CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION (CNE) IN MODERN NURSING

1. PREAMBLE Nursing is a scientifically rigorous discipline, which requires the updated information on a regular basis to ensure best possible care is provided to patients. The technological advancements has made the job of a nurse to evolve continuously. In the past few years, several changes has been made in the methods of providing treatment, surgical procedures, and even the medications prescribed. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every nurse to remain updated with the ongoing changes as they will affect her patients. Hence Continuing Nursing ducation is a felt need to update the !nowledge of all category of nurses. Imparting new !nowledge and s!ills in nursing to the professionals in a systematic manner is possible only through Continuing Nursing ducation "rogramme 2. DURATION OF CONTINUNING NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAMME : Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council will give Credit hours to the registered Nurse$s as per the guidelines which is in e%istence at specific time. & Nurse'#idwife'&N#'(H) should participate in professional CN $* as part of Continuing Nursing ducation "rograms and should earn +, hours per year up to -., hours over a period of every . years. It should be spread over five years and it is proposed that a minimum of +,hrs and ma%imum of /,hrs in a year should be covered as CN . 3. 4. ORGANISATIONS TO BE ACCREDITED FOR CNE i) 3egistered "rofessional bodies ' &ssociations 1TN&I0 ii) CN ' 4or!shop ' training propgramme conducted by 5overnment. iii) 5overnment '6.5.C. recogni7ed 6niversity. iv) Central 5overnment 8 *tate 5overnment Hospitals 1including 9istricts Hospitals0 and training centres in health field including #inistry of Health and :4, 9efense, 3ailways v) &ny other approved organi7ation'association'Institution at the discretion of the Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council 5. GUIDELINES FOR CNE ACCREDITATION a0 The power to award &ccreditation ' Credit hours will be the sole discretion of the Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council. b0 The Credit hours will be awarded by Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council depending upon the subject matter, status of the spea!er, quality of the papers to be presented in the CN ' Conference. c0 &ny &ssociations'2rgani7ation'Institute want to hold CN , should apply for accreditation to the Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council. The council after verifying the credentials of the organi7ation will give certificate of accreditation. d0 The &ssociation ' 2rgani7ation '&ll 5ovt. #edical Colleges' 5ovt. Hospitals' 2rgani7ing *ecretary will apply to the Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council on a stipulated &pplication :orm. The application should be accompanied by the names 8 designation of the spea!ers along with their subject of speech, 8 the duration of the tal!. e0 2rdinarily the duration of CN should be more than ; hours. f0 #inimum one credit hour will be granted to each CN minimum two hours. of

g0 &ssociation ' 2rgani7ation should strictly issue the certificate to the delegate who has attended the CN . The certificate should be distributed only on the last day. h0 &ssociations ' 2rgani7ations ' 2rgani7ing *ecretary will be duty bound to send the feedbac! of the delegates and the list of the delegates who have attended the CN ' Conference along with the C9 of the CN . & separate list of the delegates belonging to state of Tamilnadu and delegates of the other states be submitted to the Council. i0 In case it is found that the certificate is false, then the issuing &ssociation ' 2rgani7ation will be debarred for future accreditation. j0 &fter the programme, a short report of the programme, with the e%act time schedule of speeches and a list of participants who have attended the same with the mention of their Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council registration number, CN credit hours and their signature should reach the 3egistrar, Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council within ten days. & specimen copy of the certificate issued by the 2rgani7ers should also be enclosed. The 2rgani7ing *ecretary will be responsible for the authenticity of the data which will be counter<chec!ed at the time of renewal of registration. k) Limitation

Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council may depute one representative to attend the CN $s as an 2bserver. The observer deputed by Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council will be treated as ?Invited 3egistered Hon., 9elegate@ and should issue a certificate of attendance.

2bserver has to maintain highest standards of decorum and have to ensure that the CN is conducted properly as per prescribed norms and there is no false attendance. 2bserver will have to authenticate the attendance sheet, :eedbac! forms 8 *ummary of CN as a gist and has to mail it to TNC office. Observer should close by 11a.m of the first and the same details with RN R! number Council along with the the registration of delegates day of the CNE programme with name of the delegates should be furnished to the report of the CNE Observer.

Observer should give a feed back about the CNE "rogramme in the #aledictory programme.

6. CNE CREDIT HOURS Credit hours to the CN '*tate'National'International Conference'4or!shop organi7ed will be credited on the basis of the quality of subject matter and the status of the spea!ers delivering the lecture during the CN . a0 :or each CN '*tate'National'International Conference' 4or!shop will be awarded minimum credit hours as per the schedule of the conference for participation. 1-credit point A Bhours0 Half day CN 2ne day conference Two day conference Three day conference B credit points ; credit points C credit points -B credit points

Nurses claiming the credit hours will be required to submit the Certificate of attendance. b) The nurses may attend the International C.N. .$s'Conference held overseas as a delegate. 2n the production of the certificates of

attendance, CN credit hours will be given on the same pattern as for National Conference. c) &ny paper published in inde%ed state'national'international journal will entitle the author'co<author CN credit hours. d) &ny chapter published in a te%t boo! or update boo! published by professional bodies will entitle the author'co<authors for credit hours. e) *pea!ers'Chairman'Co<chairman'#oderator at any Conference'CN '4or!shop ' Training programme will be given two credit hour per talk in addition to the credit hours allotted for that particular academic activity, Organi$er of the CNE Conference workshop will be awarded % & credit points f) "aper presentation 12ral or "oster0 in International Conferences will be awarded ; Credit points, 8 in *tate ' National Conferences will be awarded B Credit points. g) 5uidelines for issuing credit hours for "ublished Nursing te%t boo! Note= Central 8 *tate 5overnment 2rganisation is e%empted to pay the registration fee but has to apply and get CN credit hours.

CN not lin!ed with retirement for all categories and if one has to be active in the profession. Tamilnadu Nurses and #idwives Council will periodically review the norms and may updates them in the interest of patients and Nurses at large. ,(RN2N4= If any institution has been found availing CN credit hours wrongly or misusing it, disciplinary action will be ta!en on the 2rgani7ing *ecretary and also the following B years the institution will be banned of giving credit hours for CN "rogramme.
