EWSD Digital Line Unit

1.1 Introduction

The DLU is used as a digital concentrator for the connection of subscribers to the EWSD.

Connectivity :

Analog connectivity is for :

• Main station lines with pulse dialing, pushbutton dialing, call charge display
• Coinbox telephones
• Small analog private branch exchanges with/without direct-inward-dialing Digital
connectivity is for :
• ISDN Basic Accesses
• Small digital private branch exchanges
• Connection of an access network (AN ) via V5.1 interface

Connection capacity and expansion possibility of a DLU

Depending on used module types and required traffic volume :

• up to approx. 900 analog subscriber lines or

• up to approx. 800 digital subscriber lines (ISDN BA)
• up to 32 V5.1 interfaces
• Misture of analog subscibers, digital subscribers and V5.1 interfaces in view of the fact
that max. 120 calls can be held simultaneously

Expansion in small modular steps :

• Each with an analog subscirber line module (SLMA for 16 subscribers)

• Each with an digital subscriber line module (SLMD for 16 subscribers)
• Each with a subscriber line module (SLMX) for two V5.1 interfaces with 32

Structure of the DLU interface to LTG :

• The DLU can be used locally in the exchange or remotely in the vicinity of the
subscriber. All features are regardless of whether the DLU is operated locally or
remotely.
• The DLU is connected to the LTG by a maximum of four primary digital carriers
(PDC), whereas a DLU is linked with two LTG as a rule for reasons of availability. It
is also possible to connect the local DLU to the LTG by two 4096 Kbps routes instead
of four 2Mbps routes.
• Each of the max. 4 PDC offers 30 use channels (each 4 Mb/s interface offers 60 user
channels)
• Each use channel can be used by any subscriber of the DLU
• Common channel signaling (CCS) :

Channel 16 in the first and third PDC is used for the transmission of control information
messages between the DLU and the line/trunk groups (LTG).

Here channel 16 on the first PDC transmits the control information messages for the 60
user channels to PDC 0 and 1, and channel 16 on the third PDC the control information
messages for the user channels to PDC2 and 3.

For the local DLU interface, channel 32 on both 4096-kbps connections is used for CCS.

• The specific HW-type DLUV provides only one PDC per LTG, i.e. a maximum of 60
user channels.

1.2 Overview : DLU HW Types

Since the first issue of a DLU the frame and rack hardware was redesigned several times
in order to optimize the DLU HW concerning the required size and the number of
connected subscriber lines.

DLU A :

This is the oldest DLU HW type. It contains SLM modules with max. 8 subscriber circuits
( e.g. SLMA : COS or SLMDB ). One fully equipped DLU A is housed in one rack
R : DLU. A maximum of 952 analog or 928 digital subscribers with a traffic volume of 0.1
ERL each can be connected to a DLU A. One DLU A can consist of:

• 1 frame F:DLU (A)

• 0,1,2 or 3 frames F:DLU(B) depending on the number and the traffic volume of the
subscribers

DLU B :

This is the DLU HW type currently used in most EWSD switches. It contains SLM
modules with max. 16 subscriber circuits (e.g. SLMA:FPE or SLMD:QFB) or SLMX for
connection of V5.1 interfaces. Two fully equipped DLU B are housed in one rack
R:DLUB. A maximum of 1760 analog or 1536 digital subscribers with a traffic volume of
0.1 ERL each can be connected to a rack R:DLUB. One DLU B can consist of:

• 1 frame F:DLU(D)
• 0 or 1 frame F:DLU(E) depending on the number and the traffic volume of the
subscribers (alternatively frame F:DLU(F) for less high construction )

DLU D (also called DLU B type D) :

This is the latest DLU HW type. The main difference to the DLUB is a new more
integrated solution for the central parts of the DLU. This offers mounting locations for 4
additional SLMA:FPE modules or for transmission technology to connect one or several
remote DLU to EWSD. One DLU D can consist of :

• 1 frame F : DLU(G)

• 0 or 1 frame F:DLU(E) depending on the number and the traffic volume of the
subscribers (alternatively frame F:DLU(F) for less high construction)

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

DLU V

The new DLU type DLUV can be used as an alternative to SLMX in the standard DLU.
Access networks can be connected to a DLUV exclusively by V5.1 interfaces (max. 10
*V5.1 per DLUV). The maximal 30 *10 subscribers are concentrated to up to 60 user
channels.

One DLUV consists of one module only. One frame F:DLUV(A) can containe up to 16
DLUV. This frame can be housed in LTGM or LTGN racks.

