Plug in your new cable, Windows will pop up with a screen on the right side stating that new hardware has been found and you need to install the software for it to run properly, If you had use a similar cable on this PC you may need to update the drivers, below you will find the old drivers that may need to be updated.

Install the CD and click on update drivers

You may have to install the driver twice.. its a window issue, but just fallow the directions on the screen if you get another pop up saying that its has found new hardware and that you need to install the software again its normal.

Next will be to configure the UIC for RSLinx this will be used for a 5/00, 5/01, 5/02 and 5/03 via the USB port on your PC, you will need a newer version of RSlinx If you have not done so. Click on the link and download http://www.rockwellautomation.com/support/webupdates/ You will need to register but the download is free RSLinx lite, below you will find the one that I am using 9355WAB100ENE 2.54.00 General Release

Open RSLinx and add DH485 UIC devices

Find your USB port that your PC is using, you can do this by clicking on your Windows Start then Control Panel, now open the System folder and open the hardware tab, click on Device manager and scroll down to Ports (COM & LPT) and click the + sign mine shows up as USB Serial Port (Com 8) yours may be the same or NOT. If you unplug your cable and plug it into a different port on your PC you may get another number so use the same port when possible or fallow the above to find our what port your adapter is assigned

Below you will find the setup for the RS232 side of the adapter PLEASE NOTE THAT THE AUTO CONFIGURE WILL NOT WORK (same as the 1747UIC from Allen Bradley) Stop the UIC and add a RS232- DF1 driver, you will also need to move the switch on the side of the cable adapter from DH to RS232
