The course will present the principles of product development and innovation and its application in the industry, innovation in the context of strategic management and leadership, total quality management as innovation strategy, product development process, innovation models and processes, product innovation management, innovation strategies and product life cycle. The course will give the students an opportunity to expand their knowledge through individual and group tasks focusing on product development and innovation. Their critical thinking abilities will also be honed through guided discussions and synthesis of learning. LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of the course, the students will be able to: (a) Discuss the principles of product development, innovation and total quality management and their applications in the industry. (b) Explain the importance of leadership and strategic management in innovation and product management. (c) Identify the most appropriate innovation model and strategy for local SMEs. (d) Elucidate product life cycle and its importance in innovation and product management. (e) Develop an innovation plan.