• Signal distribution

Communication with the central and peripheral functional units of the DLUD is realized
by means of the bus distributors BD using the duplicated bus systems 0/1. The DLU bus
systems consist of:

4096-kbps buses (speech/data buses)

The 4096-hbps buses 0/1 transmit speech/data information between the SLM and the
DIUD/LDI

Control buses
The control buses 0/1 carry control information, i.e. line signals and commands from the
DLUC to the SLM, line signals and messages in the other direction.

Collision detection buses

The duplicated collision detection bus is used for control purposes when packetized*.25
data is transmitted over the D channel of the ISDN basic access.

• Ringing and metering generators (optional ,required only for special SLMA types)

The RGB generates the required sinusoidal ringing voltages and the synchronizing ring
pulse in the DLUB for analog subscriber line circuits with external ringing voltage.

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001

failures ) to the network node.

Stand-alone service control (SASC-E) controls during emergency service in the DLU call
setup and release for analog and ISDN subscribers (single remote DLU or remote control
unit (RCU) ) and enables DTMF dialing for push-button users.

• Test equipment

The test unit (TU) can be used to perform tests and measurements of lines and line circuit
modules. It is not needed in cases where exclusive use is made of the integrated line test
function ILTF.

The metallic test access (MTA) allows external line testing systems to access the analog
lines connected to the DLUB.

• Control for DLU (DLUC)

The control for DLU (DLUC) controls internal DLU functional sequences and distributes
or concentrates signaling flows to and from the line circuits. To ensure reliability and to
increase through put, the DLU contains two DLUC. They work independently of each
other in task-sharing mode, so that the second DLUC can take control of all tasks if the
first fails. The DLUC is the point of departure for the DLU-internal control bus to the
shelves. All functional units that incorporate their own microprocessor are accessed via
this bus. The units are polled for messages to be sent and accessed directly for the transfer
of commands and data. The DLUC also executes test and supervision routines and is thus
able to detect errors.

• Digital Interface Units

Digital interface unit for DLU (DIUD): The DIUD has two interfaces for connecting
two PCM30 (PCM24) highways or primary digital carriers (PDC). The PDC link the DLU
with LTGB, LTGF(B), LTGG(B), LTGM(B) or LTGN(B); PCM24 is not used with
LTGM(B).Balanced-pair or coaxial cables can be connected.
Digital interface unit for local DLU interface, module D (DIU:LDID) :The DIU:LDID
has one 4096-kbps interface for the connection of a locally deployed DLU to LTGF(B),
LTGG(B), LTGM(B) or LTGN(B). Balanced-pair copper cable is used. When the
DIU:LDID is employed, the contents of 60 speech/data channels and one CCS signaling
link are carried over a single 4096-kbps highwy (instead of two PCM30 highways).
The DIUD reads the control information from channel 16 of a PDC and forwards it to the
DLUC. In the opposite direction, control information from the DLUC is inserted in
channel 16 of the same PDC and sent to the LTG.
In the cases of DIU:LDID, signaling is carried in channel 32. There is no need for
conversion from 2048-kbps to 4096-kbps.
In addition, the DIUD and DIU:LDID provide interfaces to the DLU-internal 4096-kbps
bus for the shelves. This 4096-kbps bus is used to distribute speech/data information to the
subscriber line modules (SLM) and to receive information from the SLM.

A signal for synchronizing the clock generator is derived from the PDC’s line clock. To
detect errors, the DIUD and DIUD:LDID execute test and supervision routines. When a
remote DLU is operating in stand-alone mode (because all connections to both LTG have
failed), the DIUD generates call progress tones (dial tone, ringing tone and busy tone).
These tones are injected inot the 4096-kbps bus via the PDC interface. In stand-alone
mode, the transmit and receive channels have a fixed setting (loopback of the speech/data
channels).

Stand-alone service is not provided for locally deployed DLU. In such cases, the
DIU:LDID does not inject tones or loop back the channels.

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

• Group Clock Generator (GCG)

The group clock generator (GCG) generates the 4096-khz system clock and the associated
frame synchronization signal required for the DLU from the regenerated 2048-khz line
clock timing of PDC0 or PDC2 and the frame alignment signal (FAS). Tp emsire
dependability, the group clock generator is duplicated. The two GCG operate according to
the master/slave principle. Normally, the clock generator designated as master is active,
while the slave generator is in standby mode. The master clock genertor defines the
timing signals for both DLU system. If the master clock generator fails, the system
switches over to the slave generator, which then also defines the timing signals for both
DLU systems. The clock generator can aslo be switched over by the operator (switch on
the front panel of GCG1).

