind which otherwise can only be attained by the art of meditation. Plato, the philosopher and a polymath said "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the unwise, wings to the mind, flight to thoughts and charm and gaiety to life and to everything". Music is said to be the life-giver and life-charmer and It is omnipotent and omnipresent. Indian music is and was Spiritual inspiration, Cultural expression and Pure entertainment and thus earned a very important and divine place in the history of world music people, it was even one of the key role players in the moulding of the world music that is today. All the Sound/Music in this world came into existence from the very basic sound 'AUM', the very essence of the Universe. In India, music is considered to be the favourite past-time of the gods. Though, Every ancient civilization knew about music, The Indus people knew a little more than any, by knowing the art of sound and that was made into 'Mandukya Upanishad', in which everything about the divine syllable 'AUM' is described along side with connection of sound and the creation of life Indian traditional music, Hindustani and Carnatic has influenced and is been influencing the world music directly or indirectly. International legends like John Lennon and David Gilmour attributed the beauty and rhythm of their music directly to Indian Raga. Since ages, not only did the world music get influenced by Indian music, but even the vice-versa was happend unfolding 'The Symbiosis of Music'. Indian music has evovled a lot through the ages, through itself and others, mainly the persians in the past and the english and the american in the present. The most popular of music in present India is 'Filmi Music', which is very much influenced and inspired from the World music. Yet, it has still retained its traditional roots in most of its music. India's distinct flavour and perfection in music can still be seen in all of its works even being created now. None the less, India has embraced a lot from the music of other countries giving rise to a number of local rock bands, like parikrama and also the people of india are learning to get used to and enjoy a lot more of other music. A.R. Rahman is considered to be a pioneer in the present scene of Indian music, placing him in the list of the greatest international music composers of his time. Indian music has inspired the various styles of world music a lot from the ancient time and basically in the last century. Sri sri Ravi Shankar played a huge role in spreading the indian music and ragas and mainly the angel-like music created by the 'Sitar' to the world audience. Jazz, Psychedelic rock and Raga rock where some of the popular world music that took shape and style from the indian music and intruments like the guitar and the drums were directly inspired from the traditional indian music instruments. Jazz got its beauty, grace, and unique melodic phrasing from the Indian music. Most of the Jazz composers were into yoga, meditation and were spiritual like the creators and composers of Indian music. Psychedelic Rock of the 60's and 70's was inspired a lot from the tune and rhythm of the Indian music. The 1960's hit single of

The Yardbirds 'Heart full of soul', made use of the Indian traditional Sitar. From around 1965 the world was introduced to a new hybrid genre called 'Raga Rock' which was directly derived from the Indian 'Raga'. In 1980's Raga Rock exploded the scene of music on the world stage and Ashwin Bhatt was one of the pioneers in it then. Indian music, with its mix of Spirituality and Raga, inspired most of the popular world music and made its mark as one of the most inspired to create and enjoy various kinds of music. Indians took the world music to a new level of conciousness in their own way creating some of the best of the world music. Music is considered to be the beginning, duration, and dissolution of the universe and vaguely, Indian music is considered to be the mother of all the world music. Music is said to be the rhythm of the heartbeat of the whole universe, indirectly representing what we call the 'GOD', its even said that music is the way of the nature to communicate with all the beings. Pythagoras, the great philosopher and mathematician representing this godliness of music through his saying,There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres. So Music is respected not only in india but also in the world in different ways and styles. India, at present is adopting many new styles and fusion genres from the world music but also at the same time keeping up its respect as the pioneers in the 'art of music' and more specifically in the spiritual and melodious music. Let's give this edition, as a tribute to the past and present indian music for its important role it played in the world music and hope you all accept and embrace this aweome piece of magazine named 'Wings of voice', because music is something more than what meets the ear.
