Congratulations on your selection as a 2007 Fellow! One of the important aspects of your Fellowship is periodic compensation for your contributions. In
order for you to receive regular paychecks, you must:
IISME Hours: 10% of your Fellowship time is set aside for IISME business. If you are working a standard, 8-week Fellowship, you have 32 IISME hours. There are
three kinds of IISME Hours, "IISME major meetings", "Community Meetings", and "other IISME Hours."
IISME Major Meetings (10 hours): When you spend part of your workday attending required IISME events: IISME Orientation (4 hours), Midsummer Meeting (4 hours),
or End of Summer Celebration (2 hours), you log these hours under "IISME Orientation" or "Midsummer Meeting" or "End of Summer Celebration." 10 hours of your
Fellowship are set aside for these required activities.
Community Meetings (3 hours): When you spend part of your workday attending required Community Group meetings, you log these hours under "Community
Meetings".
Other IISME Hours (your total IISME Hours minus 13 hours): When you spend part of your workday traveling to/from required IISME events (only record time above
normal commute time), meeting with your Peer Coach, developing your ETP, or on activities other than those described above, you log these hours under "other IISME
Hours". If you are working a standard, 8-week (320 hours) Fellowship, you have 19 "other IISME hours".
If you encounter further terms you do not understand, please refer to the Glossary or Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) sections.
Note: Fellow is expected to work a regular 8-hour work day and 40-hour work week, without working any hours on the 7th consecutive day in the workweek.
Overtime work must be approved in advance in writing by Mentor and by IISME.
10% of the Fellow's time is for conducting IISME business (meetings, events, etc.) For a standard 8-week Fellowship this amounts to 32 hours over the course of the
8-weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I work overtime?
A: No overtime is allowed unless a Fellow has prior written approval from both IISME and the Mentor.
Q: How does IISME reimburse for extra travel expenses to/from IISME required events?
A: Please read your IISME Summer Fellow Employee Handbook for details.
Q: Can I get paid to attend optional tours arranged by my Peer Coach or Community Group?
A: Yes, if you have extra IISME Hours, you can log the time under "other IISME Hours". Be sure you have enough "other IISME Hours" left for any extra travel time
to/from IISME required events and for meetings with your Peer Coach before you use those hours for optional tours. If your Mentor gives you prior written approval to
use "Sponsor Hours" for these optional tours, then you may log those hours under "Sponsor Hours".
Q: My Sponsor does not pay for July 4th. Can I work on my ETP and log "other IISME Hours" on July 4th?
A: Yes, you may log "other IISME Hours" anytime as long as you saved enough for: extra travel time to/from future IISME required events or meetings with your
Peer Coach, AND you do not violate any of the overtime rules.
Q: Why did I get an error message when I tried to fill out my timesheet?
A: There are many kinds of errors you can make when filling out a timesheet. A list of possible reasons follows.

Spreadsheet: The computer equivalent of a paper ledger. It consists of a grid made from columns and rows. It is an environment that can make number manipulation
easy and somewhat painless.
Tab: The small labels at the bottom of the window, similar to tabs on a rolodex, that allow you to change which worksheet you are looking at. To see a different
worksheet, click on the tab containing the name of that sheet. The tab for this sheet reads "Glossary".
Workbook: An entire Excel file, made up of one or more worksheets. Along the bottom of this window is a list of tabs, each corresponding to one worksheet within this
workbook
Worksheet: The Excel name for a spreadsheet. Individual spreadsheets reside within a workbook. If you look at the bottom of the screen you will see several tabs.
Each of these marks a separate worksheet. This particular worksheet tab is labeled, "Glossary." Each pay period for your Summer Fellowship is logged on a separate
worksheet.