• Signal Distribution in the DLU

The bus distributor (BD) links the subscriber line modules (SLM) with the central
functional units DLUC and DIUD or DIU:LDID in the DLU system. Each BD is assigned
to one DLU system half as regards the control bus, 4096-kbps bus and collision detection
bus.
Central and peripheral functional units communicate over a duplicated bus sustem. Bus
system 0 is used to transfer data in DLU system 0 with the aid of bus distributors BDO
and BD2. Bus system 1 is used to transfer data is DLU system 1 with the aid of bus
distributors BD1 and BD3. Each BD serves 32 SLM.

Control buses
The control buses carry control infromation, i.e. customer line signaling and commands
from the DLUC to the SLM, customer line signals and messages in the other direction.
The control buses operate at a bit rate of 187.5 kbps in both direction, with an effective
data rate of about 136 kbps. Control buses 0 and 1 originate at DLUC0 and DLUC1
respectively. A DLUC has four interfaces (one for each possible shelf) at which the control
lines to the BD in the shelves originate. After the BD, the control bus fans out in groups to
the mounting locations for those functional units that contain mecroprocessors. Both
control buses, 0 and 1, extend to every mounting location in the shelves, enabling the
second bus to serve all mounting locations if the first should fail. In the BD, the signals are
regenerated and either fanned out again to other outputs to the periphery or, in the case of
signals originating at the periphery, concentrated onto fewer lines.

4096-kbps buses
The 4096-kbps buses carry speech/data information to and from the SLM. Each bus has 64
channels in each direction. Each channel opertes at a bit rate of 64 kbps (64*64 kbps=4096
kbps). There is a fixed assignment between the channels of the 4096-kbps buses and the
channels of the PDC, determined through the DIUD or DIU:LDID. The 4096-kbps buses
0 and 1 originate at DIUD0 and DIUD1 (DIU:LDID0/1) respectively. A DIUD has four
interfaces (one for each possible shelf) at which the lines to the BD in the shelves
originate. In the shelf, the information flowing over each of the two bus systems 0/1 is
delivered to all mounting locations for SLM via the BD. This means that every SLM can
be reached by either of the two DLU systems. The signals traveling over the buses are
synchronized with the clock.

Collision detection buses

The collision detection bus is duplicated and runs parallel to the 4096-kbps bus. It is only
relevant for SLMD or SLMX, preventing simultaneous accesses to the BD-channel. A
time slot is fixed on the 4096-kbps bus for the Bd- channel.

• Analog Subscriber Line Modules (SLMA)

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

SLMA:FPE
The subscriber line module SLMA:FPE the DLUB and DLUD contains 16 analog
subscriber line circuits and one common control unit with the processor (SLMCP). The
SLMA:FPE does not require an RGB or MGB; these functions are implemented on the
modules themselves (exception:the SLMA:FPE with external ringing does require an RGB
for injection of unbalanced ringing).
The SLMA:FPE replaces the previous SLMA for ordinary subscribers e.g. subscriber line
modules:

for ordinary subscribers (SLMA:COS) with eight subscriber line circuits with silent
reversal for coinbos telephones (SLMA:CSR) with four subscriber line circuits.

with 12-khz/16-khz meter pulse injection (SLMA:CMRL), hard reversal and loop oped
with six subscriber line circuits.

The ILTF-SLMA replaces the standard SLMA:FPE and the Test Unit (TU). The functions
otherwise performed by the TU are implemented in the subscriber line circuits (ILTF-
SLCA) of the SLMA. In other words, each line circuit ILTF-SLCA performs self-tests and
tests the line and subscriber terminal.

Two varants of the ILTF-SLMA can be used:

-Subscriber Line Module, Analog, with ILTF, no classical MTA (SLMA:ITF)

-Subscriber Line Module, Analog, with ILTF, for classical MTA (SLMA:ITM)

The TU is still required in cases where subscribers have special ports or where the variant
SLMA:FPE with external ringing generation (i.e. by the RGB) is employed.

SLMA with special functions :

for direct inward dialing (SLMA:DID ) with eight subscirber line circuits (loop singaling)

for two party lines (SLMA:TPL) with four subscriber line circuits for connecting eight
subscribers via front-end relay (secrecy box)

for emergency telephone (SLMA:FPS) with four subscriber line circuits

for direct inward/outward dialing (SLMA:DIOD) with four subscriber line circuits pulse
signaling)

• Ringing Generator (RGB)

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

For analog subscriber line modules (SLMA) that require external ringing or
synchronization pules, up to two ringing generators (RGB) are ised. The SLMA are
accessed directly by the RGB in a star configuration. No RGN is necessary for subscriber
line modules with internal ringing (e.g. SLMA:FPE) generation. The RGB also supply
ringing voltage to the test unit (TU) is shelf 0, if installed.

• Metering Generator (MGB)

The metering generator (MGB) consists of a direct current converter connected in series
with a sine-wave generator and provides metering pluses for analog subscriber line
modules (SLMA) with external metering systems (e.g. SLMA:TPL). The SLMA:FPE does
not require an MGB.
The MGB provides the metering pulses for the SLMA in shelf 1 (max). 15 SLMA) only.

• Extension module, V5.1 interface (SLMX)

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

The extension module, V5.1 interface (SLMX) is used to connect non-system hardware
(Access network (AN)) to the DLU. The SLMX services two V5.1 interfaces (V51 IF).
These interfaces correspond electrically to the PCM interface of the DIU (2048 kbps as
per ETSI).

The following subscriber configurations are possible for each V5.1 interface:

ISDN subscriber/PBX with 1B channel= > max. 30 subscribers

ISDN subscriber/PBX with 2 B channels = > max. 15 subscribers

PSTN with 1B channel = > max. 30 subscribers

Of the 32 timeslots on the V5 link, a maximum of 30 are used as user channels. Timeslot 0
is used for frame synchronization, and the control protocol and, if nothing else is defined,
the signaling run in timeslot 16. For V51 IF on the DLU, channels 15 and 31 can be used
in addition to channel 16 as signaling channels or as a channels for packet data. These
channels (16,15 and 31) are designated as Communication Channels (C channels). This
can reduce the number of user channels to 28.

From the system side (DLU) the SLMX obtains the normal DLU interfaces to the two
4096-kbps buses and collision detection buses of DLU side 0 and 1 and to control buses 0
and 1.

A switching matrix chip allocates the timeslots of the V5.1 interfaces to the 4096-kbps
buses.

The HDLC controller provides up to three Communication Channels per V5.1 interface
between the SLMX and AN.

• Test Equipment

Test Unit (TU)

The test unit (TU) is used to carry out tests and measurements on subscriber lines
(comprising the line termination, the subscriber line and the subscriber line circut).
The test unit TU consists of two modules :
function test module of test unit (FMTU) line
circuit measuring module (LCMM)
Tests must be initiated by the operator using the operation and maintenance terminal
(OMT/BCT). The following can be teste :
analog line circuits
analog lines and terminals
feed to digital subscribers
digital lines
The TU can measure voltage, current, resistance and capacitance; timing can also be
evaluated in the case of voltage and current measurement.

Metallic Test Access (MTA)

The metallic test access (MTA) allows external line testing systems to access the analog
subscriber lines connected to a DLU.
There are two MTA variants :
test access and signaling via a common interface (MTA A)
separate measuring and control interfaces (MTA B)

• Power supply in the DLU

The power supply in the DLU is decentralized. Various types of current converters DCC
are ised to feed the subscriber line modules.

The SLMX does not require a DCC as it is powered directly with- 48V/-60V.

The direct current converters generate the dc voltages required by the SLM from the
exchange voltage -48 V/-60 V. The current converters DCC.. have the following voltage
values :

DCCCR-48 V/-60 V to +12 V,-12V,+5V,-5V

1..3.4 Functional Units for Remote Operation of DLUB and DLUD

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

• Emergency operation for remote DLU and RCU

A DLU operates in emergency service if it can not communicate with at least one LTG via
a PDC with common channel seganling (CCS), e.g. in the event of total failure of the links
to the LTG. The stand-alone service control module (SASC-E) handles signaling and
speech paths from DLU to DLU (maximum of six DLU in a remote control unit (RCU) or
users within a remote DLU. During emergency service for a remote DLU the SASC-E
allows connected subscribers to set up connections to and from each other (internal DLU
traffic). In emergency sevice for pushbutton subscriber in the DLU the SASC-E activates
the tone receivers to facilitate DTMF dialing. Emergency operation does not entail any
major limitations for the subscriber on the DLU.
The stand -alone service control SASC-E replaces the former emergency control (SASC)
and the emergency service equipment for pushbutton subscribers (EMSP). Depending on
the application program system (APS), the former SASC and EMSP modules can continue
to be use.

For stand-alone service of the DLU within an RCU a distinction is made between:

Failure of the links between RCU and network node

In the event of failure of the links between RCU and network node, the SASC-E of the
DLU control call setup in the RCU and also internally in each associated DLU. During
emergency service, all subscribers connected to the RCU can communicate with each
other.

Failure of the links from one or more DLU in an RCU to the network node
In the event of failure of both PDC (with CCS) of one or more DLU in an RCU to the
network node, the subscribers connected to the affected DLU can communicate with each
other in emergency service ; the subscribers connected to the other DLU in the RCU
continue to have normal service.

An Stand-alone service control SASC-E contains :

an interface for up to five interconnecting links to other DLU in an RCU

a channel assignment unit

an interface to 4096-kbps nerworks 0 and 1 and to control networks 0 and 1

a control section with CNP and SASCP

a code receiver processor (CRP) for pushbutton subscribers of DLU

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

The main functions of the SASC-E in emergency service are:

controlling call setup and release for subscribers within one DLU

controllinc call setup release for subscribers in other DLU of an RCU

ending stand-alone service when the connection between one DLUC and the network node
has been reestablished
checking the database, updating it where neccessary (after transition to normal mode)

performing internal hardware routine tests and some supervisory functions (the same
supervisory functions performed in normal mode)

controlling the code receivers.

• Alarm Handling

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

The external alarm set (ALEX) is used to forward external alarms (e.g. power failure) to
the network node. Since, in the case of a remote DLU, it is not possible to connect system-
external alarms to the system panel control (SYPC), the external alarm set module
(ALEX) is used.

The functions of the ALEX are to :

identify, store and evaluate the state of up to 16 alarm contacts

exchange data with DLUC0 and DLU1

test its own firmware and end communication with the DLUC if a firmware error is
detected

test its own hardware and report the detection of hardware faults

• Transmission technology in the DLUD

The DLUD can be equipped with separate transmission devices. The optical or electrical
link can be used to connect the remote DLU to the network node or to create a
transmission network with further remote units. For a transmission capacity of 2 Mbps to
34 Mbps, the following functional units can be used in the DLUD:

Optical Terminal Multiplexer for 16*2 Mbps (OMX16D)

The OMX16D is a multiplexer which concentrates 16*2 Mbps signals to 34 Mbps. For
transmission on optical fiber (OF), the 34 Mbps signals are converted into an LWL line
code (36 Mbps). The monomode optical fibers permit bi-directional data transmission with
little loss and operate reliaby up to a link length of approximately 30 km.

Line/network terminal for optical fiber (LTOD)

The LTOD facilitates 2*2 Mbps line access to optical fibers. The LTOD operates on the
bases of the wave length multiplex method and uses one line for both transmission
directions. A distance of approximately 30 km can be reached with the LTOD.

Line/network terminal for copper cable (LTCD)

The LTCD facilitates 2*2 Mbps line access to copper cable. The LTCD for copper cable
uses a line code of 2B1Q in accordance with HDSL (High-bit rate digital subscriber line).
For bi-directional 2 Mbps transmission (in accordance with ETSI), 2-pair copper cabnle is
required. A distance of approximately 2.5 up to 12 km (depending on the line diameter of
0.4 up to 1.4 mm) can be reached with the LTCD.

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

The interface for transmission devices to the DIU component on the DLU is balanced in
accordance with CCITT recommendation G.703. The transmission devices LTOD, LTCD,
OMX16D obtain the required direct current (+5v) via the current converters (DCC).

The functional units of the DLUB are implemented by means of a number of moduless.
These modules are accommodated in shelves. Each shelf is subdivided into a left and a
right half shelf (seen facing the module side of the module frame).

• Basic frame F:DLU(D)

In the basic frame, the following modules are provided as basic equipment :

two DLU controls DLUC0/1

two digital interface units DIUD 0/1 or DIU:LDID0/1

two bus distributors BD0/1

one test unit TU comprising FMTU and LCMM

The TU is also used if only SLMD are installed. If only SLMX are installed, the TU is not
needed. In the basic equipment, two current converters, type DCCDC, are provided in
shelf 0 (one DCCCR may also be sufficient if no SLMA or TU are installed in this half
shelf).

• Estension frame F:DLU(F) (extension frame with one shelf only, used e.g. for smaller
racks in container exchanges)
In the extension frame, two bus distributors BD2/3 are provided in each case as basic
equipment. In the extension frame F:DLU(F), both bus distributors (BD2/3) are intalled in
the right half shelf.

• The DLUB may also contain different equipment depending on whether it is intended
for local or remote use. For remote use, additional modules can be installed (SASC-E,
ALEX).These modules are installed in place of SLM (see figures for module frames).
The maximum number of subscriber lines that can be connected to a DLUB is reduced
when special modules are used e.g. SASC-E ALEX.

extended applicatopm (max. SLM equipping in shelf 0), a DCCDQ is plugged in to
provide the necessary performance.

• Extension frame F:DLU(E), F:DLU(F)

In the extension frame, two bus distributors BD2/3 are provided in each case as basic
equipment. In the extension frame F:DLU(F), both bus distributors (DB2/3) are installed
in the right half shelf.

• The F:DLU(G) can be equipped differently depending on whether it is in a local or

remote DLU. For the remote DLU additional modules are necessary : SASC-E,
possibly ALEX (in shelter DLU : alarm indication via the ALEX function on the
DLUS). The modules are used instead of an SLM. The SASC-E occupies a slot for
SLM. The maximum number of subscriber lines which can be connected to a DLUD
decreases when special modules are used e.g. SASC-E or special SLMA (with up to 8
ports)

• The line termination device LTOD or LTCD occupy a slot for SLM. The terminal
multiplexers OMX16D are plugged into the SLM intermediate position.

• The DLUV is used to connect ten V5.1 interfaces to the AN. Up to four DLUV can be
plugged into the SLM intermediate position in the F:DLU(G) ; only the-48 or -60 V
power supply is used here. The DLUV is a separate DLU and has no logical
connection to the DLUD.

2.1 Creation of DLU

The DLU is created by the command CR DLU.

The parameter SHELF contains the identification of the type DLU.

DLUB : SHELF = B

DLUD : SHELF = D

CR DLU : DLU = 10,20,......,2550,

SHELF =D
[,DLUC0 = <TS> - <LTG>- <LTU1> - <LTU2>]
[,DLUC1 = <TS> - <LTG> - <LTU1> - <LTU2>];

By the parameters DLUC0 and DLUC1 you assign up to 2 PDC per DLUC each leading
to an LTU position in an LTG (one LTG per DLUC).

With help of the command CR DLU the following modules in the DLUD are
automatically created :

DLUB : DLUC/DIUD MOD = 0-5/0-6 and 0-10/0-9

DLUD : DLUS MOD = 0-7 and 0-8 in shelf 0

The SASC has to be created as a DLU module

CR DLUMOD : DLU = ...., TYPE = SASC;

Afterwards you have to define, which DLU belong to the RCU

CR RCU : RCU = <rcu>,

RCUMBR=<dlu> - <mbr> &.....& <dlu> - <mbr>;

Modification, i.e. extension or reduction of the emergency cluster can be done by

2.4 Configuration, Test and Diagnosis for DLU

2.4.1 General Meaning of Operational State OST

ACT Sub-unit is in operation

(active)

STB Sub-unit is ready for operation if the according

duplicated (standby) sub-unit gets faulty

CBL Sub-unit is prepared by the operator for being

blocked from (conditionally blocked) mainteneance - no further call set ups are
accepted via the sub-unit

MBL Sub-unit is blocked by the operator, diagnostic can

now (maintenance blocked) be started

NAC Sub-unit cannot be used because higher ranking unit

is not (not accessible) in operation

UNA Sub-unit is faulty and therefore out of srvice, no

diagnostic (unavailable) is possible, after fault clearance the
sub-unit has to be reactivated by the operator

PLA Sub-unit is created in the database, but no higher

ranking (planned) unit tries to use this sub-unit -no diagnostic is
possible; initial state after creation and
precondition for deletion

TIP

The current OST of any sub-unit may be displayed by using a STAT-CMD.

2.4.2 DLU States in Printouts of STAT Command

In STAT-CMD printouts for DLU there is made a difference between the semipermanent
and the transient state.

• Semipermanent State: OST

“should be” state, only changed by CONF-CMD

this state is not altered by the sfeguarding SW

• Transient State : ACCESS DEGARDING

real current state supervised and altered by the sfeguarding SW the access degrading
informs you, if a DLU sub-unit with OST=ACT is working properly

2.4.4 Remarks for CONF Comman

Configuration of the DLU System

An active DLU system may be configured to MBL for maintenance only by way of CBL.
As long as the DLU is CBL, no new calls are accepted, but existing calls are retained. If
the state of the DLU system is DST or the LTG has an operating state other than
ACT/CBL, the system can be configured directly to MBL. In these cases no STARTED
message is issued and no warning is given. There is no such warinig on configuration to
ACT either.

Example :

Configure DLU system 0 from ACT to CBL and then to MBL (LTG=ACT/CN;).

Input

CONF DLU =dlu, DLUC0 = Y, OST =CBL;

Display on screen: STARTED

After configuration to CBL wait approx. 6 minuts, so that calls that ae currently in
progress can be terminated. In 6 minutes approximately 90 % of the existing calls will be
cleared down. Then configure to MBL. However, if the response EXEC’D is issued before
the 6 minutes have expired, all calls are cleared down and configuration to MBL can tke
place immediately.

Enter the following MML-command:

CONF DLU: DLU =dlu , DLUC0=Y,OST =MBL;

If an attempt was made to configure the system to MBL before the EXEC’D message for
the configuration to CBL had appeared, the following message is issued:

CAUTION: THIS SWITCHOVER-REQUEST MAY RESULT

Configuring the DLU Equipment

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

The DLU equipment comprises the direct current converter modules DCC and the ringing
generator modules RGB. In the operating state MBL the RGB still permits ringing, but it
is no longer supervised by the routine test.

Enter one of the following MML commands:

for RGB:

CONF DLU=dlu, RGB = rgb, OST = ost:

DLUEQ:

for DCC:

The DCC is only configured at the time of installation.

This configuration command is not required for maintenance.

CONF DLU = dlu, DCC = dcc, OST = ost ;

DLUEQ:

for RGB:

CONF DLUEQ : DLU=dlu, RGB = rgb, OST = ost ;

for DCC:

CONF DLUEQ : DLU=dlu, DCC = dcc, OST = ost ;

Configuration of the DLU Modules

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

Configuring a module is different form configuring a module range. A module range

consists of at least 2 module addresses.

Example:

Enter MML command in order to configure from ACT to CBL and then to MBL:

CONF DLUMOD : DLU = dlu, MOD = shf-mod , OST = CBL;

Output on screen : STARTED

Enter the following MML command;

CONF DLUMOD : DLU = dlu, MOD = shf-mod & shf-mod, OST =MBL;

This results in the following output:

CAUTION: THIS SWITCHOVER-REQUEST MAY RESULT

IN LOST CALLS!
DO YOU WANT IT TO BE EXECUTED? (YES: +/NO:-)<

Warning on configuring DLU modules to MBL

Enter plus sign for YES:

Output on screen EXEC’D

If a module or a module range has the state ACCESS DEGRADATION=DST for both
sides, it is possible to configure directly to MBL. No warning is issued with this
configuration.

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

Modules not used for switching operations (e.i. ALEX, TU or MTA modules), can be
configured directly from ACT to MBL.

For most of the DLU modules it is also necessary to configure the ports:
CONF DLUPORT : DLU=dlu, LC=shf-mod-port, OST=ost;

it is possible to configure with one command a range of ports.

CONF DLUMOD : DLU=dlu, MOD=SHF-MOD, OST=CBL;

Output on screen: STARTED

Enter the following MML command:

CONF DLUMOD : DLU=dlu, MOD=SHF-MOD& shf-mod, OST=MBL;

This results in the following output:

CAUTION: THIS SWITCHOVER-REQUEST MAY RESULT

IN LOST CALLS!
DO YOU WANT IT TO BE EXECUTED? (YES: +/NO:-)<

Enter plus sign for YES:

Output on screen execd’D

CONF DLUPORT : DLU = dlu, LC = shf - mod - port, OST = ost;

Expansion in small modular steps :

• Each with an analog subscriber line module (SLMA for 16 subscribers )

• Each with an digital subscriber line module (SLMD for 16 subscribers)

• Each with a subscriber line module (SLMX) for two V5.1 interfaces with 30
subscribers each (access network -AN)

Note :

The New DLU type DLUV can be used as an alternative to SLMX in the standard DLU.
Access networks can be connected to a DLUV exclusively by V5.1 interfaces (max. 10

3.2 Connecting Capability of the DLU to EWSD

The DLU is connected to the LTG by a maximum of four primary digital carriers (PDC),
whereas a DLU is linked with two LTG as a rule for reasons of availability. As an
exception the HW type DLUV provides up to two PDC which may be regarded as PDC0
and PDC2 in the following text.

The DLU can be used locally in the exchange or remotely in the vicinity of the subscriber.

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

It is possible to connect the local DLUB to the LTG by two 4096 kbps routes intstead of
four 2Mbps routes.

All features are regardless of whether the DLUB is operated locally or remotely.

• Common channel signaling (CCS)

Channel 16 in the first and third PDC is used for the transmission of control information
messages between the DLUB and the line/trunk groups (LTG).

Here channel 16 on the first PDC tranmits the control information messages for the 60
user channels to PDC 0 and 1 , and channel 16 on the third PDC the control information
messages for the user channels to PDC 2 and 3.

For the local DLU interface, channel 32 on both 4096-kbps connections is used for CCS.

• High reliability

High reliability is yielded by :

the connection of the DLUB to two LTG

The doubling of DLU units with central functions

constant self testing

3.3 Central Functional Units of the DLU

• Control unit for DLU (DLUC)

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

The control unit for DLU (DLUC) controls the DLU internal functional sequence and
distributes or concentrates the signaling from and to the subscriber line circuits. For
reasons of reliability and to increase the throughput rate, there are two DLUCs in the
DLU. They work independently of each other in load sharing so that the one DLUC takes
on all tasks should other DLUC fail. Every DLUC is responsible for two PDC (60 use
channels, one CCS).

Each DLUC has access to the processors of all subscriber modules and other DLU
functional units via the DLU internal control bus. Present messages are cyclically
requested of the modules; the modules are selected directly for transfer of commands and
data.

• Digital interface units of the DLU (DIUD or DIU:LDID)

The DIUD has two interfaces for connecting two PCM30 primary digital carriers (PDC).
The PDC link the DLU with the LTG. Symmetrical or coaxial lines can be connected.

The DIU:LDID has a 4096 kbps interface for connecting a DLU in local use to the LTG.
The connection ensues via a symmetrical copper line. With the DIU:LDID, the contents of
60 user channels and of one CCS signaling channel are transmitted via a single 4096 kbps
primary digital carrier (instead of two PCM30) primary digital carriers).

The diud gathers the control information message from channel 16 of a PDC and relays it
to the DLUC. In the reverse direction, the control information messages coming from the
DLUC are inserted into channel 16 of the same PDC and then transmitted to the LTG.

With the DIU:LDID, the signaling in channel 32 is transmitted.

Furthermore the DIUD or the DIU:LDID forms the interface between the channels of the
DLU internal 4096 kbps user information network and the channels of the 2 or 4 Mbps
routes to the LTG. The user infromation is distributed to the subscriber line modules
(SLMs) or relayed from them to the LTG via the 4096 kbps bus.

• Test unit (TU)

The TU carries out manual or routine testing of the subscriber lines and subscriber line
circuits. No TU is necessary if exclusive use is made of ILTF (integrated line test
function).

3.4 Subscriber Line Modules

3.4.1 Subscriber Line Module SLMA

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

The standard modules for connecting analog subscribers (SLMA:FPE or ILTF-SLMA

respectively ) have 16 analog subscriber line circuits (SLCA), an SLMCP control unit, and
a duplicated interface to the two control and user information bus systems. They generate
the ringing current and the charge pulses for the analog telephones.

The SLMA with integrated test function for subscriber lines (ILTF = integrated line test
function) replaces the SLMA:FPE and the Test Unit (TU). The functions otherwise
performed by the TU are implemented in the subscriber line circuits (ILTF- SLCA).
Therefore no Test Unit (TU) is needed in cases where exclusive use is made of ILTF-SLM.

The ILTF-SLMA is implemented in two variants :

- SLMA:ITF (without Metallic Test Access)

- SLMA:ITM (with Metallic Test Access)

Special SLMA modules are available for special cases (e.g. connection of subscribers via
pair gain, connection of non-ISDN PBX with direct-inward-dialing). If use is made of
those special SLMA modules or of SLMA:FPE with external ringing generartor, the TU is
still needed.

TIP

ILTF-SLMA may provide the test functions needed by digital ports for appropriate SLMD
types, the so called ILTF-SLMD. Thus an ILTF-SLMA may be used in stead of a Test
Unit.

3.4.2 Subscriber Module SLMD

Testing

The standard module for connecting digital subscribers (SLMD:QFB) has 16 digital
subscriber line circuits (SLCD), a control section, and a duplicated interface to the two
control and use information networks.

ALTTC/EWSD/V13/PKA F12-DLU/1.1.2001
EWSD Digital Line Unit

Depending on the project specific encoding on the digital 2 wire subscriber line, the
module SLMD:TFB can also be used.

TIP

ILTF-SLMA can provide the necessary test functions which otherwise are performed by
the TU. This works for the so called ILTF-SLMD (ILTF = integrated line test function).
Therfore no additional SLMD-modules are necessary for ILTF.

3.5 Stand Alone Service of a DLU

If both control units of a DLU lose their signaling channel to the LTG owing to
transmission faults (failure of the PDC) or LTG failures, a DLU can continue to work in
stand alone service. This feature is as a rule available to all remote DLU. For this the DLU
must be equipped with a stand alone service control module (SASC-E).

This module assumes the control of the call setup between subscribers of the same DLU
when in stand alone service. The through-connection of the voice communication follows
internally in the DLU. Metering does not take place.

If several remote DLU are next to one another, they can be aggregated to a remote control
unit (RCU). Up to 6 remotes DLU are linked to one another for this.

If the individual DLU of an RCU go into stand alone service, calls between subscribers
on different DLU of the RCU are still possible.
